I saw her open for John Prine and she was a complete unknown to me, when she hit that first note there was a collective shift in the seats of everyone in the theater, it was incredible

Hey man, I hope you're doing well. Just got one of your old videos recommended, and I remembered how it was one of your videos some 15 years ago I first saw that introduced me to music I have not only fallen in love with, but picked up and learned to play. I'm still working on it, but I am the proud owner and player of a beautiful set of Scottish smallpipes in A.

After singing, the tunes they play on whistle are "An Bairille"-which is essentially a form of "The Rocky Road to Dublin" slip jig-followed by "Boc Liath Nan Gobhar", which might just be the Scottish inspiration behind the Donegal jig "The Further in, the Deeper". Very similar structure.

Her songs just dig into your heart and stay there forever. The videos are poetic and priceless. I can see my grandmother walking around that exact kitchen in her 80s.

All of my family and ancestors originated in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and a little Norse thrown in for good measure. I played bagpipes for several years. The last time I played was for my grandma’s funeral. Haven’t played them since.

Ní iarrfainn bó spré le Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Ach Baile Inis Gé is cead éalú ar choinníní. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, A chuisle is a stóirín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Máistir báid mhóir mé a' gabháil ród na Gaillimhe, D'fhliuchfainn naoi bhfód is ní thóigfinn aon fharraige. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Tabhair dom do lámhín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Máistir báid mhóir go deo ní ghlacfad, Nuair a fhaigheann siad an chóir 'sé is dóichí nach bhfanann siad. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Tabhair dom do lámhín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Níl falach i gcabhail ar Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Ach seanchóitín donn gan cabhail gan muinchille. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, Tabhair dom do lámhín, éalaigh is imigh liom. Fear maith i mbád mé togha fear iomraimh, Fear sluaisid' is láí ar dhá cheann an iomaire. Óra a Shadhbh, a Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, A chuisle is a stóirín, éalaigh is imigh liom

Well. It’s been three weeks since the world lost Kris. I’ve got this sadness that won’t leave me. Every morning I wake to the sun rise and play this song. Most people remember where they were when JFK died or on 9/11. I will remember where I was when I heard Kris died. ❤
