SOLIDWORKS Tutorial -Sketch on Edge

In this video, we will showcase the SKETCH ON EDGE technique. Depending on the shape we are making, trying to create a plane in a complex area requires multiple planes to get the correct starting point. Then we must add sketch relations and/or convert entities to make sure the orientation of the sketch we are creating is properly located. One way to reduce the workflow mentioned above is using SKETCH ONE EDGE. To use this simple pick one end of the sketch segment you want to start from then pick the SKETCH icon. Once you do this SOLIDWORKS will automatically create a plane normal to the endpoint of the line segment and place an origin on the endpoint. From here we simply sketch and fully define the sketch entities and very quickly we are reducing our workflow which means faster design times.

Thanks David. A great tip for creating quick and easy planes. I was just wondering how the software determines which end point to place the plane on. Does it depend on which point the initial click was closer to? Also, the same result can be achieved by selecting an arc's end point and the arc itself to create a plane normal to the tangent of the arc at that point. The initial method at 01:25 seems a bit inefficient for this purpose. However, this method is quite quick and interesting. I can definitely see myself using this more in the future. Thanks again.

Hi David, this is off the subject, but.... In my 2020 SWX I have the option to create a hold line when creating a fillet. In the 2022 version I can't find the hold line option. Did it disappear? Thank you!

The hold line is part of the Face fillet feature and it is still there in 2022 help.solidworks.com/2022/english/SolidWorks/sldworks/r_face_fillets.htm?verRedirect=1
