I lived in NYC for 1 year for a job and there's no comparison. In NYC, you're essentially stuck inside 3 to 6 months out of the year - that's no way to live. I can never live like that. LA sucks as well cuz you have to drive everywhere and traffic is horrible. My perfect compromise is San Francisco bay area. It's got the weather, high tech, surfing (which I love), and traffic is bad - but only during rush hours. Not 24X7 like LA. But only downside is the cost of housing. As they say, only good thing about housing prices in San Francisco is that they make NYC look cheap. They're all expensive but SF bay area is the most expensive.
