Big props to him for trying on camera! I watch and try this stuff but its different when i do it in front of somebody. Im not any good, and there is added pressure for whatever reason when somebody else is watching or listening. Dirk your calling never ceases to amaze me....those chuckles and grunts are awesome. I sound more like a chimpanzee or something trying to fake it....LOL

I just went into the store in Vegas and Paul taught me how to bugle like a champ. He’s taken all these lessons from Dirk and is now one of the best Elk callers I’ve ever heard. Way to go Dirk. Helluva teacher. And thanks Paul. The student becomes the instructor. The way his ‘stache gloriously flows out of the way as that metal bugle tube approaches his lips is just pure majesty. It was like Moses parting the furry Red Sea.

I've watched a lot of elk calling videos over the years. Rocky Jacobson's videos got me started, but Durk has mastered the simplest and most effective way to teach this.

It's no easy task that's for sure. As Dirk mentioned in the video, consistent practice is going to be the key to figuring things out! Also, don't hesitate to watch the video a couple times, being sure to catch all of the little tips Dirk has to offer. Good luck to you and please reach out with any other questions!

This was very informative and I appreciate that. Quick question, that may be slightly off topic. Is calling useful for late hunts outside of the rut?
@GOHUNT2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video! We passed your question along to Trail since he is one of our biggest Elk guys around the office. Here's what he had to say... "In my opinion, generally no, calling late season is probably not effective. I have heard bulls bugle in late Oct and Nov but I can't say I have ever heard of someone calling a bull in that late. You could use a cow call to see if you can illicit a response from a bull late, but typically no I don't think calling is effective generally during late-season hunts. At that stage, it's mostly covering ground and glassing and more glassing" Hope this helps you out!
@Ranger_k162 жыл бұрын
@@GOHUNT thank you so much for the fast and detailed response. This really helps me figure out a game plan.
@stalker7892 Жыл бұрын
What they're telling you is true. But! The fact that you can even get a bull to bugle, which you can in later season, gives you the edge in locating them. I've done it myself here in Colorado. You may not want to be too aggresive.
