I want to ask you a question. In the H pattern, the fans at the bottom push the air down. The GPU pushes it up. How does the air cycle between the fans at the bottom and the GPU happen? Don't they fight against each other? I was pleasantly surprised that this template turned out so well.@@KleoYan
@KleoYan
@KleoYan 11 ай бұрын
@@thunderselim good question. For horizontal mount. The warm air pushes from the GPU is towards the motherboard and side glass pannel. This is where the bottom fans will draws them away instead of circulating back to the GPU fans. You are right about the fight there but the heat from the GPU heatsink does not stay, even fighting to draw cool air, the heatsink will cool by itself, so long it does not accumulate heat (passive cooling) The GPU heatsink passive cooling is rapid. when the heat from the pipes dissipate to the GPU heatsink, the big surface area can dissipate better as there are no warm air circulating back through the GPU fans, which can cause the heatsink to accumulate more heat, resulting in bad thermal. Hope this help.

Thank you very much for your answer. Using the H template is much nicer as the front surface of the rgb fans is visible. If I hadn't watched this video, I would have tied the back of the rgb fans like in template A. I think the only negative point of this version is that it will pick up a lot of dust from the side since it does not have a dust filter.@@KleoYan

@@thunderselim you are most welcome and yup you are right again. That’s why for my two rigs. I weekly dust off with a portable blower at low speed and also stop the fans with chopsticks to prevent them from spinning while am blowing the dust. Reason to stop the fans, wouldn’t want current to flow back to the motherboards which will be bad.

This video doesn’t get enough love. One of the most, if not the most comprehensive guide for fan configuration on the O11D EVO. I’m pretty much set on the A config vertical as well, though I’m building a custom loop with 3x360 rads. My only concern is that the bottom mesh is not big enough to cover the whole bottom of the case, setting the bottom as an intake would suck a lot of dust up inside the case. However, given other bottom exhaust options did not yield any noticeable result, I guess ima go with A vertical. Thanks again for the great vid. A hot Asian country with excellent English and very specific accent, would that be safe to guess you’re from Singapore? ❤

Hi Sebastian Tran, welcome to my channel and thank you for your kind words, greatly appreciated it. For dust factor, yes the mesh filter at the bottom does collect lots of dust, but luckily the mesh is easily access from the bottom as it slides out from the side (provided that your desk have sufficient space). You are very correct. I am from Singapore and once again thank you for your compliment and all the best with your build too. 😉

Very detailed video man 👍 I live in the UK and use A but with my 280 kraken in the side with tubes up 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s hassle trying to get it with tubes down with the GPU and it’s cabling in the way. I wish AIO manufacturers would offer you a longer hose variant so it would make mounting easier. Love the colour combo you went for, the GPU has nice rgb too which just adds unlike my palit 3080 😏😂

Hi Helghast73, welcome to my channel. There's just one other fan configuration I wanted to see that wasn't tested here. Basically A configuration, but with the rear fan set to intake. My reasoning for this is cause it gives more air for the AIO, and the AIO doesn't need to fight against that fan anymore. Only I and J test this, but I and J are definitely bad because they have bottom fans set to exhaust. So basically all fans as intake but the top fans. I imagine this configuration will be surprisingly decent, and get close to as good as configuration A.

I would love to see this test run again but with an air cooler vs an aio water cooler. As I've always wondered if the top fans as intakes would help cool the CPU further as theyd be blowing down and through the heatsink/pipes.
@KleoYan
@KleoYan Ай бұрын
Hi Jonathan Ryan, welcome to my channel. Thank you for the suggestion. I will see what I can do in future case content related to the O11D family. As for aircooler, it's not advisable to have top as intake of air as your warm air will recycle more within the case, it will still be advisable to have top fans exhaust.. what it does is to draw and forcing the cool air in from the side more, the concept is just like a water fall. The pressure that is.
@jonathanryan9946
@jonathanryan9946 Ай бұрын
@@KleoYan Yeah, I've just seen some people claiming that if make the back top fan an intake and the front 2 top fans exhaust it actually does help cool the CPU, while still giving you plenty of exhaust. Basically arguing the cool air that gets blown in by the top front fan but then gets sucked out by the front 2 top fans before reaching the air cooler. So it's essentially wasted air flow. Thus if the rearer top fan sucks that air back in, it can be blown directly down onto heatsink/pipes and essentially adds a 2nd fan (3rd with duel heatsinks). Then the rear fan can can exhaust that air. Think of the air flowing kinda like a heart beat sing ﮩ٨ـ or like a -~-. I currently only have an older I7-8700 non-k so never had the need to test this. As my CPU only draws 65w (which I slapped a peerless assassin on because I live in a very hot US state, especially in summer). However top end games are now putting me at the minimum requirements (Space Marine 2) so I'm looking into now finally going into a new cpu/motherboard (limited upgrade potential with the lga 1151 chips). As I have a peerless assassin air cooler I was obviously thinking it's good enough for most CPUs (especially if I undervolt it, and if I stay intel that might be a good idea atm). Thus I could save money and put more into a new CPU/motherboard, and get an AiO later but only if I need it. This made me recall some more... unique fan configuration setups. Thus me scowering for any videos I could find. Obviously most of the best ones are for AiOs though. I know normally having all 3 fans in one spot is advisable to stop air just basically recirculating... but as the air Coolers heatsink is usually very close to the fan and the fans on the heatsink itself should exhaust it out the back. It made me curious if this was one of those exceptions to the rule. Well, thanks for your opinion on the matter. Again I was more just curious about it academically, because I currently don't need it. So any testing on my own wouldn't show much as my cpu doesn't make that much heat
@KleoYan
@KleoYan Ай бұрын
@@jonathanryan9946 some of what you've stated, yes, it's logical but when you practice it, it's of a different story. before I start, I should have mentioned that this experiences I have is based in a hot and humid country. an example. my cool air intake is infact warm air, unlike in colder countries. therefore the below experience which I share with you are based here in Singapore. The top fans are near to the air cooler heatsink. it's blowing cool air directly to the Air cooler heatsink and logically the rear will push the hot air out, but the amount of cool air to your heatsink. those warm air will be brush towards your motherboard area. Cooling a system is not just cooling the Processor or just the GPU Die. it's overall. Lesser warm air trap inside a case, the better it will be. Accumulation of heat inside a case will do this, it affect areas like VRM Heatsink, M.2 armour shield and the ram slot areas. these are also components which will help drive the performance of a PC. Now as for having the sides with two exhaust fans. yes you can have that with the top as intake. you are right, but in real practice, warm air travels up and not side, unless you are setting very high RPM at the side to draw the hot air out. else will will still circulate the warm air inside a case. There are also negetive impact when you do this configuration. There will be lots of dust as time goes by and this will even cause your aircooler heatsink to accumulate dust fast.

I know it comes auto but have heard that can be a reason why temps get so hot for the auto setting. Maybe the volts or something involving the cores? Also dont like my Lian Li fan controller cpu temp I can put on my pump is really the cpu package temp display and not the cpu temp like it should be. I would compare to other softwares and the cpu temps wood be different but the package temps would match. I also might switch coolers. This is the newer one with the big lcd screen but I liked the kraken elite. Anyway I notice from changing the auto overlock feature in BIOS to disabled my temps dropped like 10 degrees so I’m wondering if I should do it manually? Hey thanks for the video! I have a question about “configuration D” 12 intake fans and 1 exhaust from the back. Would you consider this a decent choice for cooling? My aio is push pull with 6 intake fans, 3 bottom intake, 3 side intake, and 1 exhaust in back. I subscribed to your channel!
@KleoYan
@KleoYan Ай бұрын
Hi LivingLegend, welcome to my channel. I do not advise you to do configuration D and these are the reason 1) Though alot cool air going in but your 360 Air is drawing warm air in. here are no room for warm air to exchuast out fast 2) creating too much air pressure into the case, your rear fan might get damage earlier infact for push pull configuration. there are two option which I will suggest Option 1 1) Top with 360 aio (push pull) - Exhaust 2) Bottom and Side - Intake 3) Rear - exhaust at least this is a balance case airflow. Option 2 1) Side AiO push pull - Intake 2) Top - exhuast 3) Bottom - intake 4) Rear exchaust 5) with this configuration, you need to mount GPU vertically. Advantage of Option 2 over option 1) A) your GPU will not be blowing warm air directly to your motherboard (Take note, for this you need to mount your GPU Vertically) B) Cooler motherboard area = cooler VRM and RAMS which allows your system to push up slight performance C) Tough the side is pulling warm air but the bottom fans pushes hot air out and your top fans are not having any obstruction to exhuast warm air out. If you choose to put AIO at the side, just try to set the Radiator hose at the bottom. There will be clearance for you to tug the host behind your vertically mounted GPU.

Hello MeGusta SKINKE, welcome to my channel. the only fan size you can cater for the rear in this case is 120mm and infact the whole set up are using 120mm AL V2 fans. as for the bottom exhuast, I did have this concern like yours but when I did compilation on 3D stuff, the GPU does not go beyond 50 degrees and the fan on the GPU is not even turning. This is due to the fact that the bottom fans are drawing heat away from the GPU at the bottom. Do note, this is based on a RTX 4070 Ti card. which most 4070ti or 4080 GPU runs cooler compared to the RTX 3000 series.

Hello Fluffy Waffles, welcome to my channel and thank you for your feedback. My reason for not placing the AIO at the side as I don't like the hose tension. In general in all case, if i intend to mount the radiator at the front or top, I will set the AIO hose at the bottom. In this case it's not idea as there are too much tension on the hose, unlike Arctic Liquid Freezer II where it has a hose lenght of 450mm. Now if it's possible to mount at the side. As what I have experience from my previous case, the O11D mini. the hot air goes in to the case, plus at the bottom pushing hot air from my GPU.. so there are less cool air intake as compared to having AIO at the top, you have both sides and bottom as cool air intake. that I believe will improve the air circulation instead of accumulating hot air in the case.

I'm a little bit late to the party, but I was wondering if you were able to compile your testing with the front mesh panel and gpu mounted upright? I'm trying to help out a coworker with a build she's working on, and she's got her heart set on the upright gpu, but she's also very concerned about temps in general, so this video has already been a great help to me (there's so little end user data out there on fan placements and resulting temps in this case despite its popularity and how long it's been on the market!). That said, if you have any info about how things turned out for you with the front mesh planel and upright gpu mount, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks for the upload and all the great information! @KleoYan Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew Swanson, welcome to my channel. Based on what I have experience and due to busy work schedule, I will just explain here of what my findings. if you only place the front mesh with GPU Vertical Mount as illustrated here (Style A), it gets mixed results. GPU does drop 3 to 4 degrees celcius but the CPU weirdly increase by 2 to 3 degrees. If you place upright GPU with intake at the side. This gives better results. GPU does drop 5 to 7 degrees and the CPU does drop by 2 to 3 degrees. The reason for this, direct intake of cool air to your GPU at the side and there are no blockage of the bottom fans which pushes more cool air up. Having more cool air to push the heat from your motherboard area.

@@andrew_swanson Hi, ok sorry for the late reply and it took me one day to set up my system in inverted mode. I am not getting any good temps with inverted settings. reason being the rear fan makes no sense, you see the bottom fans (more rear) is blowing cool air to the motherboard area but instead of having the cool air. the rear fan which is position directly behind the motherboard rear I/O, it's drawing the cool air out instead of landing it on your motherboard area. If I am to remove the rear fan. the hot air travels to the top is of a distance. Another pointer, it takes more time to build in inverted mode. the routing of cables is rather messy, as the cable traveling distance is shorter between the PSU and to your motherboard. More cables will need to be tuck at the PSU Compartment area. I don't like inverted mode. It might look good if you do it right but not very practical interms of thermal results.
@andrew_swanson
@andrew_swanson Жыл бұрын
@@KleoYan Whoa, you really took the time to set up your rig in inverted mode? Very flattering for a random yt commenter! It's really appreciated tho, seriously. That's a good point regarding the cable distances. Had not thought of that one since I haven't ever bothered to try inverted with the few evos I've worked on. I may give it a shot just to see how it looks on my desk if I ever decide to purchase an evo for myself, but the cable management problems might deter me since it's technically not a necessity unless you want it to be. I might try to use the rear fan as an intake if I ever do try it out since its location would be so much farther away from the mobo, but if it weren't optimal, then like you said, you're left with less than ideal options with what you can do with it. Remove it and disturb the bottom intake less, but then increase the distance the air needs to travel to the mobo, or leave it and look at it being redundant and kind of useless in such an odd location. Hm. Something to think about for the future for me. Anyway, thank you very much for taking the time and going through the effort of building just to answer a curiosity driven question. @@Shahriar.H I would go for aio at the top exhaust. Fish tank cases like this, the bottom intake only gives partial cool air which cools your GPU and bring warm air up. Hi Rod Donnelly, welcome to my channel. fitting 4 sticks is not an issue, plenty of space. as for arrangement of liquid AIO, for my end it's more ideal to place it at the top and to exhuast out. @@KleoYan Of course when you run a game if you have proper setup your GPU will run close to a 100% and CPU utilization will depend on the game, usually between 40 - 70%. The important factor is that GPU will dump so much heat into your case that it will affect everything. Also GPU fans working will definitely affect the airflow. So yes, your results are only valid for CPU only related workflow and are meaningless for gaming. Also the number of fans that you have in your setup is actually causing more harm the help. No matter how you set it up you always have at least two fans that are not doing any active cooling. I will bet you that you will get equally good results or even better when remove two or three fans from it. This setup is only good for a show off.... for a youtube build to look pretty
