Godzilla vs. Gigan is a 1972 Japanese kaiju film directed by Jun Fukuda, written by Shinichi Sekizawa, and produced by Tomoyuki Tanaka, with special effects by Teruyoshi Nakano.
Distributed by Toho and produced under their effects-based subsidiary Toho-Eizo, it is the 12th film in the Godzilla franchise, and features the fictional monster characters Godzilla, Gigan, Anguirus, and King Ghidorah.
The film stars Hiroshi Ishikawa, Yuriko Hishimi, Tomoko Umeda, and Minoru Takashima, alongside Haruo Nakajima as Godzilla, Kenpachiro Satsuma as Gigan, Koetsu Omiya as Anguirus, and Kanta Ina as King Ghidorah.
It is the last film in which Godzilla was portrayed by Nakajima after playing the character since the original 1954 film; he subsequently retired from suit acting.

This is a classic that I remember from my childhood and Godzilla vs the Smog Monster isn't as bad as its reputation in my opinion!

This movie was shown in U.S. Theaters under the Title-Godzilla On Monster Island.

The main reason I love this movie is that it's just so silly. You have Godzilla and Anguirus talking like a bunch of drunken bums. The side-plot with the goofy cockroach aliens and the cartoonist guy who uses his drawing skills to destroy them. The hippie guy with the banana-gun. And the battle between the monsters at the end is a lot of fun. The scene with Anguirus flying at Ghidorah and smashing him with his back spines, and Godzilla just stomps on Ghidorahs necks. But you really see Godzilla and Anguirus get bloodied really good in this one, and when Godzilla is blinded by the statue, he is nearly torn apart by Gigan. Anguirus is my favorite kaiju but he is not very bright. He just stares at Gigan's saw belly and and he runs into the buzzing sawblade with his head! Seriously, that was a stupid idea... what did you think was going to happen, Anguirus? At the same time, I feel that Gigan was not a very powerful villain. He looked cool, but he could only really hurt Godzilla because A. Godzilla had been blinded by a laser beam from a statue, and B. he had Ghidora backing him up. Once those handicaps were removed, Godzilla would easily destroy Gigan. And to make things worse, Gigan is always trying to fly away. He was a bit cowardly or maybe just smart enough to know fighting Godzilla is suicidal. Another weird fact - you see on the cover of this movie that Gigan shoots a laser beam from his head, but he never used that power in the movies. Yes there is a ton of stock footage, but when I was a kid and renting this on VHS I didn't really know or care about that. Its like a mix-tape / greatest hits of Godzilla movie and I would rather watch this one than the other movies from where that footage was taken. And the ending theme song is so beautiful. The scene where Godzilla slowly turns around and waves goodbye, just brings a tear to my eye even now. I'd say this one is a bit underrated, and I give it a 6.5/10. And I like it a lot better than Godzilla vs. Megalon.

This is one of my favorite Godzilla movies as well. I would put it in my top 10.

All Godzilla movies are great nostalgic fun to me. I have all of them on DVD or Blu-ray. I would occasionally marathon them all once every couple years.

Can you get reactors, if you know any, to take on The Night Stalker? Saw it in junior high when it first aired and got the crap scared out of me. It combined my most irrational fear (vampires) and my most rational fear (fighting under water). This was the last time any medium scared me, until I read Salem's Lot, where King robbed us of the cross (first vampire rule change). Would love to see people watch a gen-you-wine evil vampire with no redeeming qualities interacting with the modern world. Hammer had Dracula AD 1972 but he stayed in the confines of an abandoned and desecrated church. Count Yorga also stayed within his estate. .But Janos Skorzeny mixed it up on the streets of downtown L.V. He had no human watch guard, no one to pave and smooth his way in move after move. Skorzeny did it all himself. Why is this movie neglected? Do reactors not know they can draw from tvmovies? Because this movie was as good as 99percent of anything else on tv or from movie studios. McGavin had charisma to burn. It had a near perfect supporting cast, and it existed in a world where Bela Lugosi as Dracula was a reality. This movie was genius. The fact that it came from tv only made it that much more unlikely it would be good. Reactors need to get on the ball and I think you can make that happen.
