This film is an undeniable achievement on how to make something that garners the true spirit of the original while something more terrifying and powerful in its exploration of the human spirit. 15 million USD is what it costs to make this and we really need to examine how we make movies over here that pale in comparison for 5 or 10x the budget.
@rogerkincaid931

That's US$15 million spent in Japan, equivalent to around ¥2 billion.
@jacobhuff5975

If you’re saying that currency in Japan can be manipulated to turn 15 million dollars into 2 billion Yen I’m not sure why every single person who harbors wealth wouldn’t live and operate in Japan. Give the same amount of money to an American company and they literally couldn’t make even part of a movie, regardless of where they shoot it.
@rogerkincaid931

@@jacobhuff5975 - American productions work differently. And if they happen to shoot overseas, there's additional cost for transport and red tapes. $15 million is an impossible figure for big Hollywood blockbusters.

Just saw it today and it was incredible, the fact that this movie costed $15 MILLION to make is insane, it’s really the exact same budget of an episode of GOT S8 or The Witcher and it literally put those TV shows to shame compared to how better written the characters are in this movie

I saw this last night also and it was awesome! I like how it goes back to the original movies where Godzilla is the villain and the characters are focused more and it gets emotional while having awesome action and carnage that you need to watch in the biggest screen possible. From beginning to end, it was awesome and as someone who has seen the first original films, some moments I couldn’t help but cheer and so did everyone else. It was amazing!

I’m very excited to see this film. As someone who grew up with Godzilla, through child years to now, this is the type of film I have wanted for the last 12 years. I expected the 2014 Godzilla film to be like this. It almost got there at moments, but it definitely struggle with the characters and handling of Godzilla. It was menacing and terrifying, but they kept him an anti-hero esk character. I truly love that TOHO has taken the chance on telling a more dramatic story to celebrate that original film. Similar as to what they did in the 85’, if I’m not wrong. Godzilla should’ve always remained a villian. Granted, i would still love to see Vs films in this universe. With Godzilla teaming up with modern versions of his classic nemesis. Someone like Gigan who hasn’t seen screen time since 2004. If they keep the grounded nature, but dip their toes into those types of monsters, I would get what I have always wanted. It should stay as a World v Godzilla v nemesis. Never an anti-hero style fighter.

Regarding the child, the director said that they had to time the filming to the child. They did alot of ridiculous stuff in order to get the child to display emotions(e.g walking ard the set funny to incite her to laugh, pausing the film whenever she needs to sleep/eat/potty etc.) real genuine stuff. Tldr; no 2-yr-olds were harmed in the filming of -1.0

My Godzilla history is..."Godzilla vs The Thing" was the first movie I watched (under that title) in the franchise & I was around 6 or 7 at the time. The rest is well...history. I was hooked & overall I've always enjoyed monster movies & never outgrown my enjoyment for them. As for "Godzilla: Minus One", it was awesome. The characters are very well written & you really do care about them. The music both old & new is perfectly performed. And yes Godzilla in this movie is truly is terrifying. I'll definitely be seeing it again before it leaves theaters.

Japan spends their money very well. Look at Suzume, which reportedly cost $30 million US to make, or other anime films like the Ghibli films, or this film that only took $15 million US to make. Anime films are 2D and take a little more elbow grease to get right. Compare that to Exp4ndables or Elemental or Wish or Marvels, each about $100+ million. There is definitely a lesson to be learned. Bollywood films don’t take that much to make either.
@NinthShinigami
@NinthShinigami 7 ай бұрын
Fully agree. If I can add, I think the Rurouni Kenshin films are excellent action films as well, and the first took $10 mil to make, Kyoto Inferno and Legend Ends shared $30 mil, so about $15 mil each, and I think the last two shared a $50 mil budget, and a handful of Ghibli films did take about $20-$30 mil to make. Apparently The Boy and The Heron is taking about $45-$50 mil, making it the most expensive Japanese film, and it looks absolutely amazing. Like Suzume, Weathering With You and Your Name took about the same budget to make. Love all three films. Then again at the end of the day, different nations, different objectives and things that require money and attention, plus Marvels had to deal with delays and strikes among all bunch of other things, Japanese work condition ain’t the best soooo idk :P
@askiia8713
@askiia8713 7 ай бұрын
I mean, at the expense of the actual animators and workers? At this point we don't need to talk about how bad the work conditions over there esp for animators are, and this does set a rly nice example on how to manage budget, but shouldn't be an inherently good thing as I'm afraid more companies might squeeze the ever living hell out of these animators even more for less wages if it becomes precedent.

I'm glad everyone's loving it. I personally liked it but wouldn't say I loved it. I really loved the cinematography and visuals a lot. I loved how it focused on human characters and actually provided a solid story for the main characters. My main issues have to do with the pacing of the movie and the acting. I felt it was horribly paced at times where it would focus on things for too long at moments and it felt dragged out to me sometimes. The acting was a little too over the top and too dramatic as well. So I don't think it's as perfect as everyone is feeling, but still a great movie with some issues in my opinion

I wasn't able to catch this in cinemas so I've only just watched it on Netflix and yes its absolutely amazing! I absolutely love the monsterserve films but this movie shows how you can do a Godzilla film with human characters you really care about, especially the main character. I love his redemption in the climax of the film. It almost made me cry with joy seeing him redeem himself so proudly and him find the women alive in the hospital. The story is very real, its very emotional and heavy. The acting was all round fantastic, i thought a few parts were overacted but then again it makes sense with what just happend to the characters. Also i wasn't a fan of how Godzilla moved. He walked very stiff and robotic which makes it a little less believable at times but thats not a major thing. Godzilla was genuinely terrifying in this film. You keep wanting to see him because of how epic he is but you also don't want him to cause of the destruction. The visuals are incredible and the action is phenomenal. The monsterverse is more fun and entertaining but this film is much more of a realistic, well written and terrifying version of a Godzilla film

If you enjoyed this movie you should watch shin Godzilla. That is in my opinion the best Godzilla film, and maybe you could do a review or a mini review if you feel like it.

1954 Godzilla had a much more consistent depressing tone. Minus One definitelty kept alive that horror filled depressing tone but was able to mix in appropriate uplifting and at times humorous moments.

I think this will end up as the best Godzilla film. The one from 1954 is probably the 2nd GOAT. I try getting into Godzilla movies but I never could. He always had me intrigued as a kid. But a lot of his movies are similar to Bond movies. They don't really click with me. It's very niche and I guess I'm not into kaiju. I was thinking about getting this Godzilla Hiya toy that's like $50. It's a revision of the GvK one from 2021 but they corrected his neck. But a part of me really doesn't like the Legendary design. He looks like a stegosaurus standing up. He has a more reptilian head while I prefer his rounder head from Toho over the flat head, flat nose one, and a very short neck. I keep waiting for it to grow on me and it never does. I recently rewatched Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) the other day and it's not a good movie at all as Chris from Film Stocked has said. The story and logic are stupid which is how a lot of Godzilla movies are. Many kung fu films are the same way. The first Godzilla I've ever seen was King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) back when I was 7 in '87-88. That was the film that really got me into loving Godzilla and King Kong. Of course, I did see it before that 2021 film and it hasn't aged well. The American version had Kong winning. The Japanese version had Godzilla winning. I don't care. Watching two guys in a suit looks ridiculous to me now. The 2021 film did the fighting much better thanks to CGI. I'll save the $50 and wait for Hiya to make one for Minus One. There's one from Bandai but I prefer how Hiya does their Godzilla molds and Bandai's 6" one lacks color. Hiya's are well priced and better detailed than the others while still being the most film accurate. I prefer Minus One's head more than Legendary's and his largest dorsal plates looks like shurikens. I do not mind his size being smaller. Minus One is closer to the size of the 1954 one at around 164 feet (50 meters) or so. While Legendary is closer to 400 feet, the largest Godzilla at the time of release in 2014 before Shin Godzilla. I may still get that Hiya GvK Exquisite Basic one if the price is right. May end up getting both (Minus One 🇯🇵 + GvK 🇺🇸). The dorsal plates on the MonsterVerse one does look dope. I prefer Godzilla to be a little slimmer although he always had thick thighs like Chun-Li and the shape of the head to be rounder. Perhaps Legendary looks fat because of his smaller head? I don't like Legendary Godzilla's roar. It's not as iconic as Toho's. It loses that punch. I already lost interest in finishing Monarch. Like should I really care about these human characters? I only care to watch Godzilla destroy shit or other titans. I don't really watch it for emo people with broken lives. But I hear Minus One has human characters I'll care about. I don't like how Legendary designed Kong. He's too brown when I want him black like Mighty Joe Young. Even in Skull Island which is set in the 1970s, I wasn't a fan of his design. I want the Peter Jackson Kong or the one from 1976. The Legendary designs are questionable for me. Some like it as they find it realistic and well proportioned. Some don't like the man in a suit look but Legendary's design is not for me. I guess since Godzilla / Gojira is Japanese, I prefer how the Japanese design him over the Americans. The Legendary design is still way better than Godzilla 1998 (or Zilla) but I feel it could still be much better. I don't really watch Godzilla movies but I read enough comments from diehard fans and watch videos on KZbin where they will rank each Godzilla design. So far, the one I like isn't a common answer. It might be GhidoGoji (1991). It used to be Godzilla 2000 but I came to love the Hensei Era the most. I'm no Godzilla expert either but Hensei from 1984-1995 is what I like the most when it comes to Godzilla's designs. Godzilla Minus One is really a modern remake of the 1954 film. It's paying more homage to that film from 69 years ago. Going back to the roots but with a modern look and not some guy in a rubber suit. I doubt Minus One will ever get me into Godzilla or anything kaiju but at least when I see it, what I'm watching is a good film. Ranking all the Godzilla films I've seen - 1. Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) 2. Godzilla (2014) 3. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) 4. King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) 5. Godzilla (1998) Never seen all of Godzilla 1954 but it seems like a classic film. I'm 25 minutes into it and I'll finish it after I post this comment. GvK 2021 is not as good as Godzilla 2014 but I prefer it more because I'm also a fan of King Kong and Mechagodzilla. I used to have this Mechagodzilla plastic toy where the tail could easily pop out when I was about 6 that I never forgot. Love his appearance in Ready Player One (2018). I was a bigger Godzilla fan over Kong fan before I saw the 2021 film. But by the end of GvK, I was rooting for Kong more! Never seen the original 1933 film but the ones in 1976 and 2005 I did enjoy. And the ending to King Kong Lives (1986) broke my heart as a kid. Kong's films are always more tragic. Beauty killed the beast. King Kong did come first 21 years before Godzilla. I like Godzilla and Kong fairly equally now. Godzilla has the more interesting designs, hence, he's better for toy collecting or ic you love dinosaurs and dragons. But Kong is a giant gorilla with human elements to him. So people can feel for him similar to the apes in the recent Planet of the Apes films dating back to 2011. It's so weird how Godzilla technically beats Kong in the 2021 film only for Mechagodzilla to completely destroy Godzilla when they go at it and needed Kong to help save him. Godzilla can't wield a giant battle axe like Kong. And Kong can be more agile and flexible since he lacks a giant tale and dorsal plates while having long arms and essentially having four hands to grip since his feet act like hands. Many G fans say the 2014 film is the best American Godzilla film and I wouldn't argue with that. And I was initially disappointed by it but came to like it more after a couple more rewatches at home. I still enjoyed Jurassic World (2015l more. I felt Godzilla 2014 was what Jurassic World was supposed to be. I didn't like Gareth Edward's Rogue One initially either. It was slow and too dark for me to care. Dark is in too many night scenes, so I can't see what they're doing. But both Godzilla 2014 and Rogue One did get better with rewatches. Minus One should easily be my #1 after I see it probably by tomorrow. The bar for Godzilla / kaiju niche films isn't very high. Most Godzilla films are basically 80% following human characters, hilarious English dubbing on Japanese actors, and then watching actors in rubber suits fighting or stomping on miniature sets. They're generally disaster films. That's the gist of Godzilla films. That and Godzilla helps sells toys for boys like Hello Kitty does for girls. The pattern I see from Godzilla movies is the ones from 1954, 2014, and 2023 are considered disaster films with the most human elements to them. While every other Godzilla film in between those three act more like a true kaiju film with super campy elements. Watching rubber suits against puppets. Hence, why 1954, 2014, and 2023 are regarded the best as films while the other 31 live action Godzilla films are more niche and are basically 90 to 120 minute commercials to sell new Godzilla toys. We have 37 Godzilla films but 34 live action ones. I'll list only the live action ones and exclude the animated trilogy one... 1. Godzilla (1954) 2. Godzilla Raids Again (1955) 3. King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) 4. Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) 5. Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) 6. Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965) 7. Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) 8. Son of Godzilla (1967) 9. Destroy All Monsters (1968) 10. All Monsters Attack (1969) 11. Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971) 12. Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972) 13. Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973) 14. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) 15. Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975) 16. The Return of Godzilla (1984) 17. Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) 18. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) 19. Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) 20. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993) 21. Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) 22. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) 23. Godzilla (1998) 24. Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999) 25. Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000) 26. Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001) 27. Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002) 28. Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003) 29. Godzilla Final Wars (2004) 30. Godzilla (2014) 31. Shin Godzilla (2016) 32. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) 33. Godzila vs. Kong (2021) 34. Godzilla Minus One (2023) Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire slated to be released by April 2024. Greatest Godzilla movie? Minus One? Favorite Godzilla movie? Minus One? Favorite Godzilla design? Minus One? Minus One being the most likely answer for all three questions. I'm aware Final Wars is a popular pick for Godzilla designs and it's up there for me as a top 3 and I've never even seen the film. But I've seen photos of him. I wish Minus One came out when I was 7. Would've made more of us into diehard Godzilla fans. But we just didn't have the technology back then in the 1980s to make it look good. We still had guys in a rubber suit even with Final Wars in 2004.
