Beautiful. When my wife left and took my kids, this song touched my heart. It was like the prayers of agony about my kids that they'll never ever know about. I thought to myself, "Hey you know, this song sounds like something a bloke sang, and not a woman", as I'd heard the Dixie Chicks version (which is still an awesome cover). I must have heard this song originally somewhere. Now I've been away so long that the wind has blown all this mess well away and I am now a stranger. Godspeed indeed. The day I finished paying "alimony" for the unfaithful wife allowance, I prayed that I'd get all those days back with my children...obviously not expecting it, but just letting my Creator know that there is yet another injustice He will deal with to the correct degree. Thanks Tom for posting it. I have a few songs of my own if you want to have a listen too. I suggest "Harder Than I Thought It Was". Also, love you son. You probably don't know it. You were always a well-behaved little gentleman. I hope you maintain it for your life, and when you fall down, just get back up again, as life is too short for staying down.

First time I heard this was one sweet morning about 5 a.m.. Had the boat hooked up and headed to Lake Lanier for some striper fishing. Alone - my partner was at home with our new son. It took me a mile or two before I could find a place to turn around with tears in my eyes. My solo striper fishing came to an end that day. (26 years ago. Now he has an infant daughter).

You are mostly right. He did see his son when he got the chance. This last summer, Radney's son moved back home to Texas to go to school. Radney's got a new DVD out about his latest album where you see him and his son playing guitar together. Really cool.

Love that there is a video to this song! I was in charge of videos at Arista in the 90s and always loved doing Rad vids. Even hired USC film students to do a couple as projects (A Fine Line and Making It Up). See What You Want To See is still my favorite album of any artist. Get it if u don't or haven't heard it!

I've been in touch with the film makers - Pelicula Films. The picture is slightly different to my earlier post. They intend releasing a "best of" for series one and series 2 sometime next year. The current series (series 3) is to be released in it's entirety within the next day or so.

Ikie, thanks. Excellent video. Yeah, I cried. I never had a kid of my own but I once baby-sat a 6-month old "little man." We were alone. I made the "mistake" of looking at his face while he slept in my arms! The little bugger did a number on my MIND! (He was asleep, you see. He didn't DO anything intentionally. But it was kinda mystical, magical or hypnotic! I was "spellbound"! I hope you understand.)
@danno321s12 жыл бұрын
@kaja66: if you hear that ringing from the guitar, it is not in standard tuning. Start by retuning the bass string and go from there; you are looking for a pure chord so only three notes across all six strings.

This is beautiful. Why have I never heard this before? I thought I knew all of Radney's songs. Does anybody know the story behind it? I thought about my little boys and cried, I guess I could cry some more if I knew the story.

Agreed. However there are a ton of artists who have taken songs from Radney and done great with them. Sar Evans and Keith Urban took songs of his to #1 on the charts. Radney, IMO, is the greatest songwriter of this generation.

@milesthepainter -- you can get this song on his CD "And Then There's Me (The Back Porch Sessions)" at his website, radneyfoster . com ... it's where I get all my Rad fixes.

I'm very sorry to hear that from all of you, but actually his son who he wrote this for did not die. What happened was he got divorced and his wife remarried and moved to France, where her new husband was from, along with the son. He never saw his son again afetr that and he was of course very sad and it led him to writing this song
