Godzilla1998 is really the most underrated monster movie ever. I liked the movie as a kid, still think it is entertaing. It was the first godzilla movie, and monster movie i saw. And think about this; Godzilla1998 was the first modern monster movie. Without, we would not have monster movies like; King kong2005, Colverfield2007, Monsters2010, and even Godzilla2014.

Trace Nivens When I first saw it I really liked it and thought all of the other Godzilla movies were weird like you. That's when I was 10. Then my brain started developing common sense and I realized how much of a shitfest it was. And all of the other movies and the new one started growing on me.

DjBranco 2014 was boring, which I will regrettably admit to watching. Jean Reno was way more enjoyable than Aaron-Taylor Johnson. And the one character that had a chance of blowing away Reno in 2014, was played by Bryan Cranston, whom they completely tossed under the bus.

When they were first announcing that they would make a dark, reality-grounded version of Godzilla in 2014, I was a bit skeptical. I mean isn't that EXACTLY what they did in 1998, and it failed to reach its target audience. Say what you like about the design not being faithful and the campy characters of the 1998 version, but this IS the most realistic version of Godzilla to date. It;s smaller in size, built like a theropod, doesn't have super powers and is not as indestructible. It's just not what the hardcore fans associate with Godzilla. The Monsterverse version is even darker and more sombre, but it's not more realistic. Skyscraper sized cockroaches, pterosaurs the size of 4 football fields, a moth about the same size range and a three-headed emperor Palpatine. Loved those movies, but they are LESS reality-grounded than this one.
