My rite of passage is a relationship with someone after 5 years divorced. Part of this lesson made me see how much I depend on others for validation. I hope to live chat someday with Kelly Anne (it’s on my bucket list). She’s been an inspiration.

I can’t visualize anything in my minds eye, it’s just darkness. Just as you described, the void. But I do have vivid dreams. It’s very confusing and frustrating. Thank you for addressing this.

Thaaaank you. It was only in the last year or so that I realized that when people said to picture something they meant they could actually see it. I really like these ways to reframe, because I really cannot see a darn thing in my head.

Hail Mary! Full of Grace - Wouldn't you know I'd find this video right after booking a Mother Mary Reading with you. Loved going on this trip with you here. You are so . . . real to me. Loved your response to the "comment" that disappeared. So many questions answered here, not just to that, but in general regarding your connection to Mary. Didn't I just mention I have started reading "The Way of the Rose"? I am looking forward to talking in a couple of weeks. Until then, thank you for being.

I've been waiting for this video, as you mentioned maybe doing it a while ago! Yay!! Some of my best meditation experiences are imagining of sensations. My favorite is laying in savasana and feeling myself floating on the water of a hidden pond in a forest. Feeling the rippling pond holding me up, and feeling the sun on my face. But I think I will always be missing the astral.

Hi Kelly-Ann loving all the groovy witchy stuff from the years, thank you! I have aphantasia and most of my mentors would say "fake it till you make it". That always frustrated me and was made to feel less than. When I started my apprenticeship in 2008, I was capable of creating multistory structures with different rooms depending on what type of craft I was using. Then it left me, my conscious minds-eye nothing. I have an inkling that this might be caused by a 1.5-year relationship with Prozac during that period (2014-2015). I have been having, over several years, mad vivid dreams at night where I can, at times, change colors or move from to room. Go figure. Thoughts?

The algorithm gods were smiling on me today when your video popped into my feed. I have this (so does my partner) so we didn’t realise that other people can visualise. It’s brilliant finding your channel and video, especially as I am just starting on my journey into discovering the craft. I loved the video game tip. I’ve played Warcraft for many years and it has a wide variety of environments that I am very familiar with.

ive always struggled with maladaptive daydreaming (daydreaming so much it gets in the way of your own life) so visualizations didn't really work because i am just used to "see" in mind so much, i will keep all of this in mind ty so much, i especially liked the recalling of the senses and touching objects

You are the first non-psychiatrist without aphantasia I've seen that has deep insight into how we process thoughts and how we use imagination without any images. This was so validating as many of your strategies are exactly what I've developed to achieve goals that visualization is intended for. And as a gamer I was thrilled to hear you talk about using gaming for magick and ritual because I've had so much good results and interesting insights from using gaming in that way. For people with aphantasia, I highly recommend The Sims or a virtual reality site like Second Life. Minecraft is also very good for setting up ritual if you don't mind the pixelated graphics. One thing I wonder, is should I give up the idea of ever seeing things like fairies, ghosts, spirits and such? I sometimes think maybe these beings use the visual imaginative facility to make their appearances, and if that is the case, I lack the brain structure to do this and thus will never see them. I'm fine with that, there are other ways to communicate and interact with them, but I'd like to know if trying to see them is basically me throwing myself against a brick wall sort of thing. Have any of your students with aphantasia ever reported actually seeing non-physical entities (outside of dreams)?

Oh dang. how could I make it to 50 years old having Aphantasia but not knowing it was a thing or what it was called? Well timed, I just learned about this in therapy this week. I just thought I really sucked at visualization all these years. I've always fallen back on my other senses thinking I was just weird. I can't see an apple in my head, but ask me to smell one? I can bring that up no problem. I can imagine sounds/music. Images are a nope! Thank you for this, I always just figured my brain was just weirder than usual. So glad to know this is a thing, other people have this, and that there's a name for it!

Wow! I’m so grateful to you for sharing such helpful content. If I commented on every aspect of this video I want to comment on , this would be too long. I’m in the fairly patchy category and cannot hold images long nor are they vibrant. I had no idea that my deficits were really a thing until I was diagnosed as autistic a few years ago in my late 40s. Since I’ve learned more, I realized my brain is wired differently, but I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome in my practice because I’d never be able to truly open my third eye if I can’t really “see” well in my mind. At the end of the video when you were talking about your client who thought they’d never be able to astral travel ( same), when you were giving your advice the question popped in my head to myself- would I ever tell a blind person they couldn’t be a witch because they can’t see? Of course not, so why do I tell that to myself because I can’t “see” in my mind’s eye. This was very validating and so useful that I saved it to both my Re-watch for journaling and Magick Tips and tricks play lists. You’re a wonderful content creator, witch, teacher, and human ❤

This feels like it would also apply to people who were born blind. I saw a short the other day from a blind creator who was having an argument with her bf over the size of squirrels and was asking the followers to give her an ho est answer because she really thought her whole life that they were the size of housecats and he told her they were much smaller.

Thank you for this. I never thought I had aphantasia because I can visualize memories like I'm watching a movie. However, if I'm supposed to visualize a ball, I'll see red and quick flashes of a red ball, but it never lasts longer than a few seconds. Thanks for this, I'm glad to know I have aphantasia. Over the years, I've adjusted my witchcraft to work for me. Many of my "Imagine a safe space" or specific places in nature are memories from my childhood. If I have to manifest something new, I'll try to visualize it, but instead, I focus on my senses and will write a script to read over to immerse myself in that reality over trying to imagine myself on vacation somewhere I've never been. It's worked for me. I was always told to cast, you need to visualize and make it real with all of your senses. While I struggled to see these images longer than a few seconds, my spells and manifestations have consistently worked, so I just assumed that's how everyone visualized. 😅

Video games are a blessing for the modern world of magick. Mostly when games are about manipulating elements, powers, including rivers, forest (Zelda, Kingdom Hearts....) All that feeds our own paracosm and that can be tapped into for your practice.

I can visualize decently, especially when I'm reading. However, I have an energy limiting chronic illness. With that, mental exertion can be just as draining and debilitating as physical exertion. Visualizing and meditating are forms of mental exertion. I've found both to be particularly energy draining for me, and they flare my chronic illness symptoms, sometimes quite badly. So even though I can decently visualize, I've opted out of classes and practices that focus on visualization and meditation because they can be so debilitating for me. I really resonate with what you said about announcing your process out loud. I just read about some alternatives to visualization in the book Chronically Magickal. Speaking out loud was one of the techniques they recommended too. Instead of trying to visualize it, say it. Say what you're doing or wanting to do. It talks about speaking out loud the steps of a spell or ritual even. They call it Incantation Magick. The book also talked about Petition Magick, and particularly written Petition Magick. So, as you mentioned, writing out the spell or magick or magickal petition, rather than trying to visualize it in your mind's eye. So instead of visualizing for a candle spell, writing out the words before or while the candle is burning. Thank you for address this issue. The assumption that all people can or can easily visualize is an issue I've dealt with personally due to my chronic illness issues, though not in quite the same way as someone with aphantasia. It's so nice to hear someone speaking of more inclusive options.

I am an artist with aphantasia and many of these strategies are going to be really useful to me - I also rely heavily on reference materials and keep a scrap book of images that I access almost every day, and especially when I go into the Astral, I use recall of the images to construct my space and altar - the image boards are such a great idea!

I feel so seen and encouraged right now. I'm ND and in the ND specific witchy fb group I'm in people talk about not being able to visualize at all, but I don't see people talking about partial. I can visualize some things as if they are right in front of me if I've seen them before. If I haven't then visualizing is..... foggy? A few years ago I took part in a guided journey to meet Lilith. I did see Her, but the image was shadowy and rather like smoke. Not inappropriate, I suppose. I played around in fictional worlds that interested me as a kid and my mother was very surprised when I mentioned that I didn't actually see much of it, but I got so immersed that she was convinced I did see the characters I was pretending to interact with clearly.

My last major life change was moving from the area of work I had been in for about 9 years for something else in the store. I am doing so much better mentally, but I do have things come up from the past that are uncomfortable. I've worked at this store for 19.5 years and the job I am doing now is similar to what I have done in the past with managers who were frankly abusive.
