No joke, when I was watching Godzilla vs Kong for the first time, I was literally screaming “THAT WAS SO COOL!!!!” Every other second from the point when Kong was put on the ship, onwards. I had so much fun watching it and it is probably my new favorite movie of all time. It’s by no means the best movie (6th sense, and the conjuring shit on this movie), but I just love it so much.

An old fart and his daughter who just steals screen time for no reason and no meaning to the plot, including her bedroom toys she flings around constantly. They had absolutely no importance to the plot whatsoever, the old guy did nothing but talk about his theories. The only character who did something worthwhile was Serisawa and even his character was overall bad except for the scene where he DIED. Godzilla came and went and got killed, nobody did anything about it except Serisawa, and the whole story was just a dumpster fire. None of them even tried to seem likeable or even make you feel sad when they got hurt. And the acting was so mediocre, even for the 50s. If it weren't for the 8 minutes Godzilla was on screen, thanks to the legend Haruo R.I.P, the movie is awful. Only things worthwhile about it are Godzilla's character and the soundtrack.

However, to be fair that was the Godzilla movie for it's time, as in that's how Godzilla movies were, humans play a little role to get us to the monsters, if you want something a little more, you're not going to find it in a Godzilla, nor should you ever, especially if it sacrifices or takes away from the monsters. Godzilla movies are not about the humans, its about the monsters first, maybe about the affects of the monsters on the humans second, but rarely ever are the humans the focus. The only reason for the humans is to follow the monsters or have something to interact with or talk about the monsters. If your humans aren't doing anything monster related, your doing Godzilla movies wrong. We dont always need every human character to be a deep emotional/philosophical whirlpool, maybe just one, Other than that, they're just plot convenient, that's it nothing more, nothing less.

I think the reason the GVK had a shorter runtime was mostly due to the complaints of the rest of the Monsterverse films being unnecessarily long, over 2hrs long with not much character development in any of them, save for maybe Brian Cranston. To me, the shorter runtime helps to keep the audience’s attention long enough so that the story doesn’t drag and drag.

As a hardcore Godzilla fan, the 2021 Godzilla has to be the strongest and most intimidating and well personality of any Godzilla. He’s knows Ghidorah is back but he doesn’t know where or how. Then you have a rival Titan who has killed his family(kong) and you get why he’s so pissed off and ready to kick ass. The fact that he even laughs at kong but lets him live after the fight really makes him wise but relatable.

Funny enough, there’s a reason why the Kong suit in KKvG looked bad. RKO, the original rights owners of the character, asked Toho to avoid the look of the 1933 Kong. Toho in response had Kong’s design based on Japanese snow monkeys instead of gorillas.

19:19 - 19:26. Out of all of the stuff you mentioned in this video that I disagreed with, I heavily disagree with that specific moment the most. You have to keep in mind these are fictional characters. They’re not real. You can’t just say that Godzilla would win 100% of the time against Kong because at the end of the day it depends on the writer of the story and who the director wants to win. If we were to compare the original Godzilla and the original King Kong then of course it’s no contest. But we’re talking about films where Kong is nearly the same size and has the same if not more physical power level as Godzilla. I feel like the third round fight between Godzilla and Kong in the new movie could have gone either way but it made sense for Godzilla to win simply because Toho said Kong won in the original movie (seeing as how he was more popular in 1962 and is the one seen swimming away whim Godzilla is presumably knocked out under water somehow) and now because we’re at a point in time where Godzilla is just as popular if not more popular than Kong is, it makes sense to give him the win against Kong. That’s just what I think. I don’t want to come off as a hater but in my opinion this has got to be one of the worst takes I’ve seen on Godzilla vs Kong yet. But that’s completely fine, the content of your channel looks decent and you sound like a chill dude. We just have different opinions regarding films about 2 iconic giant monsters fighting each other and that’s ok. All of that said you have a good one man and don’t let anyone change your opinion over a movie. 👍

I personally would love to see the MonsterVerse make films that, even if still fun, chessy B-movies, be dark, deeply thematic, character-driven (from either human or kaiju point-of-view) and very emotional like the original Godzilla, Shin Godzilla and the Heisei Gamera trilogy. Also, what are your opinions on the soundtracks for both films? I found the original to have better music as the new one has very forgettable music, especially after all the great soundtracks Godzilla has had since the 2014 film. It's cool in some scenes, but ultimately this style and genre of music does not fit this film. It needed an orchestral classic score like with Godzilla 2014 and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

King Kong vs Godzilla has better characters just for that sub plot of the guy being on a submarine that sinks, his girlfriend (wife) getting worried and leaving to see if he's alright, him popping up at the house and discovering she left, just for Godzilla to attack and he puts his life in danger just to find her. Great video as always Eric, I pretty much agree with most of what you said, obviously watching a movie 80 years old in the modern day is gonna have some effect on your thoughts on it, as a pose to something of this time. I’d rate the 1962 Godzilla vs King Kong the same as you did (5/10), but I would personally rate the 2021 movie a little higher, more like an 8/10, because while yes the humans and story isn’t the best, the actual monster fights which we all wanted to see delivered in such a glorious way I would rewatch the whole movie for them, and the stuff they did with Kong made him far better than he was in his own movie. Also have you watched The Falcon and the Winter soldier yet? It’s soooooo much better than Wandavision I’m sure you’d like it

I just wish the movie didn't have the BvS ending; the two fight, and then they have to team up to fight another bad guy, and they become 'friends'. I rolled my eyes at that.

Granted the execution is better and IMO that's what mattered that it didn't come across as Batman vs. Superman. Kong was reluctant to help Godzilla upon reviving and only did so because Jia plead him to. Even after defeating Mechagodzilla, it seems they're about to fight again but Kong not wanting to wish to keep doing so dropped his axe to show he no longer wanted to quarrel. I took it as both having mutual respect towards each other Godzilla thanking Kong for helping and saving him but noting next time they cross paths he won't be so merciful. Might not change your opinion on the matter but thought it would help you not having as much of an issue with it. That said I too would have preferred no team-up but appreciate the different execution it had. Perhaps we'll get another Godzilla vs. King Kong film in the future by Toho that's more like the 1962 film which focuses on the fight and nothing more.

Now; to be fair about the 62 King Kong suit.. It isn't a a Kong suit. It's the suit for Toho's Half Human / monster snowman. Universal wouldn't give Toho any funds for creating a proper one. So they had to make due with their MONSTER SNOWMAN. The just made a new head for it. If you doubt that it is what I say; look up a copy of Half Human. You'll see for yourselves.

Godzilla was not causing trouble for no reason. The reason why Godzilla was attacking the humans was cause he was actually defending himself against them. Some of the humans in the movie were plotting to destroy Godzilla by creating MechaGodzilla to defeat him. Early in the film the Military even attacked Godzilla first with their fighter jets. And I gotta disagree, the characters on Godzilla vs. Kong(2021) were better than the characters from King Kong vs. Godzilla(1962). The actors were still better in Godzilla vs. Kong(2021). Plus the storyline in Godzilla vs. Kong(2021) was actually Good, definitely better than the storyline in King Kong vs. Godzilla(1962).

The novel version of godzilla vs kong explains things way better than the movie like the reason why godzilla is destroying stuff and especially they actually give a good backstory to ren serizawa

Agree with a lot you said, disagree with a lot you said. But overall (and people are welcome to jump on this comment😂) I find the 1960's fight to be better. It's true that in terms of looks and sequences the remake takes the cake. But there's one thing the original did that makes me view it as superior: it actually lets them fight by themselves. In the new one Kong is getting assistance around the clock and that takes away from the warrior image he just took on in Kong skull island. In the original it was pure Mano e Mano, silly but they were actually fighting on their own with no human to interfere. And Kong did great before he knocked himself out

Hey Eric I think the movie was supposed to be longer but they cut is to have a shorter runtime I guess and there probably were scenes explaining things better but again cut for time or maybe they didn't want to continue the monsterverse because it didn't make as much movie as they hoped (and we know WB has done that multiple times)
