Santa Muerte, although tied to hispanic and Mexican cultures, can truly be worked with by anyone. She is venerated as a folk saint by catholics, but she is also very much seen as a death deity, a goddess of the afterlife, and a psychopomp. She has ties to the Aztec underworld, necromancy, and has a myriad of aspects, appearing in different colored robes. Like Hecate, She has 3 main images, The Red Robe. The Black Robe, and The White robe. She is a motherly underworld goddess.

wowzers! when you talked about being trained by Hel to transverse what you’ve been through this last year and how you’ve been to that Bottom; how when you fall in love again it’ll be with someone who has likewise been there; tears sprang to my eyes - i feel like i know exactly what you mean - that recognition - even though what i’ve gone through (and the Legion that has carried me, held me, loved me through it all) has been completely different, your words resonated so deeply - thank you for sharing that which electrifies

I work with La Santa Muerte and actually had a lot of concerns myself about becoming a devotee when she first called me because my cultural and religious backgrounds were so different. I actually consider myself to be a Celtic pagan, but that really didn't seem to matter to her. I was very careful about starting my work with her and actively looked for others who work with her to ask if it was even appropriate, but what I always hear is that she's death, she comes for us all in the end and that makes anyone worthy to become her devotee regardless of cultural or religious background. She will show you how she wants you to work with her. On a side note, she has to have her own separate altar and it has to be above any other altar in your home or she'll get very offended and she'll make it very obvious that she's not happy until you fix it and apologize! It's because she's death, death comes for us all and will remain even after all else is gone.

39:00 funnily enough Santa Muerte is prayed to by prisoners and drug traffickers etc also to help them to get through their time in prison etc so that’s like the female equivalent of him and you’ve also been drawn to her! I love Santa Muerte! ❤ I’ve read a few books on her and she’s just amazing and so lovely! ❤❤❤

Good to know that I'm not the only weird witch, who likes to mix pantheons like crazy. My matron goddess of 20 years is Hekate(I made a ritual to find out which deity wanted to work with me and she showed up), and she wanted me to do more actual witchcraft instead of deity work, so she withdrew from me. But I didn't get it, so I tried to connect with different deitys, because I didn't want to be without matron/patron. But every time I thought I found one (Lilith, Arianrhod, Sekhmet, Hathor, Anubis, Artemis, Aphrodite, Frau Holle, Freya, Frey, Loki - also thinking of maybe connecting with Hel 😉 - or even started with "Lightwork" and connecting with Angels and ascended masters (Michael, Gabriel, Azrael, Lady Nada, Lady Portia), Hekate came back in my life, like with a raised eyebrow. 😂 But especially when I started with witchcraft I was very much anti-christian, although I didn't had bad experiences with the church in this lifetime (except what stands in the bible). I find it also interesting that I mostly wanted to work with celtic deities at the beginning, but that was probably because of the literature available in the 90's, and because I loved the Avalon trilogie. So I was hoping to be able to visit glastonbury, stonehenge or the pyramids and carnak while there are so many barrows all around where I live - and also a former viking village nearby. But as the granddaughter of a Waffen-SS Guy it didn't felt right to connect with nordic deities or work with runes, although I always loved Freya and Hel. Just recently I wanted to work with the Vanir deities, but wasn't sure about it if it was okay as a german to work with scandinavian gods. I started anyway and a little later I made a dna test out of curiosity, and it came out that i wasn't even "stealing culture". As all deities I was ever interested in came from areas in my dna. (Except for egypt deities, but I'm also slightly jewish🤔) Also, I'm totally with you according Kurt Cobain, except I don't have anything around me that would remind me of him (writing this today is weird), because it's would make me just too sad. But as I heard Smells like teen spirit for the first time when I was 10 and was stunned that music that great existed, listened to Nirvana all the time since I was 11, was planning to go to a Nirvana concert when I was 12 and before I turned 13 I knew that this was impossible to happen, it's probably logical that it had a huge effect on me. Looking back it was probably more traumatizing than I realized at the time (not that I wouldn't already have been traumatized a lot at that point). I think he kinda protected me for a while after "it" happened for some reason, or at least he helped me somehow that some bullying stopped. And yes, I did some completely unprotected glass moving when I was 14, and stopped immediatly, after the glass moved into the direction of R after K and U. 😂 One thing more, I got his Journals at some point, although I didn't wanted to at first. And when I glanced over, I almost had a heart attack or so because it was as if I was looking at my english homework or something from my teen years. The handwriting was like 99 % identical. But I thought, maybe it's just in my head, wishful thinking or whatever. So I showed it to my mum without telling her what she was looking at and she thought it was something I made, because the way something was crossed out was the same way I did it - what I didn't noticed, maybe because it is so normal for me. Before this is getting any longer, I just started to read and working with your book and I love it! Very inspiring! 🙋🏻‍♀️

Hinduism isn't a machine, it's an incredibly diverse Pick-n-Mix in a giant tub labelled 'Brahman'. Everyone is drawn to different deities and scriptures, you only need to invest in the ones that appeal to you. Some people don't work with any deities at all, they just focus on the formless Brahman and the Upanishads. Everyone's path and practices are unique to them. If you do feel called to work with Kali and Shiva, you should go with it. These Beings come to us because They want to connect. They know They can enrich our lives beyond our wildest imagination. At the end of the day what they care about is our intention, respect and humility, not how well we pronounce mantras or the amount of lore we've crammed. 🌞

I work with Bast more closely than any other deities right now! I definitely also had that very early connection from learning about Egypt when quite young; even though I was Christian at the time, I still found Her fascinating and felt a nearly irresistible pull to learn more about Her. She's been incredible to work with and learn from, and even long before getting to a point of being willing to work with a deity (Christianity scarred me in some ways) I had wound up with several different statuettes and images of Her; *not a single one of which I've purchased for myself.* They've all been gifts. She had definitely decided "I want this one, when she's ready for me" and then I eventually heeded that call.
@DarthRayj
@DarthRayj Жыл бұрын
Side note, I don't have a dedicated altar space for Her, I just have images and items around my living space that carry Her presence. I think that's a good way of working with Her, so in some sense, you may be working with Her already. I'll sometimes offer Her a little piece of fruit or something, but aside from my active communication with Her, I don't do much else myself. I've had some dreams and other experiences, but I count that within communication; She's pretty laid-back when it comes to what She wants for you to fall under Her protection. She does have Her eyes over you, but will keep the current distance unless you decide to invite Her closer.

I would really appreciate a video about Leviathan, and demons in general. How do you approach and work with them and do you feel a need to be overly spiritually protective when working with them? If you are ok with talking about that? I am interested in working with demons, and I have a very new relationship budding with Lilith. I would love to go deeper but there is that lil bit of "I'm going to hell" fear, just from residual Christianity in me...also I too adore(d) and have a flirtation with Bast and Athena since young! Love them girls, revere them to this day!

girlfriend yassss 🙌🙌🙌✨✨ I feel this, I hear you. First of All thank you 🙏 for being you! Truly means a lot to see and hear someone being authentically honest with themselves ❤ much Love ❤️ thank you You have mentioned quite a few people that have sincerely impacted and made quite the impression in my journey. Joan of Arc… wow I found her/ more like she found me during my adolescent years I maybe was 14-15, in a deep depression a dark place and I was moved by her story her courage really lifted me out a mud puddle. I have a deep respect and admiration for her. omg Henry’s Wives I feel the same. I feel that , especially Catherine of Aragon , I believe I have a special affinity for her in particular due to my Spanish heritage and can relate to a lot of the religious and cultural background there. Anne Boleyn, all of them , I have always been very fascinated with their lives and their stories. Virginia Woolf ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Big time Love 🙌🙌🙌 💯 most definitely My wife is a huge Sylvia Plath fan Big time! ❤❤❤ That is her jam!!! We have a special place on our bookshelf for her. She is also a huge Frida fan. Which is interesting as I have always been intrigued by her and am now reading more into her life as she keeps showing up More and more, very timely at this point in my life. Beautiful and a blessing. Along with Woolf she is wow she does it for me big time. I’ve always felt drawn to the Brontë sisters, and have found myself praying and lighting candles for them. I also enjoy Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne and H G Wells. Simone de Beauvoir ❤❤❤ Rosa Parks and other Bad ass women, Women’s Suffrage Movement. Billie Holiday. ❤ This takes me back to my adolescent years my beauties and I growing up would listen to her in reverence and romanticize and paint a picture of us in that jazz bar listen to her ❤ absolute pleasure listening to her. Ella Fitzgerald is a love ❤️ I was just watching a documentary on her the other day. I have mad respect for her. Some others that have always had a special place in my journey is indeed Kurt Cobain. I have had his poetry and pictures on my walls all through teen years and still have a picture of him I carry and an OG picture of Nirvana Nevermind years. I was just thinking about them today , and also reminded this was one of the first cassette tapes I ever owned, given to me by a dear friend. I had a unplugged tshirt with a pic of Kurt in his green sweater with, “the sun is gone, but I have a light. “ I treasure this. It was one of the first band shirts I worked for over summer as a kid to buy for myself. This imagery and Kurt really influenced and carried me through he was as an artist and person. Some others on my altar space. Dedication are RJD Ronnie James Dio, Lemmy 🤘🏽🤘🏽 Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jerry Garcia, David Bowie and Sid Vicious. I too honor special birth days anniversary days. Celebrating their life and legacy and their meaning in mine. My wife also has a love in our home and Vinyl for Nick Drake , John Lennon and George Harrison ❤ Some other artists I admire and honor in my space are Bosch- Hieronymus Bosch, Van Gogh and Salvador Dali ❤

I loved this Kelly-Ann. So much food for thought here... It's amazing to think back to childhood - I remember so vividly learning about Medusa and she was sooooo villanised in school by teachers and the kids - of course the full tale wasn't told! I remember Persephone always being a figure I was drawn to as well; and Hekate, though I found her frightening then, because of the teachings. And I also became fascinated with the Egyptians. I had reoccurring dreams throughout my childhood about being a particular person in Egypt and being tortured - it was very strange. But Isis was the goddess who stuck with me from that time. Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene too, having been raised in COE schools. The teaching always focused on Jesus though. Interestingly enough - all of these deities are always around and still part of my practice now; even in the smallest ways; perhaps they come and go and check in; its not like I even ask for their assistance, they just come when I may need support. They are there like pillars. The main deities I connect with are The Morrigan and Lilith. The Morrigan, I've been working with for about 5 years now; just after my son was born; but so often The Morrigan will disappear and thats frequently been when Hekate or Mother Mary might appear again. The Morrigan is like 'okay, yup this is a problem. so sort it out, figure out the answer and let me know when you know!' and then disappears, but Hekate feels firm and stern in a similar way, but she won't just leave to let me get on with it alone, there will be check ins, whether or not I ask for them. And Lilith has been coming through for about a year and a half or so and is way more persistent that I expected at first; its been a lot of shadow work and healing work especially in the womb and heart space. It's a wild ride for sure. In a way, I'm thinking that I shouldn't say those longterm deities who are always there are not my main deities, because it feels a bit rude to them, but I never want to feel or sound like I'm pic'n'mixing dieties, because it's way more sacred than that; and the hours of reading and devotion etc. I think more of what it is is that the relationships are just so different with each deity and there isn't a comparison. 🙏So much love and blessings 💜

The Kurt Cobain thing is really cool to hear about, because I grew up in the small coastal town he was from. He's absolutely a local legend, there's a statue of him and everything. I've never really listened to the music, but he has such a presence there that everyone is just tuned in on him and his life, even the generations like myself that were too young to even remember when he was around. Also I agree with you about the whole humanizing thing, in fact the thing I love so much about polytheism is that it's generally very humanizing of all deities (not even to mention the fact that many may be based on actual people that lived at one point, who knows). Gods and goddesses to me are fundamentally human, but to the extent of divine, and that's how we essentially relate to them.

Having had religion shoved at me from every direction growing up in the Bible belt of southern US, I never thought in a million years that working with any dieties, gods, or goddesses would appeal to me when beginning my spiritual/witchcraft journey. Then, during a meditation, I had a vision. I googled what I had seen, and Bast kept coming up over and over. I now work with her during some of my workings, always keep her likeness visible, and thank her with offerings for presenting herself to me in the way that she did. It's beautiful. Now I keep seeing Isis and Kali. So they are next to research and invite into my home and workings. It's a beautiful thing when a diety chooses you to work with them. I also keep seeing the oracle of delphi over and over...constantly for the past several years. I don't how or what I'm supposed to be looking for in regards to that information, but it's continuous. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. Haha! Edited to mention Freya. She keeps popping up occasionally in a "take me or leave me" kind of way, which is absolutely intriguing. So obviously a deep dive into her will also be happening as well. Isn't it marvelous when they speak to you with no provocation on your part? I've grown to find this absolutely fascinating, it it strengthens my relationship with "god", source, the divine, the creator, the ALL, the universe....whatever you choose to call it, that I wanted NO part of growing up with churches on every corner and a mother who made sure we tried them all. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I encountered a story about gods but it's not actual panteon, they're all fictiobnal, but I am soooo drawn to one of them! So many times I've catched myself on a thought, yeah, that's the kind of deity I'd want to be my patron. I know characters like that, especially, popular ones can make strong egregor. But as far as know egregor doesn't equal deity. So like it would be really nice to hear your thoughts about this. Thank you!

@@kelly-annmaddox I usually work with wiccan god and goddess, Hermes and Venus. I also have few peculiar stories of deities hopping on and off, sometimes seeming for no reason at all. But, just a few month before the war started (I'm from Ukraine) I had the brightest dream of Athena, like so bright and clear and full of sunshine, so I'm 100% sure this lady is on our side 🥰 Also I recently started getting thoughts about Hell, though I don't really even know anything about her, but since it's coming I guess I need to start doing my studies 😅

Great video and so interesting. I was raised Catholic so Jesus and Mother Mary were first. But as soon as I grade 6 witchcraft was available to me via encyclopaedias and by the time I hit Highschool the internet led me down a rabbit hole. Hel was the first goddess I was interested in but I feel I was too young to work with her (I was 14-15).

@Kelly-Ann Maddox - I am just starting my magical/spiritual/occult journey and I have a question for you Kelly-Ann. I noticed that you are queer (43:43), as were Crowley (bisexual), Bishop Ledbetter (Theosophist), David Conway & Phil Hine to name those that I know of. I'm a hetero man. Am I at a disadvantage for being so? Would my journey have been easier if I were queer? Also, have you looked at Ishtar/Innana for inspiration?
@kelly-annmaddox
@kelly-annmaddox Жыл бұрын
Hi there. 👋 No, straight people are defo not at any disadvantage. I think you happen to find a lot of queer people in magick because subversive/atypical ways of thinking, living and loving tend to find each other and mesh together. One's instinct when they are different is to go in search of what is different; you look for the stuff on the edges when you're already living on those edges, and queer people in previous generations were more sidelined than they are now in many cultures. Straight magicians are all over the place. They just don't mention it, since being straight is the default, so the conversation never comes up and they don't see fit to highlight it, you know? Ishtar/Inanna is a great myth but not one I have personally connected with much yet.

People need inspirational figures - and every person has a unique signature IMO. Tapping in to a part of that persona/energy allows you to bring that energy through your own energy signature (if that make sense). A soul recognition maybe….

Mine were : Gaia, Aphrodite, Prometheus, Nemesis, Hestia, Athena. The way I praticed that at the time was more close to hellenism, so I had two different altars. The altar for the olympians where Hestia, Athena and Aphrodite statues were. And the altar to cthonica where Nemesis, Gaia and Prometheus were. Nowdays I'm in a different path, one that doesn't require much work with deities at all and not much rituals either. Mostly chaos magik I'd say.

Oscar Wilde. He was the first and probably most lasting figure who hit me the way you describe. From an English teacher at school first introduced him to us. He wrote brilliantly in every mode. Genius doesn't cover it. His life and work have fascinated me. When I went to his grave it was a pilgrimage. And to L'Hotel where he lived his last days and died. And the house he was born in Dublin. And his mum Speranza's house in Merrion Square. And and... I love being able to pilgrimage to the places these great artists lived. It's absolutely humanising. Anyway, thank you for another fascinating video.

I would love hear more about your experience with Tyr I connect with ravens I have 5. So I would thought Odin the all father. Because I love learning and knowledge or Floki the raven god.

I loved this video so much! Thank you for sharing all of this, and especially thank you for emphasizing that it's possible to have many connections that are just there, not necessarily active or needing anything from us at the moment. I tend to get anxious about who may be coming back or who may be wanting attention, and this was a helpful reminder that it's okay to just relax and let it all happen organically--or not, as the case may be. Odin has been my patron for twenty years, but he comes and goes--which is his nature, but it took me the longest time to accept! The deity I'm working with most actively right now is Poseidon (for a little over a year) and the first one I ever made contact with was Isis (when I was a small child--and she became strongly merged with the Virgin Mary for me in my teens). Others I've had in my orbit but who are not exactly active are Aphrodite, Hekate, Santa Muerte, and Lucifer. Oh, and for humans, the mighty dead, I've loved Cleopatra since I was about five, and in my thirties I became very enamored of Anne Boleyn--but Katherine of Aragon and the other wives of Henry VIII have been growing on me since then; I did a little squee when you mentioned them! Oh, and Eleanor of Aquitaine; what an amazing person she was!
