Moral of the story: everyone is different. College is NOT for everyone. People suffer from mental illness and family issues. You never know what someone has to go home to. Never judge someone based off of their education. Edit: I’m glad people understand me and liked my comment, I suffer from depression and doing anything is exhausting, especially school. I want people to know you don’t need college or extra education to represent yourself in your own beautiful way, no matter what anyone says, you do you, your life is your life.

Some of the most intelligent and wise people I met in my life were drop-outs. They usually have deep life experiences and have an extremely hard work ethic. But I also agree if you have a chance to go college, you should go and do it. Basically some people believe college is something absolutely necessary and if you don't it, you're failure, these people are not wise and narrow minded, life is too varied and complicated to set every decision in black and white, there's a lot of unpredictable gray area.

Before I dropped out, My father gave me two choices. 1. Drop out - get a job - grow up fast (I was 16) 2. Stay in school - go to a catch up school even though you're smarter then that I chose option 1 and for the longest time, I was looked down on by friends, teachers, and even my own family. I had words thrown to me by my little and older sister for not finishing school, my Father always bagged on me to get a job and my mother didn't say she was proud of me anymore. I was hounded harshly by many people, and I remember one of my teachers saying "You will regret this" That went on for a year and it was constant. I'm successful, I live alone in my own apartment in a fancy place with a very nice job. And I have to say, the education system can teach you all about math, science, LA, and history. In the end, it never taught me how to do taxes, that was my father. It never taught me how to be a kind soul and get up to get to work on time, that was my mother and father. It never taught me how brutal the real world was, that was my little and older sister and ex friends. It never taught me skills that prove that I'm smart, that was my 13 years of IT Experience with my father. Education is important to prove worth, but it will never teach you to survive. And surviving is a very lucky affair only some people have made it through. The education system adds stress, depression, anxiety, etc. Those years of our lives that we're pressured to do these things we'll never get back.

As a society, we need to get rid of the stigma that surrounds manual labor jobs. People tell you throughout life that if you don't go to college you are going to end up as a construction worker, plumber, or electrician. They say it like it is a bad thing. I quit college the 2nd day. I feared being habitual. I looked around the room and everyone looked lifeless. I roamed the hallways and found myself straying from the crowds. I went home and cried and screamed. I told myself that I wouldn't become successful by learning in a classroom setting. I am now traveling and writing stories while experiencing the entire world which is definitely not a classroom. A degree at harvard isn't valuable because you pay boatload so fmoney for it, its valuable because of the faculty and stantards of the college. At the same time i dont think the pricse you pay for college correlate with its quality. Theres plenty of very quality education in the rest of the world that isnt made less valuable because of its price. I didnt agree with in the video and dont agree with it now, if everyone went to college college wouldnt be useless. I jsut dont think college should be seen as a "prestige stamp" to put on your resumée. Besides, the different colelges owuld always be differently ranked and you would sitll get that prestige stamp. College is best seen as a tool to help you achieve what you want, if more people saw it like that instead of "i need that degree to achieve x" i think they would have a much better attitude in regards to their education (not that i know how people view college in the US, but i dont think making it cheaper would decrease its value whatsoever)

Bruhmindyourbusiness k I respect your opinion but what you are saying is false. stay at home mothers work just as hard as those with a job, just because you don’t have a traditional job doesn’t mean you are lazy and don’t work hard. my mom worked and had a well paying job for years before she decided to quit and become a stay at home mom and it was honestly so much more beneficial for me. I had a much better bond with my mom than a lot of the kids that i was friends with, they were going through terrible things but didn’t have anyone to call on or protect them because their mom was never there for them, always working. having a mom that guided me along the way and was with me when i went through stuff helped me to end up more stable. also, there’s so many aspects that come to play in being a stay at home mom, they handle ALL of the family related things that keep everyone in the house going (excluding the financial aspect), they don’t just sit around and watch tv, they take care of majority of the responsibilities that no one else is willing to do. a lot of people seem to forget that being there for your kids emotionally and physically is more important than being able to buy them nice clothes, just giving your kids material things is not being a mother. however i do have major respect for woman that handle both being a mom and working a job to make money, i think that is real hardwork too.

Historically, employers will keep upping the educational anty to eliminate applicants. So, instead of a BA, now we all need MA's. It is happening and will continue to happen. Just my only true advice is try not to sit around at home even if you quit college. you can't find what you want to do if you don't go out there and try different jobs. "if everybody went to college it would become useless" -- this is actually a really simple question with a really simple answer. Lol. It's about supply and demand. One of the reasons getting a job after school is so difficult now, is because there is an oversaturation of degrees. Therefore, it becomes more competitive to be hired with a degree. So yes, if everyone goes to college without more college level positions becoming available simultaneously, a degree indeed becomes useless for most people. It's that simple.

I don't know if it is true, but thats how I always looked at it, the more degrees, the more filled up spaces, so then you'd have to go to graduate school and its just more debt, my mom always said university teaches you how to gain a perspective but most people that do go to university around me don't think similar to what I do. The main purpose is to get a job that pays well, but there are so many jobs out there that pay well, so I mostly think it's a social status and I think it's ridiculous. But if people do know what they would like to do with college being a requirement that is awesome, but I think almost to everyone don't know WHY they go to college and they choose a job that "inspires" them thinking only college will guide them there but there's so much to life than just university being the requirement to "succeed".

I went to college for just one semester before I ended up dropping out. The reason I went to college was because of my parents who told me I should go like my sister, but after just one semester, I hated it realizing it wasn't for me. Right now, I'm just looking for a part time job to help my family, but no luck, even though my parents haven't said anything I still feel like I disappointed them. My parents only want what's best for me, but I don't even know what I want to do with my life. I even worry if I can take care of myself if I move out, buying a house, paying bills, finding a job, etc. Hopefully I will find a path that will lead me to a successful or happy life.

Meaning to first enter the workforce, explore your different options in jobs and then once when you found the specific job you like , you can then pursue a college degree . (Again it’s just a matter of a personal choice as to which one you feel is best for you and as well as if the career your looking for requires a college degree or not )

The thing about college is education isn’t enough. You have to make connections with people. You never know if your best friend will become the next CEO and they can hire you. Maybe they get a job and they manage to help you get a job in the same place too. Perhaps colleges have resources like the job center to help you find a path. Like during my education class back when I wanted to be a teacher (plans have changed), my professor was the principal of the school. He told me to contact him for a job once I’m done. Internships are also important! You gain experience and sometimes they will hire you. Unfortunately, where I live you can’t do internships without proving you’re pursuing a major. 😔

jcast39 that’s true. Let’s take a look at computer science. There are mainly 3 paths: boot camp, self tought, and college. Having that degree makes you so much more competetive than others because companies trust the colleges and know that their education will get you prepared and it’s what they are looking for. It’s definitely possible to get a job through other ways but you already have an advantage with college. Plus it’s easier to get internships with colleges and build up that resume.

I really want to drop out because I feel like I started college on the wrong foot and I really want to start over later, that way i can give 100% of my time into college and my career without feeling like I planned wrong. The thing is that I really didn’t know what to do after high school so college was the only thing to keep me busy but now that im in my third year ik that I planned very poorly going into college. And I’d go back to college later in life if I were to drop out now (that is my plan as of now). The scariest part is the stigma around college dropouts especially by your own family.

“If everyone went in college it would be useless” - that what happened in my native contry. Russia. Every cashier and potter has a bachelor degree in something.

But then they would be a smart cashier and Potter who would have at least some basic scientific literacy... Comparing that with ppl who don't know anything but think they are a know it all, I would take the 1st choice

Kyle Hudsons, i agree with you. But there is a big difference between educated person and person that went to college.

Our universities are not the same . And there are universities that mean nothing but theoretically yeah you have a degree. But if you compare different universities the education they give you is not the same. That's the difference . Everybody can have a degree but in what and where ? That matters

I agree to an extent. Going to college doesn't mean you learned a skill or even finish, at the least you went through general studies which is the first hurdle. Ppl will always drop out and only learn college isn't for them before they get to what's relevant to them.

I am glad to see middle ground back, but I would have liked to see a little more age diversity with this one. I think there would have been a better discussion if there was one older person on each side.

what? How many old geezers do you think are still in fucking college/university? They don't understand us.

Logan R. Firstly, this is graduates and dropouts. Plenty of older people have graduated or dropped out of college in the past. Also there are older people who go to college. It is not just for young people. Secondly, I didn't say it had to be "old geezers". I said "older", meaning not just people in their 20's. You can learn a lot from older people if you are respectful and listen to what they have to say. Thirdly, I do agree that the elderly usually don't understand younger generations, but that doesn't mean they don't have anything good to say and teach us. They grew up in different situations and the world was a lot different back then. Their experience in life gives them wisdom that can be passed on and they have a different perspective that might give insight into things younger people probably don't know about. You shouldn't dismiss the elderly just because they think differently and don't understand you. Maybe the elderly and young people should try to understand each other more. Finally, middle ground is supposed to bring people who disagree together for a discussion. Maybe there should be an episode with elderly and millennials.

One year of college at 18, back in college at 36 and graduated at 38. Started a wonderful career afterward but thankful for it all - college and non-college experiences! Grand adventures are a state of mind ✨️

kate it’s because all of them saw where each one was coming from. I do believe that young folks tend to have a easier time seeing people point of view compared to the elders.

The difference here isn't in going to college or not, what makes an actual difference is you, a hard working man will succeed with or without a college degree, the degree will just change his successful path to another successful path. That what I think at least.
