I understand a lot of people like it I just can't understand why and I give my SCREAM TV Series spoiler review here. The Ghostface mask is different? Ok, fine. It looks kind of cool actually (Although I prefer the original Scream Ghostface mask. But the characters in the Scream TV Series Season 1 are all cardboard cutouts that don't deserve to be in the Scream Franchise. The Ghostface voice is awful and the writing is horrendous. The fact this show couldn't even afford the licensing for the proper scream mask was quite telling of how much of a budget mtv gave this. i remeber in the build up to the series and how everyone saw the mask and was calling him Sexface or other terms, it was probably their worst decision as it made it quite clear that mtv wasn't willing to give this series the money OR the budget to make a good series. And that is quite obvious with the writing.

They could afford it but they wanted to do something different and not be another Scream movie repeat lol. The mask itself is a mix of the Michael Myers and Ghostface mask, fun fact. To me the MTV Show mask is scarier than Ghostface. I loved the show and prefer it over Scream 2, 3, & 5. The writing was PERFECTION in those first two seasons and the third season wasn't even bad either. Beth won me over :D and that actress is so good. Over the years more and more people started watching it and talking about it. The show is the reason why Noah is my favorite out of the whole franchise. The show did more with The Expert than the movies did with Randy lol. Season 2 also does something completely different and paints the target being Audrey and the callbacks the show gives the movies are chills. Emma goes through so much more hell than Sidney too and the way it fucks with her mentality, Willa is such a great actress when it comes to that. The show was always going to be in it's own universe and gave an origin story to the mask. The movies never gave an origin story to the Ghostface mask. I would go as far as saying even Season 3 gave an origin story to the Ghostface mask. I get why some would hate on the show, but to me when this show aired after the movies disappointed me the show won my love for the franchise back.

Everything was cheapened. Even the KNIFE wasn’t 120 special. It was a smaller 119. The kills lacked any practical effects.

Lack of budget for the OG mask is not the issue to me. Season 3 was a proof that OG mask and the voice don't make Scream good by default, it was ever worse than Season 1. To me problem with tv series was the fact it was so massively watered down with low quality boring drama and tearful tunes commercials ;) It felt like Dawson's Creek wanna be show. It didn't worked for me, it felt too streched. But I've seen many good opinions about it from youger aufiences, so maybe I was no longer a target. On the other hand new Scream movies (6 especially also have some soap operish drama to it and I enjoyed it). I gave up on tv series after epsiodes 1 season 2, I found it so boring. Cheers!

If it’s any consolation, there was an interview with the original show runners that from last year. They said for their plans going into season 3 and 4 were that Kieran didn’t die at the end of S2. Kieran would’ve escaped from his holding cell and a new cycle of killings would begin. Emma is out trying to distance herself from the Lakewood 6, Noah and Brooke are slowly losing their minds in different ways. Noah seeing visions of Zoe and Brooke acting out even more, and starting a fling with Audrey. The killings get closer and the main 6 start to point at each other again. Emma gets pulled back in the situation to help - very similar to Sidney’s situation in Scream 3. Eventually, most of the main cast gets killed (Maggie, Brooke, Audrey, Sheriff Acosta, Stavo) down to just Noah, Emma, and Kieran. Kieran kills Noah but Emma gets the drop on Kieran and ends up cutting his throat. The camera pulls back to a cast and crew on a set and a director yells cut. Amadeus Serafini (Kieran) gets up off the floor and wipes the fake blood off his throat. It is revealed that all of the events of the show we have witnessed were actually a television show in that world. “The Scream TV Series”. All the actors hug and then a wrap-party is mentioned. Then as the actor for Kieran walks into his dressing room, he is attacked by someone wearing an actual Scream (movie) Ghost-Face costume and has his throat cut (for real this time) and then that season would end. The 4th season would continue this approach. Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus and John Karna (Emma, Audrey, and Noah) all reflect a real life version of the Lakewood 6 in their world - the story of which was stolen and woven into a TV series by a desperate writer.” A killer in an original Ghostface mask, obsessed with the actual Scream franchise we as fans know, would begin attacking various folks involved in the entire “Scream entertainment universe”, whether they’re writers, directors, producers, actors, etc. This would have opened the door for actors from the original film franchise to make appearances on the show, guest starring as themselves…all as the cast of the Scream TV series would be attempting to determine who is behind this slate of real life murders as the body count continues to rise. The idea was to blow the walls off the television show and make it go super-meta. The whole idea of the S3 ending was that the camera would pull out and then all of the Scream universe, our universe - the actual actors from those films, and the writers, the producers, and the crew who had made the original Scream movies - were available to the story. The killer would have been someone who was obsessed with Scream who was stalking the cast.

Love your brutal honesty. If nothing else I got to love that you enjoyed Brooke’s character because she’s definitely the breakout character on the show. Everyone else is extremely wooden and one note for sure. I think the show took more chances in season 2 and gave the characters more to work with so season 2 is definitely an upgrade. Just the killer reveal alone is leagues better in my opinion. The killer reveal almost made me drop the show in season 1.

I'm not a fan of Season 1 at all, couple moments I liked but not enough. HOWEVER, I thought Season 2 was a big improvement. I actually enjoyed that season overall (once you get past the consistent flaws with Season 1). Characters I didn't like in Season 1, I ended up liking more in Season 2. (Like Brook for example, she's one of my favorites now and I couldn't stand her in Season 1) And then Season 3...that happened. But at least we have Roger Jackson back and the OG mask back. And Tony Todd...

I remember watching the first two seasons about two, three years ago? Season one was particularly rough, I felt it focused too much on the teen ‘drama’- the painful love triangle, the stereotypical characters that the writers did nothing special with, the awful dialogue. It was kind of a chore. Season two felt better, I won’t lie. In my memory, they actually focused more on the whodunnit murder mystery, and the horror aspect of Scream, a lot more. I wouldn’t say it was good but it wasn’t kind of terrible like season one was.

@@Escobarjah38. Focusing on teenage high school kids doesn't mean it has to devolve into shitty young adult novel, Riverdale bullshit that's just embarrassing to watch. The characters being stereotypical has nothing to do with the rest of the Scream franchise- these characters are boring and have nothing else to them than basic character traits that can describe hundreds of other characters in fiction. The movies have the issue of being a little too repetitive but they have likable characters you care about throughout. The series has nothing, absolutely nothing. No interesting story threads, no unique or fun characters, nothing. You can say characters got development but when it's the most basic, '14 year old's first story' shit and it isn't interesting in the slightest, or it's being done with characters who are just painful to watch, then what does it matter?

But I agree with everything you said. I wasn’t drawn in enough to want to start the others seasons, esp. after hearing they went a new route with season 3. I really did love the show the first two seasons were good af in my opinion, i loved the kills, the mask and i LOVED piper as the killer she was a great killer and villain. However i can 100% GENUINELY understand why people and especially scream fans would dislike / hate the show. I thought the show was pretty good for what it was. Especially season 2. Considering that, to this day, there's only been like twelve hours of Scream movie content, the show as a nice addition. It kept enough of the tropes, but switched things up where it needed to. Also the characters actually felt like high schoolers. Some of the deaths were pretty shocking for Mtv. The material was pretty tough to adapt for a Tv series...but I appreciate the effort. Better than I thought it would be.

Yes the dialogue was awful, so were most of the characters and it was VERY soap opera - egde lord - made for a bunch of fourteen years old.But that was also the charm of it. My personal favorite part of this entire mess was the Brandon James storyline, for me it was the only redeeming quality of the show.

Im currently rewatching the series and love that this is its own thing, the reason why they didnt use the Ghostface mask was Funworld was being a B!tch tk them. Season 1 i loved JUST the ending cause it stopped being a cute teen drama. Season 2 cause of the gimmick of using classic horror films to kinda recreat certain situations and shit and the last episode its my favorite horror movie set piece. I can't believe that you didn't mention the absurdity of the killer being a 110lb woman... The Podcaster being the killer was totally possible as long as ghost-face didn't do anything overly physical. But, that became impossible when GF killed Rachel. That girl was easily 70-80lbs, and GF hoisted her over a banister, and then subsequently hoisted her lifeless body, and 10ft of rope back up the banister, so that GF could hang her from her ceiling fan. NOT POSSIBLE! Also, Will tackled this chick. You'd think he would have noticed that he was tackling a chick. Slender frame; boobs. Lol He's like 210lbs of muscle. She would have felt like a feather to him. He would have had no trouble overpowering her. Ridiculous.

They do ALOT more with Noah vs. the movies did with Randy and the SHOW IS the reason why Noah is my favorite Scream character out of the whole franchise and EMMA DUVAL I fell in love with. Her cuteness and she grows strength over the seasons and she goes through more hell than Sidney as you'll see in Season 2 and she still survives. Season 2 also twists and someone else is the target that gets the call at first and just adds more layers to the amazing storyline. Season 3 actually ISN'T Scream 3 bad (I fucking hated 3 and everytime I watch it I feel like I'm losing brain cells lmao). Season 3 focuses on the lower class of people, Beth is SUPER FUCKING HOT and one of my favorite Scream characters, it's just bad writing in some parts and the characters are not as interesting as the OG seasons. The show is so underrated BUT over the years it's gotten so much more love. I've gotten five people to watch it over the past year and they fell in love with it and a couple prefers the show to the movies. I mean I get it why older people would prefer the movies (I'm 31 lmao) but the show to me has more rewatch value besides the first Scream movie and it has a BANGER theme music. It pops. Don't get why some would even say the acting or writing is bad at all especially in the first two seasons.

Season 1 was a pile of sxxx, Season 2 was a bit better and the way it ended with Audrey I thought Season 3 could be pretty cool, but alas Season 3 was a separate entity completely and just another 'lets make sure we've' got every single minority covered' box ticking exercise and from what i remember the only white person in the whole show was the killer :-(

Season 1 was a drag in every department but was okay. I really enjoyed season 2 though. It did improve massively. Brooke was a great character. A 3rd and final season really should have happened. Not the actual 3rd.

Bro this show was not that bad. I mean season 3 was god awful but season 1 and 2 were not that bad, at least to me anyway. I mean the movies were arguably better in many ways but the show was also not that bad for the time period it was in. At this time teen dramas were pretty much everywhere. In truth I see this show as a sort of mix between Dawson's Creek (go with me on this) and the scream shows. Iny view the show does flesh out its characters a lot more and makes me feel more for them. I will admit there are characters in the show that I like more than the movies. Like to me Noah was better than Randy (come the fuck at me internet) and Audrey and Brooke were better than the side characters in all the movies. Though I will admit Emma was not as good of a protagonist as Sydney. And Gail and Dewey are better than the cop and new person in the show, sort of. Personally the first movie is like a 9/10 for me and the other movies are at minimum a 6/10. The first 2 seasons are like at minimum a 8/10 for me, the first season is like a 9/10 for mer personally.

Well sir I respectfully disagree. I love the series (seasons 1 & 2). I think the show honors the OG concept of the OG scream film and expands on it within that point in time (2014-2016) I was a jr/senior in high school when when the show started and I had just started really learning about horror and meta screenwriting. So I felt the show spoke to the correct audience who watched it at the time. It’s definitely trying to capture the success of Teen Wolf(which I was also a huge fan of) and the rise of teen tv mysteries that would rise up within the next few years (Riverdale, 13RW, & dead of summer) Overall I will always defend this series (Season 1 & 2) and express my love for it. But I understand why most people find faults in it. Especially in the scream fandom old n new. But I always encourage viewing it from the perspective of the point and time. Like I said I think it honors the scream concept very well. I love that the thesis of season 1 is “can a slasher work as a tv series?” and in true scream 4 skeptical fashion, the answer is no.

I actually think a scream show can work but it has to be high budget with competent actors and the real mask! Scream 6 would've made a great show. Imagine a few episodes with the scream killers trying to kill our heroes and then mid season you get a twist with real ghostface killing the rookie ghostface. Could work

Eh, I quite liked it. Wouldn't go back to it. The things that bothered you didn't bother me as much. I don't necessarily disagree with a lot of what you've said. Except Piper being worse than Roman... Piper was not exactly a good killer, but she at least kept me guessing for the first four episodes or so.

Regarding the final girl also - I may have been more forgiving because I'd just recently watched "Urban Legend" for the first time (not a movie I grew up with, I only saw it much later on) and Alicia Witt's character in that movie makes Emma look like Sarah Connor by comparison. I like "Urban Legend" despite its flaws, but man... it is annoying how by far the three least interesting / likeable characters are the ones in the finale, whereas everybody I actually enjoy watching ends up being killed off earlier on. At least they had the good sense to keep Loretta Devine around until the end!

I remember the first 2 series often went 3-4 episodes in a row without a single kill, no chase scenes, main characters had way too much plot armor and in general it was just a boring show with no good characters (other than Emma who was ok). I really enjoyed the rebooted 3rd season but for some reason that one was hated. Always found that strange.
