Hi, completely unrelated question but what is the difference between guiding and forward momentum pull? I’ve been trying to train my SDiT to do guide work but I wasn’t sure if she should be pulling me or if she should just be walking and I follow her. I’m just very afraid of hurting her because she is still a puppy. She will learn forward momentum when she is older but right now she is too young, and I was just hoping you could help give some insight into the difference.

guidework is where the dog is actually guiding you around things, to certain places (seats, exits etc) and forward momentum pull is where the dog is using his weight to pull you forwards, for example someone who struggles to keep walking. when guiding, the dog isnt dragging you but they are slightly pulling, but when teaching a dog under 24 months you shouldnt be having them pull you, you can teach them to walk slightly ahead of you and teach guiding things like walking around objects, taking you to an exit etc!

@@siriusly.working5866 Sounds like me and my horse - not technically mine (at least not yet - her owners have told me that once I get a couple riding students, they might consider selling her to me), but I've put more work into her over the last 9 years (she's 12) than anyone else ever has, and she definitely thinks she's mine. This video was actually super helpful for me, since an SD is in my future (I'm in the application process right now, since raising a puppy/owner training/professional trainer isn't an option for me) - I'd love to see more videos from/about riding with an SD, since mine would be coming with me, too (except maybe during the worst of tick season).
