The reason why the filter effect on the voice is so overused is because Opeth made it cool for prog-metal bands to use it. Some people call it the Akerfeldt effect because of that, or the telephone effect. Seriously, most of the reason why bands use that effect is because it sounds so good on Ghost Of Perdition.

Yeah, back in the early 2000s, this genre was at the top of its game. They weren't the biggest out there, but they were known IF you were one of the kids who liked Rock music. At that time it was either you liked rock or rap and there was very little crossover.
