My partner is similar, quit school after 1 semester. She's so bright, was the valedictorian of her high school, but just had too much going on in her personal life at the time... we are both stuck in the work/bills hole, I hope someday she'll be able to pursue the education that she deserves. I just turned 24 and I feel like I totally wasted my past 5 years. I want to go to uni later this year but I can´t leave this massive anxiety about me having wasted so many years. Similar situation with me. I got back in college last year, only 4 subjects, I only passed 2, but I was close to pass the other 2, but I lacked focus in the last few days before their exams. Thankfully, a few months before I got back in college, a couple friends of mine convinced me quite bluntly, althoght in a fair way, to start having calls with a psicologist. Still a lot to do, but I'm quite suspicious that I would have taken the 2 out of 4 subjects approved thing way worse a year or two before, so there's that. It's about Computer Engineering, and I lacked (and still lack) a study rutine, but I think I'm slowly getting into the mindset to be able to do it. I dailed back to only 1 hour per day the use of social media (it's mainly to dail back Twitter usage, but I also limit into that hour/day the usage of Reddit, Instagram or Facebook). My objectives next course/year is: 1) to pass 6 subjects; 2) made my mind clear, or at least get closer to that, in regards of my real interest in this career, so then I could be sure if I should keep in CS or change to another career, for instance economics; and 3) test how far can I go regarding studying perfomance/improvement with a better mindset and less social media usage.

I went back at 25 also, 29 now. I went back for my EMT Cert, didnt like it so I started taking my Gen Eds while slowly getting back into the routine of working and studying. I finished at my local Comm. College and was accepted to a major 4 yr Uni. Ill be 30 before I graduate, but going back was the best decision I ever made! Not having kids young helped me a lot also.

I went to my local CC, got my associates in science and proudly went on to receive my B.S in Wildlife Biology and I'm currently working full time in my field. I’m turning 24 in April. I took a two year gap after being in school for a year and a half and went back to community college and finished my associate’s degree December 2019. I decided I was just going to work and not continue school, also bc I was starting to lose passion for what I had studied for. Now that I’m working in that field I knew for sure I don’t want to keep going with that field. Then I started thinking of things that interested me and I’m going to go to university for the first time hopefully next spring (2021) if not sooner. I think I found the major that I love ❤️ I wish you all good luck! I’m thankful this was in my recommendations. I suffered from a traumatic brain injury from my motorcycle crash in April of 2014. I was 19 and a freshman in college at the time. I’m now 27 still working on my recovery, 8 years post brain injury. Having a brain injury is really tough. Ironically, l was going to school to be a physical therapist. I’m now looking into being an athletic trainer and a pharmacist. We’re living in a time where anything’s possible. Don’t compare yourself. Don’t compare yourself and go at your own pace. Everyone’s on their own journey. If you’re on the right path, keep going.

I’m an art student. Like the rest of the world, I did not take school seriously in my late teens. I shifted to 3 different courses and earned my associates degree at 20. Just so I can say that I have a degree. feeling old could be stress or vitamin D deficiency. But I doubt the latter and think its the former. There are ways to combat the energy draining effects of stress. Exercise is one way but your diet is an other. Start drinking tea or drink more tea. Have a weekly exercise routine. Eat smaller high frequency meals. Sleep is a privilege a lot of us don't have but obviously, get more sleep; 7 - 9 hours. That's it! LOL

I'd like to truly understand, can you really look a certain age? I'm 31 and I get taken for 18 more often than I like. If this trend continues, I'm going to be 60 and I'll look like I'm 30 (maybe), Is that 30 year old face define my age? I've literally gone to liquor stores and people tried denying me my right to buy alcohol which drinking alcohol will eventually make me look older than I am anyways (I guess).

Figuring out life is a lifelong thing. I’m 21 and am finally able to go back to school for software engineering. I was raised by a single mother on a teachers income and couldn’t afford college out of HS even with scholarships. As so I got a job as a full time server at a restaurante within walking distance to save up enough for a college and car and now I finally have enough for both. I've struggled with feeling so behind in life - after being such an overachiever throughout all of school. I graduated with a bachelor's in psychology immediately after college and it got me nowhere. I went through a training program to be a dental assistant after co-vid took my then retail management position. Now, I work full time as a dental assistant (which is a certificate training program you don't have to have finished high school for) and going back at 26 in the fall to be a dental hygienist (an associate's level program). I was in a similar spot a while back. It all seemed daunting but I knew my reality at the time was not one I was comfortable with for the rest of my life so that became my drive, my reason, my why. Yes it may take many years but time flies. Keep one foot in front of the other and you will come out on the other side. As far as where to begin, apply to your local community college. You will likely have to take a placement test to assess your math and english skills. See a counselor from there to map out your college journey and know that it is okay to deviate from it a little as long as you are continually moving forward. Visit your counselors often they are very helpful! Best of luck to you. You can do it!!

Im so happy I found this video. Droped out of collage at 20 becouse of depression and due to financial issues, still cant forgive myself for that. Moved away to Austria, then Germany, married in the mean time. My husbend is finishing collage next year, I plan on starting over as soon as he finishes - that was kinda of our deal , since he has the citizenship its just easier for him to get in to collage and he as a man and a citizen will make more money so that was our strategy. I’m 25 and last year I went back to school part time doing the science prerequisites to apply for a biology major, now I’m doing it full time !! so I’ll be starting at 26 or 27 (in Quebec, there’s a 2 year school after high school before a 3 or 4 year bachelor degree). Like you, I didn’t take my studies seriously after high school because I just wasn’t motivated by it and I failed enough classes to get kicked out. I would do well in classes where I loved the teacher and fail the ones I found boring. This made me doubt myself and installed the fear in me that I couldn’t be smart enough to study in STEM. I was always so interested in nature and biology was my goal after high school but I got lost along the way and I still think it’s for the best. My parents both dropped out of school, travelled, had kids and went back to school in their 20’s and I still felt like a failure at first !! I needed to experience life for myself before I could end up here and I see it now. Going back to school older also made me understand my challenges better... and I ended up going through the process of getting diagnosed with ADHD. With medication, therapy and accommodations I’m THRIVING. Instead of feeling inadequate and like I’m fighting myself, I know my strengths and work with them. I searched KZbin for a video like this and I’m glad I found yours. I wanted to hear about someone else’s experience for tips or guidance but this ended up feeling like a big hug of validation, thank you :)

I was just sitting at home doing nothing, thinking that this is how my life's gonna be. But you let me see the world and my life in a different way. I will be applying to medical school this year because that's what I want to do. I was scared before that people will judge me if I go back to college. I went to college right out of HS and then had to stop when my mom got sick and I later went back when I was 34 years old and I absolutely loved it! It was the best decision I could have ever med and now in my mid-40s I'm working on my graduate studies and getting some professional certificates to add to my resume. Hello Lorraine! Your story is strikingly similar to mine and you motivated hundreds of beautiful souls as it appears from your comment section. Failed at High school at 17. Dropped from engineering at 20. Got an Associate's Degree at 24 in hospitality to get jobs and draw paychecks to make a living. At 27 last year resigned from my job to focus and work hard an clear my pending high school with 1st division because it's essential here in India to enter an undergraduate school. I'm 28 now and enrolled in Bachelor's of Arts (Honours) Political Science. By the time I earn my Bachelor's I'll be 31 and I'm absolutely loving it. I also assure you, Bachelor's shall not be the end. I yearn to be a lawyer right after grad school, and now that I'm once again ready to enter into a job to save for Law School from now itself by pursuing both together. I've accepted the challenge of juggling between job and studies as a matured non-traditional student who had experienced life because it happened with its own terms and conditions and pace. However, no matter what beginings we all have, making the best out of our lives is still left upon us by overcoming all the setbacks. More power to you lady and everyone who's reading this, 🔥🔥🔥"Never settle, always hustle", because it makes us realise constantly that we're alive and ready to conquer our deepest pains.

First things first, thank you for such a thoughtful and well-put video..it was very reassuring for me. I decided to go back to school and I'm starting this fall at the age of 25. I dropped out of college at 19 (full tuition and everything smh) because I didn't know what I wanted and just wasn't happy. I never had a 5 or 10-year plan...I was just frivolous and "going with the flow"..not very serious. I'm disappointed in myself for not going to University at 18, but I was surrounded by influences who saw no value in education. They expected people to work crappy jobs or go into the trades (thanks to my mother for knowing better and pushing me to university). At 23 after a string of crappy jobs...you know the ones. I went back to university and graduated at 28. Now I'm starting my Masters in September and will be done at 30. It was the best decision I ever made, for so so many reasons. Now my plan is to work a couple of years after my masters, then go to law school and start off on my life career at 35. So So many opportunities on the horizon for me. self employed Lawyer, Museum work/administration, University teacher, policy analyst work, legal counsel, antiquities law. I will even have a thesis and a couple of book credits under my belt. it feels endless and boundless. For anybody who is considering university, DO IT and do what you like and what your dream is. I did a degree in classics, it's not a waste of time. You gain so many skills and opportunities. Or you could study economics and then go to med school. The world is your oyster. Trust me!

At age 29 about 2 years ago while I was living the van life (broke down in las Vegas w/ my 6 month old) I figured why not just apply to UNLV and see what happens. I was accepted into the computer science program so I decided to move into an apartment and get rid of my camper van. Almost overnight due to a series of unfortunate events I went from living the nomadic life to being a productive member of society (something I said I'd never do! lol). It's been 2 years and I'm now a junior about halfway done. In the beginning I was so far behind in math I needed 4 math classes to even start Calculus (entry point for all engineering degrees at the university level). I gave up my super relaxed lifestyle for the sake of my son and never looked back. I've grinded the past 6 semesters str8 into the past 2 summers with no breaks. I could never have imagined I'd be able to complete Calc 1/2, physics 180/181, and CS 1/2 with such high grades. I agree that going to school later in life is the best decision one could make. I would have never made it in my teens and for me it took this long to see the utility in a higher education. Keep up the great work; It's so great to hear your story! To anyone thinking of going back to school all I can say is that if you have to take on the debt just look at it as an investment In yourself which is something you cant put a price on. Besides as long as you do well for a few semesters you will likely get scholarships. I don't even pay for school anymore after being awarded grants for good grades I come out every semester making money tbh. Never be scared to invest in yourself; you're well worth it!

I am 21 now. Soon will be 22. I have completed my Bachelor's a year ago. In our family and in the society which I am a part of, one can instantly sense and imbibe the misconception about higher education as something not worth it. Being a part of this culture with a desire to learn further is extremely difficult for me. Your perspective is really insightful. I just turned 27 and I’ve been in my current career as a Landscape Designer for going on 2 years, but it doesn’t quite feel like the right long term goal. I got my BS in Applied Math, but I knew the whole time that math isn’t what I wanted to do, so I pursued other classes in architecture and pieced it together to get where I am now. I’ve been seriously debating going back to school for a Masters in Restoration Ecology or something along those lines, but I’m anxious about whether that’s actually the right decision, or if maybe instead I should pursue some sort of certificate.. Still unsure and trying to find advice where I can.

I got ill when I turned 15 and it made year 11 my Gcse year very challenging. I got the grades I needed in the end and tried my hand at college. The illness I was talking about was anxiety. It destroyed me and still does. I only lasted 4 days. This was in 2018, I was 16 years old and because I was too ill to attend college all I could think about every passing year 2019, 2020, 2021 was how much further behind everyone else I was getting. It still bothers me now and has generated so much insecurities. It feels like a parasite coursing through my veins. Here we are now in 2024 and I've found work in childcare as a bank staff. It's certainly something I don't want to do forever, but at least it's consistent work. To tell you the truth I have literally no idea what I want to do. I'm 21, turning 22 this year with minimal qualifications and I don't really have a plan or an idea for the future. I'm extremely lost!

Financial aid, if you haven't used it all..to my knowledge, covers tuition for all 4 years. I spent 1 year in community college and two years at a university.
