Good presentation! Any idea of a weight on all that setup? Appears you lean more towards function then trying to be super lightweight which is a refreshing change from the weight weinies out there.

Will the ticks be a problem with the floorless stone glacier shelter this time of year? Thanks for the video.
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Winston. Sorry, I meant to bring up that I'm carrying the SG tarp, vestibule and the mesh insert. I should have elaborated on that more since all that was in that stuff sack. I'm trying to avoid ticks at all costs and this is one of the main reasons I'm not bringing a floorless shelter this year. Tried it several years ago on spring bear hunts and it wasn't fun to have ticks on you all day hunting, and then find ticks crawling on you at night from an open shelter. What lens are you bringing with your Sony A7RIII?
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Aaron. I'll be using Sony 55mm 1.8 and a Sony G Master 16-35. I'm probably avoiding other lenses due to the weight in my pack. But Neville will probably have a Sony 24-105, and we might see about bringing a Canon 70-200 with as well. That covers a lot of options. Brady Miller goHUNT Digital Content Manager

Care to share how many grains of H1000 you’re using in that load?
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 3 жыл бұрын
Always willing to share and help. But I'll preface it by saying to always work up to ensure it is safe in your rifle. In this gun, I use 77.1 grains of H1000 at 0.010 off the lands with the 215 berger hybrids and I'm getting 2,950 fps. Brady Miller goHUNT Digital Content Manager

I'm wondering if you know your total weight. Also what are you doing for food. Also how many days?
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 3 жыл бұрын
Hey RyLee. Great questions. I haven't put an exact total to it just yet (we are going to do another video on that where we have everything in the pack before we go and hang the packs on a scale), but it should be right around 54 pounds based on my excel sheet I have when I weighed each piece of gear the other week. And that weight includes 2 liters of water. The 54 pounds I mentioned does not include food as I'll be honest, I just haven't had time to put together my food list yet for this hunt, so that is why you don't see it in the video :) This will be a roughly 8-day bear hunt. I'm going to go through my gear again this weekend and see if I can toss anything out. That's why I like doing these early... gives me a great way to check and plan everything. Also, Neville and I might help carry some gear together, so I'm hoping he will volunteer to carry that solar panel since it weighs almost a pound ;) That's the great thing about hunting with friends is sharing the gear to help save some weight. does anyone or yourself Brady use or have tried a suppressor in one of your hunts?
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 3 жыл бұрын
Hey James. Cody Boor in our office uses a suppressor for all his hunts. He is a recent hire at goHUNT and can answer any questions you might have on them for hunting. He is actually going to be using a suppressor on his spring bear hunt this year and we are filming his gear list coming up. But for myself, I have never used them or really looked into them yet. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here and I can have Cody respond directly to this comment. Thanks for checking out the video. Hope you have a great evening. A 15 lbs + rifle??!! Holy crap dude. The legal weight limit in Idaho is 16 lbs. You are barely legal if you hunt there. Between that and the BTX with the 115 mm objective you are carrying 23 lbs.! I mean the BTX I can understand. I don't think it's worth it with the 115 mm objective for a backcountry hunt, but I get it. But a 15 lbs rifle for a backcountry hunt. I definitely don't get that. You could easily cut that in half with a similar quality rifle and optic, bipod, accessories, etc. I'm sure you are tough, but that's just NOT smart dude. Are you getting paid to carry that rifle? I mean, why else would you deliberately CHOOSE to do that? How far are you hiking in? Have you been hit in the head recently? 😂 I seriously want to know why you are choosing to do that...
@GOHUNT
@GOHUNT 3 жыл бұрын
Even after reading that, I know you and I would be great, great friends. You sound just like my friends when I tell them the things I do. Haha! I built this rifle and specifically kept it under 16 pounds just for a hunt I had planned in Idaho last year. I backpacked in solo in 2020 in Idaho on a mule deer hunt further than I have ever before and took this exact same rifle. I took a buck on the middle of the hunt and then spent a few days getting things out of the mountains. Passed up a bear that I wish I wouldn't have just down from where I was hunting... but hey, I had a ton of weight on my back with camp and a fully deboned buck, hide and this rifle and didn't feel like making more leapfrog trips. It's all good... I know I could do something different, build something lighter, but sometimes I just like seeing what is the limit for the things I like to do. I enjoy shooting this rifle. Very much actually. So I really wanted to take it on that hunt. I might have gotten hit on the head on a few hunts back in the day and that could be the reason for some of my crazy things :) I used to pack 10s, 15s, and a 95mm spotting scope. I love a good pair of optics! And while we are talking about heavy weapons, when bowhunting, my complete setup usually weighs around 10 pounds and the last bow setup I took the time to weigh was 10.20 pounds. Love the discussion! If we ever run into each other... I'll buy lunch. Best of luck this season. Brady Miller goHUNT Digital Content Manager

@@GOHUNT Hahaha. THAT was a great response. I'm now thinking about that 10.2 Lbs BOW ???!!!! Dang. I'm seriously starting to run and lift, to drop 15 lbs, just to add a spotting scope. My Tikka Superlight is great, my Hoyt Carbon bow is great..and I, like you, LOVE my Vortex 12 x 50, but I'm hearing you about "you can't hunt what you can't find". Anyway, thank you for the great vid, good luck the food plan and great luck on your hunt!!
@idahotrophyhuntplanners
@idahotrophyhuntplanners 3 жыл бұрын
@@GOHUNT 👍🙏😂 I still think you are crazy but seriously, the thing that makes hunting great is it is all about the individual experience. If a yearly deer camp with your buds "road hunting" is something you enjoy every year, do it! If carrying an extra heavy rifle into the backcountry brings you some kind of sick pleasure 😉🤣, do it and everyone else can suck it! I agree, that was a great response. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Hunting is all about the experience, so as long as it's legal do what you enjoy! BTW I agree with you about optics. It will be very interesting to see if you think the extra weight of the 115 mm objective is worth the weight over the 95 mm. We probably would be great friends because it seems that we are never satisfied (much to my wife's dismay), always looking for an edge, and constantly upgrading gear. It gets spendy $$

Haha! Brady does like to switch things up - he won't be using this rifle on every hunt this year. A really funny part, back in the day people liked to poke fun at how lightweight he was able to get his hunting gear list down to and now he carries more weight in certain areas and he gets the same treatment :) Brady said since he bought the BTX and it hurt his wallet... he will use it everywhere!
