Why do you work your thumb side to side when reeling in?? Doesn't it wind up correctly by itself?

The reels I have don't have a levelwind that's why I have to use my thumb. The levelwind mechanism can affect casting distance. Thanks for the comment. Tight lines Louie

I was out there Friday and Saturday around 15MM the seaweed was horrible! Looks like it’s cleared out.
