The monsters look amazing, the Godzilla design is my favorite, but I almost cant watch the human scenes, its on par with Godzilla Revenge honestly in that regard, and the screaming child almost made me not want to watch the movie at all back when I first saw the trailers. However the mythology and world building is also the best of all Godzilla timelines, so its in my top10 depending on my mood.

It's always a subjective call with any franchise about what happens to be the best on top and worst at far bottom, and the Godzilla franchise is no exception. Being that the Big Boy was, is and always will be my Top Favorite Character of All Time, I have to say looking at what was ranked according to the fans - and it's always fun even if you have to bitch, moan, snicker out of sheer cynicism or just be taken aback by what emerges - there were a few surprises, but in the whole, this countdown to #1 according to the votes wasn't really that much from what I expected watching this video. We can agree to disagree, but the votes have been cast fair and square, and I can already imagine why even if question the ranking. Glad to see the 1954 original remains at #1, though - I guess no one was ever going to question that. But let's see what happens when the Big Guy turns 75 in 2029!

To be honest, Ebirah, horror of the deep, or Godzilla VS the Sea Monster (on my VHS copy) was my first owned Godzilla movie. And I got into the whole Godzilla franchise via the Hannah-Barbera 70s cartoon and then seeing the English version of the original Gojira. And to be fair, I did not see 98 Godzilla as an actual Godzilla movie, but more of mistaken identity movie. (My opinion on the whole thing.) And naturally, the OG movie that started it all would get 1st place. Who was going to argue with that?

City on the edge of battle made the cardinal sin of not have mechagodzilla in it. Idk why the nano metal city couldn’t have built its own mechagodzilla and the city itself while waiting for a pilot during its like 10-20,000 year wait. I saw final wars in elementary school. My mom took my friend and I to blockbuster to get 1 movie each. Of course I chose final wars. I couldn’t believe there was a movie I hadn’t seen yet. Tracking down the millennium films was such a fun quest. This new wave of movies was simply stunning to me as a child. I always loved final wars.

@Moonpanther The problem is the characters in 1954 were interesting but in DAM they're dogshit. Plus, DAM was supposed to be the final Godzilla movie but it barley focuses on the monsters. Gojira was only the first movie so they could easily fix how much monster action they give Godzilla, but DAM was the 9th film and a rocket gets more screen time than every monster combined.

Growing up Godzilla VS Megalon, Mothra VS Godzilla, Terror of Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla's Revenge were the 4 movies I had from taped TV showings on VHS. Godzilla VS Monster Zero was the 1st tape I actually owned with its own case. Then, while I did end up getting the 98 Godzilla VHS as well, I never liked how it just looked like a giant Iguana instead of Godzilla. Now I'd have to say my favorites are between Final Wars, Shin Godzilla, King of the Monsters, and Godzilla VS Kong. As far as the Original? It was ok, but Shin Godzilla did the same thing better in every way so I wouldn't place it at the top.

On Godzilla's Revenge- I wonder how many saw the dub vs sub. Because the US dubbing for kids at the time was so poor, and the kid comes up as more sympathetic and better in the Japanese version. And of course, taking it as a kid's movie. I personally don't rate it near my bottom- sure, stock footage, but fast paced, multiple fights, reasonably tense scenes with the thieves, and a short runtime makes it pretty light fair. Compare to the movies that end with long dark slogs of fights (looking at Hedorah- the first half might've been trippy, the second was just the worst-lit and one of the longest Godzilla fights which flat-out makes Godzilla win twice), it's much easier to take. At least subtitled! Not the only one who suffers from a bad dub, but a larger gap than most. Also very pleasantly surprised to see Final Wars so high. My top 5 list, in chronological order because ranking favs is hard- Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla Godzilla vs Biollante Godzilla x Mechagodzilla Final Wars Shin Godzilla And for best depictions of King Ghidorah, have you seen Rebirth of Mothra 3? Really good Ghidorah there

Alex youtube channel I have. It’s an interesting take but I don’t necessarily see it, nor do I think it absolves the film of the many problems it has. I found filmento’s analysis of the film to be a bit more compelling, and it genuinely increased my appreciation for the film despite me not being a big fan of it.

Yes, but a lot of people would. For some fans final wars is a top tier movie, like son of Godzilla and hedorah’s whole monster gig. You love it or hate it. Turns out, lots love it. Also, nobody will agree on everything, not good to make fun of people for liking something you don’t. I wouldn’t even make fun of a group of 5 if they all loved Godzilla’s revenge.

Money doesn’t matter when it comes to popularity, you can make lots of money and it still be bad. Look at most illumination movies other than the 1st despicable me and Mario. Those were the only ones with actual care. Yet the others all make lots of money. That means that even bad movies can get money if the movie is advertised well. It depends how people feel on the movie itself. (Also, you could remove Godzilla and he would basically be the same movie so that’s probably why)
