I had a friend who drank himself to death by the age of 34 yrs. Married had a 5 yr old daughter who played with my 5yr old all the time. My daughter is 30 now, married very happy with two children, 3 + 5 yr old. Anyway He called me while he’d been in the hospital for a severely bleeding ulcer. I haven’t heard from him for a coupla of years. He said it was a horrible technique used to stop the bleeding. They pumped his stomach full of ice cold water, very cold. They had to do it overnight with no promises. He called and asked me to bring him a few joints that he would smoke in the bathroom. Floored me on my ass when he said that. I told him he would be thrown out if caught with an illegal substance. Back in the 90’s that wouldn’t fly. When he left the hospital he lost his job wife and daughter and moved in with his parents basement and continued drinking liter after liter of Gordons & 5 O’clock vodka until he died. I received a call from his parents to see if there was anything of his I would like to keep and to stop by. I did they left me alone in the room he died in. I happened to step on an empty bottle near his bed. Under the bed was at least 50 or more empty bottles of nasty liquor. He was in so much pain yet even then he continued to drink straight liquor. That level is truly insane. Break my heart every time I think about the fun times we had before he crossed the line.

I wonder if Murrich was the drunk who ran over his family? His aversion to alcohol was purely out of guilt for running over his own family. So when he couldn't stop, he tested the hellgramite method on himself. He's living proof that it's a sucess. As for the flask he keeps in his office, it's rather for his patients, not himself. It would've made a nice backstory on his part, show that his hatred for alcohol isn't so one-sided. And it would've made him more relatable to Judson.

Alcholism is no joke and it would be refreshing to see commercials give a liitle bit of this, instead of stupid pretty pictures of beautiful people prancing around drinking and advocating it! I share birthaday with rod , not same year lol and love all his stuff. Not sure whether these newer adaptions are really his writings.

Yes. The HELLgram Technique works if you can be SCARED STRAIGHT. BUT...The ONLY Technique THAT is a SureShot is THE FEAR OF HURTING GOD & The Desire For CHRIST GOD TO "LIVE IN YOU" and "BE IN YOU" BEFORE ALL Things (especially Alcohol, Drugs, etc.... BEFORE All Addictions.) THE HOLY SPIRIT canNOT LIVE IN a Soul that does NOT YEARN TO STOP SINNING. The Holy Spirit flees from The Self-Serving One who "chooses" TO DESTROY their Soul's Temple, rather than choosing to purify it for the welcomed dwelling of The Holy Trinity in order to SERVE THEIR FATHER. LET JESUS SAVE US & SET US FREE From All Addictions, All Evil. Amen❤

Can't believe I never saw this episode. People I know very well refer to alcohol as The Rapacious Creditor...always will come back for more until nothing is left. A quaint reminder is that should you ever go back out and drink is that it is 'waiting for you in the parking lot and doing push ups', only getting stronger if you slip. He could have foregone the worm if he would have had the Willingness to take twelve simple steps. Not saying the simple steps are easy....but it can be done.

My brother went through rehab three times for alcoholism but always started again as soon as he got out. He didn't buy into the 12 steps. He destroyed his liver and died alone at home on Christmas in 2016. So many people don't believe how addictive alcohol is. It destroyed my brother and brought so much grief to our family.
