The CSI REDEEMER CHURCH, Annanagar, Chennai, India has traditionally been blessed with quality choral music since its beginning 47 years ago. The choir is fundamentally one of the fellowships of the church responsible for the music ministry of the church.
The last decade saw the maturing of the choir to a well balanced and consistent choir rendering Christmas and Passion concerts in the church every year. This year too the choir rendered Handel’s Messiah Part I and hence the concert was titled “MESSIAH”. The choir has been rendering the concerts with the help of a strings orchestra led by Mr. Jerry Fernandes. This year the piano accompanist was the home grown 11th grade Hannah Jane, who has completed her 8th grade in Trinity College of Music, London.
The choir consists of about 50 choristers, all of whom belong to the church. The conductor Mr. Emmanuel Ponraj has been wielding the baton for over 20 years and is chiefly instrumental for the development of the choir into one of the best in the city of Chennai. The concert also consists of songs by the Kids and Junior Choirs.
The soloists in this year’s Messiah are:
Soprano : Linda Catherine and Rebecah Emmanuel
Alto: Divya Esther, Carola Winnie and Joanna Joshua
Tenor: Vijai Desikan
Bass: Allan Samuel
