I don't know what happened to the American kaiju movies. Godzilla (2014) had a very serious atmosphere surrounding the monsters and showed the aftermath of what such a creature was capable of. It felt grounded enough to be believable. Not to forget it having fantastic cinematography and incredible sound design. I just don't understand why they shifted the tone from Godzilla (2014) to, well, this cookie cutter ADHD explosion. It couldn't just be the money though

I think this is the current equivalent of the Michael Bay Transformers movies. Some people just want to see more of what they enjoy, while others will rightfully criticize what's wrong with it. Neither side is wrong or right about it. There's always going to be an audience who are going to see and support Kaiju movies like this in the theater.

I adored Godzilla X Kong, but Mike isn’t wrong on alot of the stuff he says. It’s just that stuff doesn’t really matter to me personally. When you get a sorta showa Godzilla/Kong throwback, it makes me feel like a kid again and it’s great taking my kid to see big monster hit other big monster lol

Such a fun movie. Seeing Godzilla Mothra and Kong together for the first time in Kaiju history fighting skar king and shimo is just awesome. Seeing how the monsters interact with each other is so fun to watch. Gave me war of the Gargantuans/son of Godzilla vibes. This is definitely a showa era movie from the mid 60s and that's fun

Godzilla and Mothra have been in the same movie before. In King Of The Monsters, it had Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. I absolutely loved King Of The Monsters and I 💯 prefer Rodan and King Ghidorah over kong.

Eh. These are those types of Movies where I'm perfectly fine with the same thing. I want a Godzilla Movie where Giant, Cool looking Monsters Fight and Kill each other. That's all I want. Hell, I want more of it during! 😆 I fell out of the _Transformers_ and _The Fast and The Furious_ Movies a *looong* time ago because they got ridiculous and the *exact* same... But for Godzilla (and Kong), that works. That's the point of Godzilla Movies, for them to be Awesome, yet mindlessly Destructive! I don't want an actual Script or Story for these Movies. A little extra Lore for Godzilla and Kong, their Monsters and Worlds are fine, But I just want to see them Fight and Destroy shit. Same works here - in my opinion. 🙂 But, for possible new stuff... Two things I think they should do for future Godzilla, Kong, Monsterverse Movies... Either *completely* get rid of the Human Characters; other than possibly Nobody/No-Name Victims. We're *all* here for the Kickass Monsters beating the shit outta each other... *That's* it! We don't give a crap about the Humans and their lives/problems in these Movies! Or... Make Jason Statham the Protagonist/Lead. Him/His Character made the Meg Movies Entertaining, because him/his *Character* was Entertaining! So a Godzilla and/or Kong Movie with him could be fun; where the Human Character's are actually as Entertaining as the Monsters!

Did u even see the original 54 gojira movie? The movie is not supposed to be silly nor goofy. 9 years before the movie came out, the Hiroshima bomb was dropped in Japan. Godzilla is supposed to be the walking embodiment of the hydrogen bomb. In 1954, The Lucky Dragon #5 boat was exposed to radioactive fallout by the americans near bikini atoll. In the beginning of the movie, the ship that gets attacked by Godzilla was basically what happened to the Lucky Dragon #5. The movie is supposed to have a very serious tone. Ishiro Honda wanted it to be taken very seriously. The whole story is about a monster, that was baptized by the Hiroshima bomb, coming a shore and destroying everything in it's path. The original design of Godzilla had a head that was shaped just like the mushroom cloud, but was changed. The devastation to the city after Godzilla's attack was meant to depict what the city looked like after the Hiroshima bomb blast. The hospital scene showing people badly burned and the doctor using a radiation detector on the little girl was something that actually happened. Like I said, the 1954 movie took a lot of inspiration from the events after the Hiroshima blast. So by u saying that the original movies were supposed to be goofy and dumb are completely wrong.

I'm not even a fan (despite sounding like one) I only watched 2 other movies, but I really don't like when people start complaining unecessarily, some movies just aren't for some people, if I get scared easily and I don't like it, I won't watch horror movies and won't make bad reviews. I am not a cinephile, though I hate when people like to trash talk on some movie because they were expecting or they don't understand, I dunno, maybe for kong to get out of the screen without 3D, I have no idea. YES, it's a Godzilla movie, it will most likely focus on action and visuals. I saw some reviews and it sounded like people were expecting some kind of drama... with a godzilla.

It's purely visuals with the titans getting stronger, expanding the world and some old titans returning. Personally I am not a fan, I did watch the movie before and I think some people are really unfair in those critiques, some may be by the fact that they just don't like it and can't engage.

Maybe people are mad because it was dumb and bad movie and a waste of time? It’s not that hard to figure out, it’s just a bad movie and it being a homage to Shōwa era does not make it ok and is the problem when people point out they are copying and pasting from old Toho films instead of sticking with G14’s identity and set up. This is not Shōwa era and should not be trying to pay homage to it to the point that it’s just copying and pasting especially when most of them were not very good or aged well. This is Legendary Godzilla, it had its own identity, world building, set up, idea, style and knew what it’s trying to be. G14 had a serious, dark apocalyptic tone and because that’s what Legendary Godzilla started off as it should stick with that identity. Not keep going with this radical shift in tone and throwing stupid random ideas that it makes no sense or fits in to this universe. At this point the current direction the monsterverse is going in os stupid and full of bad and cringe ideas, the writing is cringe, the dialogue is really bad and this is really going to fan faction territory of bad writing. No movie should ever heavily rely on fan service like what’s going on in the current monsterverse, because it’s cringe and eye rolling and I don’t know how people keep enjoying these clearly bad movies and I’m sick of it. Everyone’s standards is this badly low that they’ll just eat up this boring slop that keeps being thrown into the script because the writers were sent a very bad message from the audience that they writers don’t have to try because they know everyone will just eat it up and not ever criticize it for making bad movies.

That’s not a opinion, it’s a fact, that’s literally what is on the screen. And paying a homage to Shōwa era is no excuse to look the other way from what’s clearly a bad script. I don’t even know what you’re trying to do making a basketball and chess analogy but it’s just not working and if you’re relying what the audience thinks as oppose to what critics think then you’re just telling me people are incapable of thinking for themselves and just praising the movie because it’s what everyone else is doing. Taking into account that there will be a continuation, and if we look at the comics and novels that are canon, perhaps we have a beautiful story, BUT this story is not about or for humans (this is better worked on in series like the animation of Skull Island and Monarch legacy of monsters), and yes about the monsters, it's as if the monsters were the protagonists, antagonists, etc. Being humans, narrators not only of the fights but also of the lore of this universe, which by the way, has a lot of potential if they work on a film just about the monster war, how it happened, when, where, how it ends and what it has in store. in relation to the monsters in the present and finally, this film promised exactly what the trailers showed, for those who know the Godzilla franchise (and other monsters/giants too) will see this film as a child's dream coming true (it was showa , heisei, Millennium of ideas), I bet Toho had a lot of good memories of the old films. And please, this comparison with minus one is ridiculous, completely different proposals, different paths, different focuses, and they both work and are good at that, even the director of minus one loved this film and I think it's good, even with zilla from 98 in which he didn't think it was as bad as people said, so why don't you open your bubble a little and have fun? I think it's possible to live with these two versions in hand, a wonderful feast for those who like monster films, especially for the fans, and I like that the first reviews that came out, the negative ones, although I have disagreements, they at least understand the proposal for this film and you know what it delivered, so much so that they apparently enjoyed the monster scenes and the story about them even though they didn't enjoy the film in general

The G fandom has made it clear that they don't care about writing and demand dumbed down movies with nothing but action fights and pretty colors. Please don't defend this movie by asking us to "turn our brain off", if that's your defense you already lost the deabate, why don't you ask the writers to turn their brain on? "FUN" is not synonymous of "STUPID", it doesn’t have to be, and we already passed that, oh that's right -1 wasn't Hollywood... here we go again. Enough is enough. This movie is to GODZILLA 2014 what BATMAN AND ROBIN was to BATMAN 1989 AND BATMAN RETURNS or what Moonraker was to James Bond. They started as something believable and serious and someone else turned them later into goofy cartoons. Being a fan of GODZILLA and tokusatsu cinema and tv doesn’t mean that I cannot dustinguish quality from trash, and as a healthy fan I always want quality, I don't consume and blindly deffend everything because it says "Godzilla" on it. Yes, the Showa era exists, but that was its OWN thing, and it was terrible, no point on hiding it, BUT this ultra goofy cartoon is NOT its own thing, it is supposed to be a CONTINUATION of a movie where Bryan Cranston, crying with a broken soul, had to sacrifice his wife and colleagues to save the city and his son, and he had to say goodbye while she was dying in front of him, a movie where they tried to give weight and REALISM to a creature of more than 300m height and thousands of tons in weight, where they tried to put on screen the consequences of its destruction and existence in the REAL world. That was the hook, what was promised to the fans, it didn't delivered that promise as well as GODZILLA-1 did, but it was a stept on the right direction, and that promise existed precisely because this franchise wanted to be NOTHING LIKE GODZILLA 1998. How did we get from that 2014 movie to this? How is that progress? Goofy movies are fun and have their space in cinema, a bigger place than what they deserve, but I repeat, that is when they ARE THEIR OWN THING and not a continuation. Yet this one goes an extra mille in stupidity which makes it insulting. After so many times complaining about studios telling us to "turn off our brain" when did you, the raging fans decided to obey and celebrate that? Have some integrity! GODZILLA-1 and everything from Nolan prove that movies can be intelligent and entertaining at the same time again, no excuse! Specially GODZILLA-1 reminded us 3 important things: 1 - You can have an intelligent, engaging, and even inspiring story and visual spectacle at the same time. Thay they cannot exist together is an old lazy writers' lie. 2 - People do like human characters, when they are well writen and important for the plot. These movies dont work without them, they are the ones that suffer the consequences of the destruction and as the audirnce we need that. 3 - Millions of dollars on visual efects worth are nothing if points 1 and 2 are not checked. IF you as fan complained of movies for being shallow, dumb and for treating the audience as stupid cattle, but you deffend this movie precisely for being all that, don't you dare to trash Batman and Robin, Transformers, anything from Michael Bay, Uwe Boll, Fast and Furious, Jurassic World, sharknado, Birdemic, The Room, again, because that's called DOUBLE STANDARDS. TURN YOUR BRAIN BACK ON. This movie is terrible and that's NOT A GOOD THING.

I honestly wasn’t expecting you to review this movie. Usually you and I’s opinions are relatively on the same page, but definitely not this time. Now to be clear some of the stuff you’re saying about this movie isn’t necessarily wrong, but I think a lot of the critiques are very nitpicky for the most part. Especially given the type of movie you’re reviewing. I definitely don’t think the CGI/special effects are nearly as bad as you’re implying. In fact I thought most of special effects were done pretty well. As for the characters yeah they’re not going to impress you if the other MV films haven’t. They’re not the most interesting characters, but they serve their purpose. The narrative is clearly focused on the monsters and the story we do see revolving around them is done well in my opinion. I think comparing this film to Minus One is done in bad faith. These two films are clearly trying to pay tribute to two very different aspects of the franchise’s legacy. If you went into this film with Minus One expectations then you only sabotaged your own experience. Not the directors or the rest of the team. I don’t think Takashi Yamazaki would approve of his work being used to discredit other works in the franchise. Look, I still love you man. I still really love your content and look forward to watching more reviews, but I definitely couldn’t disagree with you more on this one.

Thank you so much for this review. All the other youtubers I follow are being weirdly nice to this. Like, what else did you expect? Ummmm, I love dumb fun movies, but this isn't fun at all. My IMDb review echoes so many of your points: I keep coming back to these movies. Over and over. I love monster movies and can enjoy dumb-fun action. I'm the exact target audience. How do they continue to fail? Aside from Godzilla (2014), they range from mediocre to terrible. And GxK is no different. I know most reviews will compare this to Godzilla Minus One. But I have to. Every single Godzilla shot from Minus One is better than every single shot of him in GxK. Every single action scene in Minus One is better than every single one in GxK. Better story, characters, dialogue, emotional investment. Everything. Minus One is better in every way. The worst thing I can say about GxK is... I was so bored. And I didn't care about anything that was happening. Zero investment. This is partly because it doesn't really have a story. Stuff just happens. Halfway through, I still didn't know what the story was about, what conflict we might be heading to, any kind of build up of a threat. They continue with another useless human plot, completely formulaic and bland. One of the only positives is a highly talented cast. They're just not given anything to work with. Rebecca Hall is the only one who gets to show her talent. Even worse is the 50+ comedic attempts. I laughed twice. The nearly sold out crowd laughed a few times. The rest made me cringe. They're like dad jokes. The entirety of the human story is basically a kids movie. What about the titans? They rarely show the scale of these monsters. Most of the time it's from the perspective of the monsters, not the humans. So they always look like they're 6 feet tall, with everything around just smaller. Even the movements are so fast like humans are fighting. When they fall, they fall in a second. No ground-shaking impact. It feels so fake and nowhere close to epic. I'm not anti-CGI, but the big action scenes are hectic gibberish. I give up. It shouldn't be this difficult. I don't even need it to be a "good" movie. Just entertaining with good action. It's not about measuring straws. It's about which FILM was ultimately better. Which REPRESENTS The King of the Monsters better. It doesn't take much speculation to see. I saw Minus One 3x in theaters, and the third time, I was actually so PROUD of how far Godzilla has come. I actually was fighting back tears because I felt like Godzilla was FINALLY getting the respect and praise he so rightly deserved after been a huge fan since I was 10. About 2003 when Destroy All Monsters Melee was a popular fighter on Gamecube. I also knew that Toho would be the ONLY* creators to deliver that punch. It had to be the REAL Godzilla. Took a look at the title for the new monsterverse flick and immediately backed out! Saw fire-crotch Lanky Kong was the main villain.. 😬😬😬😬🙄🙄 "It's a no from me.." 💅🏻 💅🏻 Rip-off Rampage monsters don't belong in the same movie as Godzilla. This is also a KONG*** movie. We live in a day and age where all people consume is trash and so accustomed to mediocrity that they don’t know what an actual good movie is anymore. GvK was trash and I’m not going to see GXK, the movie looks like a dumpster fire. Taking into account that there will be a continuation, and if we look at the comics and novels that are canon, perhaps we have a beautiful story, BUT this story is not about or for humans (this is better worked on in series like the animation of Skull Island and Monarch legacy of monsters), and yes about the monsters, it's as if the monsters were the protagonists, antagonists, etc. Being humans, narrators not only of the fights but also of the lore of this universe, which by the way, has a lot of potential if they work on a film just about the monster war, how it happened, when, where, how it ends and what it has in store. in relation to the monsters in the present and finally, this film promised exactly what the trailers showed, for those who know the Godzilla franchise (and other monsters/giants too) will see this film as a child's dream coming true (it was showa , heisei, Millennium of ideas), I bet Toho had a lot of good memories of the old films. And please, this comparison with minus one is ridiculous, completely different proposals, different paths, different focuses, and they both work and are good at that, even the director of minus one loved this film and I think it's good, even with zilla from 98 in which he didn't think it was as bad as people said, so why don't you open your bubble a little and have fun? I think it's possible to live with these two versions in hand, a wonderful feast for those who like monster films, especially for the fans, and I like that the first reviews that came out, the negative ones, although I have disagreements, they at least understand the proposal for this film and you know what it delivered, so much so that they apparently enjoyed the monster scenes and the story about them even though they didn't enjoy the film in general

If you are looking for Godzilla Minus One plot, story and character development, you're not getting it. What you are getting is a monster mash tag team romp that will satisfy people looking to have a two hour amusement park ride. People should already know what they are walking into when you watch the trailer and TV spots of the film. After all, the people that walk out the film with a smile on their face are the winners!! Either way fans of both genre wins both Minus One and Godzilla X Kong. There are alot of people who have this notion that they need to go see every movie that comes out. When it comes to Godzilla movies, alot of people really just need to stay away from them. They're not Shakespeare, they're not trying to be, aside from 3 movies tops 97% of them aren't trying to be anything more than a dumb, entertaining, monster fight movie. Some people just can't get past that not everything is made for everyone and that its OK..I've never seen one frame of those fucking hobbit movies outside of trailers that I was either forced to watch or were on television and its OK, I don't want them to try and make hobbit movies that appeal to me. I'm part of the minority as well I guess. I hate what they've done with this monsterverse. The CGI is great, but the story and plot are just dumb, and stupid. I felt Godzilla 2014 was ok, and felt like a return to form sort of. I was excited for future installments, but man they fell off hard after that. These movies are just too goofy & too much of a cgi fest for my liking. I never got through Godzilla King Of The Monsters & passed on King Kong vs Godzilla entirely. If people love it great but they are just not for me.

Why do horror movies get to be the same old sh*t but Godzilla doesn’t? I’m a horror fan and for me monsters are adjacent genre. Godzilla has had so many different movie tones, I feel like a blessed fan that got minus 1 and GXK within 6 months of each other. This movie is f*cking insane and is aware it’s a giant Saturday morning cartoon mixed with the WWE. I’m sure we all didn’t go into this movie expecting Oscar performances or an Oscar worthy script. My friends and I were laughing and cheering with the movie the entire time.

He’s not a Godzilla fan lol. Only real fans of Godzilla will be able to watch and enjoy. The same way he’s a Halloween fan that still enjoys a lot of the Halloween movies that people shit on…it’s just something you’re either a fan of or you’re not.

Godzilla movies are literally the same thing over and over again since the beginning of time. If you didn’t like what they did back in the 60’s and 70’s, you won’t like these new ones.
