I bought the original UTB 18 and converted it to 4WS, and parts were much more than 30 bucks, so it's definitely a solid value in that regard.

I have multiple scale crawlers and I just bought a cr18p evo pro brushless. The Furitek combo is just awesome and the servo is strong. It even got 2 speed transmission! All that pkg for 200$ I was all in for this new utb18 but too much upgrade is needed to make it good for me. I will keep my money and build another 1/10 lcg. The VRD carbon is next in line on the bench.

On the 2WS UtB18, the 50%, 75%, 100% setting on the remote help with crawl speed on 50%. Then can lunge on 100% but You have to trigger in opposite direction to get any drag brake.

Great review! I agree that the crawling speed is way too fast and $280...there are a lot of good options in that range. Especially if it's a gift for a new driver, I'd probably go with the original 2WS.
@Br0rBАй бұрын
Not to take away from your excellent video, but the video description is where it's at. Rambling ftw! :D I was lucky enough to get my standard UTB18 used for very cheap, and in near new condition. Since then it has been one of my favorite rigs. It is really capable right out the box, and even better with some upgrades. I feel the biggest issue with it, other than the misleading name (it's more like a UTB12), is the price. Where I live, in Norway, they're around 300 bucks for the normal one, and I imagine the four wheel steer one will be at least another 50 bucks. Regardless of how nice and fun it is, and it is really, really nice, it's just too expensive. I can almost build a really decent 10th scale for that kind of money. The good thing is, you can run it without really doing much to it, and still have an awesome time, but who does that? I know I can't leave these things alone... Mine, with a cheap brushless outrunner setup, AM32 ESC, better servo, some brass, overdrive and better wheels and tires (and some bespoke 3D printed inserts) can pretty much do 10th scale lines, which is pretty awesome. :)

I like Axial. This is a neat little truck. I'm just totally over the mini craze. If this was scx6 sized they'd have my money. I'm done buying based on value. I have more fun with large scale rigs and I'm keeping my current rigs and money until they start building new big stuff. 1/7 minimum, 1/5 preferred. Arrma 5th scale, not Raminator 5th scale. Those are cool but are victim to their gimmick. Value isn't of greatest importance but durability is.

I knew they were gonna do this, I even guessed it as a new release in your video about how many new releases we'd have. Now I just gotta figure out if I should just buy one or just buy the electronics to make my fox 2wd one a 4ws instead like I had originally wanted to do, already have the extra steer axle and servo, it was figuring our new electronics had me a bit intimidated because I don't really ever mess with them. Would love to see an actual comparison video of the two utb18 versions and see what is exactly compatible and what might not be.

Looks good. I’m more of a truck guy. I like my Capra but it doesn’t see a lot of use. If anything, I would buy this for my daughter. She is getting quite good at driving her Yeti Jr. but I’m not sure she is ready for a 1/10 vehicle yet. She likes our SCX24s and would probably like crawling with the UTB18 4WS. Questions: Are there aftermarket gears available (underdrive for example)? Would a low profile servo fix the chassis interference?
@jamesn.449Ай бұрын
@@rcstories_ca dlux makes over and under drive, as well as TReal. Axial has a 6% overdrive no underdrive tho. Team garage hack sells machined transmission gears. I have axial's OD gear in a couple of mine. I'm thinking about getting Dlux's underdrive set to pair with my more compy rig.

Funnily, I'd love both the smaller scale and 4ws but I was so disappointed by the driving characteristics and quality of the 1/10 base camp that I'm put off from the UTB18 even with the new hobbywing 380 2in1 becoming available
@yodapigАй бұрын
fwiw. I have three Capras (all custom builds on the 1/10th cage set) - all very different, but fundamentally all using regular RC4WD and SCX10 II width axles rather than the overly wide 'Wraith' width axles you get on the 1/10 RTRs. That basically gives you the same track width as this 1/18 version, but with the robustness of the full size chassis and components/motor etc.
@Griller1977Ай бұрын
Lol, that's not a mini Capra, that's a giant AX24 down to the ESC not having low speed control. Exact same stupid controls with no rear only option too. That being said, I love that size and will likely get one at some point with the plan to brushless swap it and give it a better transmitter.

Since this has the spektrum smart plug, you'll need a charger compatible with that system (likely only spektrum brand). So you can use different chargers, but not just any charger. You could just get some different packs though, and that would be my suggestion.

I don’t know if I would ever build off this platform ? I doubt it unless it was to build a 1/10 scale Suzuki 4x4 . Give me time to think about it.? The width of the axles could make it an option? Price wise it is not logical to use it as a platform to build from. But hey when did logic ever stop anyone who sets their mind to something.
@yodapigАй бұрын
These components are bigger than you think - the axles are basically as wide as a regular 1/10th 'scale' truck (the 1/10 Capra had even wider Wraith width axles) - so they would be like fitting an MST axle or RC4WD Yota II axle, albeit these are portals of course.
