The last ever episode of Father Ted was bittersweet. It's sad that it was the last one and Dermot Morgan passed away the day after filming was completed. Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews decided Series 3 was to be the last because they ran out of ideas and they felt there was nothing more they could do with the characters and Dermot Morgan decided to leave to do other acting roles. Tommy Tiernan was fantastic as the suicidal depressive priest Father Kevin and his acting in the Radiohead scene was brilliant. The ending was sad when Ted gets off the plane and decides not to go to America and Dougal tells Ted that he'll stay on Craggy Island forever. The saddest thing about it - Dermot Morgan dying. Father Ted was a groundbreaking Irish sitcom.
@bofflethewaffle25 күн бұрын
Apparently the original ending involved Father Ted being on the ledge that Kevin was threatening to jump off at the start of the episode but after Morgan's death it was changed to a montage in his honor instead.

The reason why it ended was not because Dermot Morgan died. Graham and Arthur decided Series 3 was to be the final season because they felt there was nothing more they could with it and with the characters and Dermot decided to leave because he wanted to move on and do other acting roles.

The writing of that show was top-notch, some scenes brought out the sincerest, most heart-warming and comedic moments I ever watched in a sitcom. That lovely horse song alone deserves an award. Let's not forget that scene on the plane 24:41 LOL how on earth did they come up with that painting. I can't imagine anyone else carrying the role of Father Ted. it's like the character was only written for Dermot Morgan to play, and all of the characters writing and interaction gave me such warmth and a mission to visit Ireland one day. How is this show not as popular as friends is beyond me. I never knew about this show existence till a short youtube video for ''I hear you're racist now, father;'' bit, and I am so grateful for the youtube algorithm.

The opening evokes so many nostalgic feelings with its music. It's like I'm back at my grandmother's house and she's watching some Mass on the TV. For me this is the best comedy series of all time, all the cast is so spcecial and talented, It just good jokes all the time in all episodes. I have a hard time wrapping my head around that Dermot, a human being with an amazing personality, was reduced to a pile of ashes very shortly after this was recorded.
