This movie had a lot more green goo than I anticipated.

There's actually a deleted scene that I wish would have not been left out where flowers bloom all over the land after Godzilla first destroys Biollante. He slowly looks around at them and then slowly walks away, almost like he feels sorrow for killing her.

_"Basically, there was some library drama....."_ (picturing Jerome's local library surrounded on all sides by alarmed townsfolk, law enforcement, and a television news crew... with all attention focused on the epic ninja battle, between a misinformed librarian and a determined KZbinr, taking place from within) This movie sounds like my kind of crazy. That final version of Biollante is awesome, and makes me want to check out a film which I would have otherwise dismissed. Bring on the green goo, I say! It also helps that you had me cracking up throughout this review. From body shaming the Big G (and, rightfully so), to your awesome doodles, you have a great sense of humor about these things. Your impression of Audrey II also had me smiling like a loon! *[* For those unaware, Jerome's remark about a hypothetical battle between Godzilla and Audrey II is on point, when one considers the scrapped original ending of 1986's *Little Shop of Horrors* film adaptation: ( *Film Spoilers Ahead* kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYPNd6mZrJuHpbM ) *]* 3:23 - 3:42 _is_ pretty awesome! That's a cute, inspired scene. : )

I think an interesting parallel in this film is that biollante (in a much slower pace) changes/evolves much the same as Shin Godzilla in that at first Biollante is a much smaller size confined to Dr Shiragami's lab, and is strong enough to kill one of Biomajors agents but still has to grow to be able to handle any human aggressors. But then is defeated by Godzilla and must continue to evolve to it's 3rd form and by then is more than a match for Godzilla. And it's also interesting that 3rd form Biollante and 4th form Shin Godzilla are the most nightmarish of Godzilla Kaiju.

Sorry you didn't care for Lt-Colonel Goro Gondo. He's one of my favorite characters in the franchise. I love how nonchalant he is over Godzilla, like he's the one person who's finally taken the hint that monsters rampaging through Japan is just another Tuesday at this point. I'm not an anatomy expert, but I can't help noticing a trend in both Japanese and American Godzilla films: the taller he is, the wider he is, especially his lower half. I think I heard somewhere that that's more realistic since it would be necessary for supporting the extra weight, but it could be wrong.

Hello Jerome. Excellent Review as always. It seems I like this Godzilla Installment better then you do. It seems to me to be the "Shin Godzilla" of the Heisei films. I say this because both movies take Godzilla in an all new direction and tone... and I appreciate that. I also feel "Godziilla Vs Biollante" has much love from G fans and is ranked one of the best Big G movies of all time. I highly enjoy it, but I don't think it would make my top ten Godzilla List. I love your reviews and look forward to more!!!

Easily one of my favorite Godzilla movies. I usually prefer the more serious ones, and this one has the best effects of the series, and by far my favorite Godzilla design. I love the music too, although I agree that it doesn't fit the movie. I didn't really start to like it until I listened to it on its own. Still enjoyed your review!

Jerome , thank you tracking this film down and for your review it was fun . In addition your hilarious !! What an awesome review. I believe your Pokémon Old Godzilla illustration should be submitted for the prestigious 'National Medal of Arts' award that was awesome ! Godzilla vs. Biollante based on your review looks "Wild" . Right down my alley . Love the shot of Godzilla looking through the window ready for a chomp on the cocky , swaggering colonel . I think your going to be fine even if you mislaid your moral compass for that scene. Godzilla vs. Biollante looks like one of those films that is an enthralling campy watch worth taking !! ;-)

Godzilla 84/ 85 is where this series starts for me . In Godzilla vs Biollante people are looking for Godzilla's DNA from the 84/ 85 attack and at the end of that movie Godzilla falls in to the Volcano and in this movie wakes up and leaves same Volcano . this whole series each movie is great and you can watch them by themselves or one right the other .

Hello miss, I’ve been watching your reviews and really enjoying them, I personally grew up watching a few Godzilla films but I only owned 4 or 5 so I rewatched them and never got to witness the great abundance that was out there, and recently I started reconnecting with the films as an adult and I’m loving it, I’ve been buying a few here and there, and there is a whole lot I still need to see, i was wondering if you could give me a top 5 of your must sees! Preferably the Showa Thank you Jerome😀

Thank you! Glad you're liking the videos! And it's always fun to reconnect with stuff you loved as a kid and enjoy it all over again. I'd say the must-sees from the Showa era, aside from the original film, are Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, and Terror of Mechagodzilla. I thought Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster and Godzilla vs. Hedorah (aka Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster) were a lot of fun too. Whoops, that's six. :)

I adored this film. The soundtrack in this movie kicked ass! I think this film has the best Godzilla soundtrack or at least the best version of the original themes. Godzilla looked so good, I really am impressed by the effects for these films. The scene where Godzilla emerges with his theme song, brought a tear to my eye. I loved it.

Miki is a psychic. That's how she can do all those things you listed off. They didn't think you'd need any further explanation other than "she has psychic abilities." Toho asked Ifukube if they could use his music in this film and he told them "You can... as long as you don't turn the pieces into rock tunes." And then they turned his pieces into rock tunes. The tendrils with the mouths on the end of them are part of the Godzilla influence to her DNA.

Totally agree with you, the film has some good elements but it seems the story was all over the place and they did not know yet which direction to take this new series. Still a fun movie though. As someone who has been watching these for the 1st time recently too, I must say I thought the Heisei films just improve and there are some pretty fun ones coming! Probably my fav of the Godzilla periods.

I have ventured into the Godzilla franchise very little for some reason, I have seen Godzilla (2014) and a little of King Kong vs Godzilla (1962) King Kong brought me to it, fan, particularly of the 1933 version, Kong is a romantic anti hero, ape heathcliff lol, I do love Monster movies, love the Beast from 20,000 fathoms , the film Godzilla creator Tomoyuki Tanaka was partially inspired by, I really do need to see these films, they're a blank spot, great review as usual M.S. The 60’s and 70’s Godzilla is still so much worse. He had no muscle, was scrawny, absolutely hideous looking, seriously, he’s too human like and was too much of a good guy. At least this went back to 1954 when Godzilla was a bad guy and hated humanity and wanted to exterminate all of them. The 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s all had Godzilla hating humanity. This Gojira was an amazing suit. This one had a more menacing look as dual rows of razor sharp teeth and sharp claws and a very muscular built design. The 80’s and 90’s Godzilla’s suits got more awesome as the series progressed.

The film's original concept for Biollante was for her to have a feminine humanoid like face (A remnant of the daughter's DNA, you can see concept art if you google it) but TOHO wanted a more traditional monster.
@Weiselberry
@Weiselberry 5 жыл бұрын
Hm, that would have been different. I can see how it might have worked and you would have had all three of Biollante's origins more equally represented. But I can also imagine it making the design that much more disturbing, so maybe it's just as well they did what they did?
@noirgatherer
@noirgatherer 5 жыл бұрын
Jerome Weiselberry I think it would have been a more elegant beautiful Kaiju (think of a cross between the talking flowers in Disney's 1950's Alice in Wonderland but 80 feet tall with attitude). I think G vs Bio was the best film in the series of that era as the next films in the 90's were dumbed down to appeal more to children and sell toys (and the telepathic girl is in every one of them from here on out, I don't consider that a bad thing as her character grows on you). This one at least tried to be a mature adult sci-fi film and I appreciate that.

Jerome Weiselberry also after you see 1995's Godzilla vs Destroyah I would recommend seeing the American 1998 Godzilla film. The Japanese films after that had a lot of reaction, parody and references to that film so it'll put a lot of what you see in context.
@Weiselberry
@Weiselberry 5 жыл бұрын
Ah, that sounds much more visually appealing than what I was picturing. I see your point. And where Biollante seems to be a more neutral entity, it would have helped to convey that if the appearance (in evolved form) wasn't quite so monstrous. Yes, I'm planning to review the 98 movie. It'll be my first time seeing it. I was going to skip the non-Japanese movies, but then I decided to go all out. :)

Let me get this straight... you're okay with a 400-foot tall, mutated dinosaur that has nuclear-fire breath, but you're not good with ESP-telepathy which has been theorized and is countless movies and books... alright. I know I am not alone in this, but this is an excellent movie with a fascinating premise and plot and villainess kaiju. And I like Miki's character a lot. You'd better get used to her, you're going to see her again and again... I know this is 10 months later and you're probably watched all of these, but I just discovered your channel and am trying to catch up with your videos while rewatching the movies.
