I too have always wondered how in the scrapped “Godzilla vs Giant Monster Varan” that Varan would be the bringer of the end, then I saw a post elsewhere on how it seems Varan summoned a strong wind with the two trespassers in the beginning and after rising from the lake and flew off. As well as the fact there are butterflies from Siberia in Japan. The post described Varan as a “dino wizard” and given the existence of Mothra, it isn’t too hard to believe that statement. Along w/ his cut role in GMK as a wind deity/guardian. So I imagine Varan’s powers would’ve been (along w/ what you put forward w/ the breath power) bringing about the end of day through storms and other earthly disasters.

Yeah, varans fricking awesome, I'd love to see him again, just wish he was iconic as the other popular kaiju, like the g man. Mothra, rodan etc.

I really like Varan and whenever he is brought up, he gets turned down as it’s happening to him again but this time in a poll that Bandai have put out. Apparently Varan was close to been voted as the most requested figure for the Movie Monster Series line, however Super MechaGodzilla was added in at the very last minute and it doesn’t look good for Varan.

I love these What-if videos. Thanks for posting. Varan was originally planned for what became GMK, teaming up with Anguirus and Baragon before Toho squashed it. I hope Legendary gets the rights to Varan and other Toho monsters. Varan would look cool in the Hollow Earth.
