Hey, good job on the videos. I just wanted to share a thing I tried and that you might have the opportunity to try way more than me. When watching a film or any activity where you don't really move, get a blanket, and put the beardie on you, under the blanket. If it's tired it might work better, but globally the purpose is to make him sleep with your scent, then waking up already on you. They get that if you didn't attack them in their most vulnerable state, why would you now ? Of course there's still the work to make them not scared of those damn moving hands, but it helps kinda fast with handling / being on you. Once again, I've not as many beardies, and not as crazy as this one =)

You have misquoted him and clearly do not understand the defining factors one must possess to be a psychopath. The actual quote is: "Basically they (the bearded dragons) try to act all angry and scary, but in reality you just like look into their eyes and then you just see fear and it's kinda cute, it's like awww and I don't know you just kind of feel bad when it's like they're just so innocent they're just trying to stay safe while they freak out like this." Which demonstrates empathy and compassion in a non violent display, the complete opposite of the characteristics of a psychopath. You do not deserve those likes based on a misquote and a labelling of someone with such an unjustifiable term.

@catsplat1272
@catsplat1272 5 жыл бұрын
Oranges' n' Grievers Beardies can learn to associate certain words with certain things. However they don’t really respond to tone of voice the same way as mammals do. Like I can meet a random dog and say “here Buddy, here Buddy” in an inviting tone and even if the dog has never learned that, they will likely rush over to me with their tail wagging. I’m sure reptiles can respond to tone to a certain extant (and loudness for sure) but definitely not as well as non-human mammals.
@catsplat1272
@catsplat1272 5 жыл бұрын
And yeah it’s a good idea to train your beardie to respond to words! I don’t have a beardie (yet) but if I did I’d probably say “good morning” when I wake up, “hello” when I approach the enclosure, and something dumb like “yum yum” before I bring out the food lol.
@amanda.a.m
@amanda.a.m 5 жыл бұрын
Cat Splat that’s so funny, because I actually have the opposite experience with mine! 😂 he doesn’t know words, but he definitely knows when I’m being extra “cutesy” and baby-talking him versus when I’m being regular...or even if I’m not in a great mood (which isn’t directed at him-he will just noticed and he won’t really wanna be touched or handled) Honestly, reptiles are sooooooooooo individualized that we all could’ve each gotten a dragon from the same hatch and they will all respond to the same things differently. It makes them all so cool! No wonder there are hobbyists haha Thank you all for your responses (: they were great to read! Love hearing about people’s beardies

So glad I don't follow that guy, I watched two of his videos and his attitude to his reptiles were so obviously unprofessional and harmful to the animals in his care that I immediately unsubscribed. Glad I never have to meet him.

@@MsCherade9 I couldn't agree more. He is massive cringe. I have also heard people say that the animals they got from him were riddled with mites and other health issues. Not surprising given the state of the drawers he shows on camera when he messes with a snake. He is the worst kind of drama monger and I really loathe him. back in February i adopted a milk snake that was nearly dead, was only fed every few months, was constantly laying in a tub of stagnant water and HATED people being near her. i decided she was the one when i first got her out and she just didn't have the energy to really do something about it, so the next day i took her home and ever since ,maybe 2 months after i got her, she has been an absolute sweetheart, only whips her tail about when you make her jump, and to this day has never bit me on purpose (only when she misses her food). all in all she's lovely to work with and i don't regret getting her for a second. I just wish she was never in the situation she was in before and never had to experience almost dying of starvation. i also had a similar experience with neglected beardies who are now demanding to come out for a cuddle every day and running around chasing the dog so they can have her toys (i have 2 females and they love each other, they are sisters after all)

It's a lot like parenting, if you show your dragon that they can push you around they will. Try showing your hand to them with food in it so they can connect your hand with food and show you are not a threat. Leave the dragon be when you place its food down to show you mean no harm. Soothing words and slow actions when a dragon is angry is the best way to go. Gently pet its head and body until it relaxes a bit more and do that at least once or twice a day presumably after feeding. It will take awhile but your lizard child will come around. Hope this helps a little! Been trying to do research about dragon behavior and this is what I scrounged up😅😅

@hunternyx4462
@hunternyx4462 5 жыл бұрын
@@rachelmatthews1157 it's going to take about a month for your baby to get used to you and stop being so flinchy but he should warm up to you. I usually take my beardie out once a day, twice if hes in a good mood. And I'll let him relax on me for about 15 minutes. I'll pet him consistently and he usually falls asleep and refuses to go back into his tank afterwards lol. I find he tends to back up sometimes when hes scared if he does that keep your hand behind him so he dosent fall. Dont put your hand over top and force him to stay put like the kid in this video did. It will only freak him out more. Keep petting him and quietly talk to him if hes getting a bit upset. Should calm down if he acts up to the point where u cant keep him in your hands put him back into his tank and slowly work your way back up to holding him by petting him. Just show him your love and he will feel it and trust you. Hope this helps a bit.

Bearded Dragons are adorable when they're angry- worked with a bunch of angry ones that were rescued. I helped calm them down... No matter how angry they are, I've found overall, they're one of the easiest ones to calm down, and one of the easiest to avoid being bitten by- I have been bitten by large adult ones, not as bad as like, getting pinched by a hermit crab that won't let go- lol, it's a pinch- there was a little blood, but the pinch is what I felt more than anything- he bit, and released- he didn't hold on like Tokay Geckos do. Give me a large beardie bite over a large tokay bite! (Though I'd prefer not to be bitten at all of course!)

At first I was apprehensive about it, but after reading about taming techniques in reptile forums and other places I started to get on board with the idea. The thought of actually calming down a defensive neonate after patiently working at it sounded pretty rewarding, and I had always thought that energetic babies were cute - just look at little blue tongued skinks, so adorable! Maybe I just got lucky, or it was due to the breeder I got him from (I'm not sure if they interact with the babies before selling them) but my boy came home calm and curious and though he's definitely gotten more comfortable with me over time, he was never frightened enough to attempt to strike me or even hiss. As I'm thoroughly in love with reptiles, I'm sure I'll end up getting another one down the road, and we'll see if I end up with an individual requiring a little extra effort to become tame. Thanks for the tips, another great video!

Thank you so much for all of your videos! My boyfriend has had beardies growing up his whole life. One recently passed away. So together, we're getting one in about a month. So I (never having had a beardie) have been watching many videos about caring for bearded dragons. And yours are my favorite! Thank you so much for all of your honest and helpful advice.

My dragon bit me twice when I first got her because I reached in without warning and I didn’t even realize she bit me. It was the TINIEST pinch and I looked at my finger and saw the calcium residue in the shape of her bite 😂 also really weird amount 7 months into having her, she was on the floor then just randomly didn’t recognize me when I went to pick her up and puffed her beard out and opened her mouth. Kinda freaked me out cause it was the first time I saw her like that. I just threw a small blanket over her and picked her up. Then she recognized me again. So odd. Kinda cute when they’re mad tho 🥺

The bio teacher I aid for actually has three beardies and the newest female, Tiana, was super fun for me to work with because she was alot like the female shown in this video. But the sad part was she was not well cared for nor feed and was super dirty. I started by handling her for a couple hours at a time everyday coupled with leafy green feedings and giant mealworms. I did this for about a week before giving her a bath and after the first bath she really started warming up to me and I got to say that was probably the most awesome part. Now, a couple months later, she growing some fat and eating well! Good job with this female!

When I first got my beardie it was very underweight and angry, she was a 10 inch juvenile and was comfortable being held after a while but it took a long time to pet her, I would consistently hold her, and just sit next to her (which is surprisingly effective in trust building). And now she is a perfect angel.

Another way of taming reptiles (lizards usually) that I've heard of is to get a sweaty sock of your own and put it in one of their hides so they associate your scent with safety and comfort. I'm trying it with my angry Amazon tree boa. It's bites feel like a crackhead improvised their used needles as a shiv.

I adopted a leopard gecko maybe over a year ago (probably 8 months idk I suc at memorizing) She has ALWAYS been super fearful and almost bit me a couple times. She was heavily abused before she was taken to a rescue. She was attacked by a cat and lost her tail, she never had the correct heating, also someone took her from a home in attempt to "rescue" her and ended up making it worse if not just as bad. They put her in a shoe box with play sand and fed her... apples... or tried to. They finally gave her to a LEGIT rescue! Now that I have her, shes been alot more social, still doesn't enjoy being handled but shes been a good girl :) I adore her so much...

love this video, quick tip: being laid-back and chill around your beardie both in and out of the tank is the easiest way to make them comfortable around you, I have a male who's like world champion lazy, doesn't mind being picked up/handled, and only gets mad when I make him wait for food until my other animals are all fed (luckily not enough to lash out or bite).
