As someone who rides horses, I think that Shadow of the Colossus has the best-feeling horseback riding of any video game. It's just that right amount of needing to keep on your horse about directions you need to give her and her moving automatically because she's an actual animal. Way too many video game horses just feel like vehicles, and that's extremely unsatisfying.
@kathylennerds750Ай бұрын
Ive never played SotC so I cant say how it compares but I do think Red Dead Redemption 2 is pretty good as well ! Ive straight up stopped playing games before because the horse riding didnt feel good enough (the witcher 3 my behated…)
@sarahtheviking3993Ай бұрын
@@kathylennerds750Having replayed it recently, I totally get it... but I'll always have a weird sentimental appreciation for the fact that Roach would autopilot to follow roads as long as you held down the run button. My oldest child was only about 3-6 months old when I played thru it for the first time, and there were many a night when the only thing that would get him to settle down to sleep was a long run thru the countryside (usually a 60/40 split between Toussaint and Skellige, as far as ambiance was concerned).

55:04 if YOU want to read this: In March of 1965, the town of Silent Hill was visited by the Maine Psychical Research Association. After thorough examination, a team of expert dowsers from the Association concluded the area surrounding the now-historic Wiltse Coal Mine to be "highly active". They also expressed their hopes for further research and exploration of the gorge. These hopes, however, were never fulfilled due to the location being restricted as a historic nature preserve, as declared by the Silent Hill Historical Society. Additionally, the idea was met with resistance from the local community, which claimed that the nature of the Association's research would hinder tourist activity in the area. "Questioning the credibility of our research and hiding behind day-trippers seems like an excuse to prevent us from seeing what's really out there," commented one of the researchers. Unfortunately, none of the local representatives were available to comment on the matter. Editor's note: At the time of publishing, there exist no evidence supporting credibility of radiesthesia, or proving effectiveness of any dowsing methods. Opinions expressed in the article do not reflect the author's views.

In response to the whole "game makes you walk slow sometimes" discussion, I've absolutely been feeling this. I just played FFVII Remake for the first time (and I am someone who, when playing a game, always has the sprint button held down whenever possible) And in that game, they will really just make you walk slow sometimes or stop moving altogether outside of cutscenes. And those parts are when I really notice how amazing the world looks, how lived-in and real Midgar feels, how the NPCs always have new yet relevant dialogue. Like are they maybe just sneaking in a cheeky load screen? Sometimes. But mostly it's intentional to make the world real and even though I wanna go fast, I sometimes need the devs to tell me to sit still and appreciate what they made 😂 and I always am happier for it.
@M.DaturaАй бұрын
I'm similar, and have tried a touch of game development (on my own), and limiting the speed is such an effective way of forcing the pace. You CAN walk slow through most sequences in most games, but most people don't. Also, I'm always upset with people for considering "they're hiding a loading screen!" to be a bad thing! Like, how privileged a person has to be to think that they can have the hardware to run a thing that has no loading. Loading in games is like seams in clothing - they're there for a reason, they're most of the time entirely neccessary, often structural, and yet, "no seams" is the preferred thing and anything that doesn't aspire to that is somehow worth less, and gods forbid if a "hidden" one is discovered!
@titaniumvulpesАй бұрын
There's a section in FFXIV at the end of the Endwalker expansion that forces you to walk (End... walker... haha) in one of the single more emotionally devastating moments a game has ever delivered. They could have made that a cutscene but they fully made you manually slow walk across the map in an instanced area with no other players. They said "You're all alone, and you won't get there fast, but _you_ have to get there, and you _have_ to win."

@@titaniumvulpes I haven't played that, but the description reminds me of the post Haven scene in DA:I. That one had a really big effect on me because I've actually walked through a snowstorm, knowing full well that if I didn't get to the car within the next like hour, I'd probably freeze to death. The forced slow walk at atmospheric, contextually meaningful points in game simply cannot be beat. People who find it annoying don't comprehend them, it's that simple.

Jeez it's... cold outside. I fell asleep listening to you playing, and I dreamed that I was running around in 3rd person as your character, I think I was still hearing your voices in my dream, but we were running through some splaying interlinking tunnels, like caves through rock or something, and on the floor were a bunch of three headed snakes, their heads on three necks, they... their necks joined together into one tail where they reached the ground. They were all slithering towards us, all of them chasing us, but it was okay as long as we kept moving because they don't slither very quickly and there are big gaps between each snake. But different paths, deeper paths through the tunnels would have more snakes, they'd get harder to avoid because of that, so steadily the experience of running my body around in the caves between snakes shifted from feeling jokey and airy into feeling more intense, more frightening, focused and afraid, because the difficulty was rising and I don't know that they wouldn't have hurt me if they struck me. I've been bitten by snakes before so I know what it feels like, it's so quick and startling. Then a BWARK woke me up, my fully blind deaf super old weak dog barked to ask me to take her outside, I was so tired and afraid from my dream, and my dog makes me so sad for her now, and it's horribly cold outside, this was rough, I tell you.

Before I even watched the video, I looked at the thumbnail and wasn't sure if it was Julia's whole self or just her head on the protagonist's body. She just dresses like 'looking for my wife in horror town' game protagonist on the daily.

A character assuming someone's recognized them because they're a fan then it turns out nope sounds like something from a well-regarded BBC comedy where the humor's all based on awkwardness i wouldn't watch because it'd give me anxiety. That made me cry "oh nooooo" to hear.

That song was equally good and surprising to me. I was, and idk why, but I was expecting some chill, vaporwavey thing. Then BAM to my face with this early TOOL, rocking, kinda headbanging tune?! Wowed and pleased. 👏

Ohhh is that why I like it? His other stuff is cool but not my normal speed. This one got some head bobbing from me

Every time we get a new song I'm genuinely so drawn in and excited, and this might be my favorite yet!

How is Julia not *terrified* every time she just moves on past the horrifying creatures and they get louder and squirm and the radio screams as she just casually strolls past not even bothering to look at them as they approach

It will never not be funny that there's a real meal replacement supplement called "Soylent" despite there being a fictional drink called Soylent Green that is famously made of people from that old dystopian future movie - always wondered whether it was pure ignorance on the ones who made it (though a long part of pop culture it is increasingly less well known every year) or them being cheeky, or bc soylent is actuality a pre existing term or something

Aaagghh! I somehow missed this stream? Despite seeing many multiple people play this game, I am definitely interested in seeing how Jacob and Julia find it!

In "defence" of cozy "coffee shop AUs" - It's character depth. I've never read a coffee shop AU that didn't explore nuances of the characters. I'm also for fluff, because calms in stories are great for exploring the less explosive parts of development. I do also think that A: it's valid not to want to deal with a certain issue, but authors don't have to conform to other's wants, B: when people don't want ANY conflict or progress, or development or anything thought provoking, what they really want is something that doesn't offend *them* . The content is likely to offend others, often because of stereotyping and -ist/-phobic stuff that's everywhere in their society, that they haven't recognised and faced yet. Like a lot of people, when they say they want something "inoffensive" don't mean they want something actually inoffensive and inclusive. Put a wheelchair user in their rom-com and it's suddenly "not unproblematic" anymore because it makes them realise how ableist they are in their everyday life. Essentially - usually when people say they want something that's "light", they either want conflict that's resolved and handled in such a way that they don't feel unsafe, *or* they want content that doesn't draw attention to issues with their behaviour and views - they want something that glosses over stuff and doesn't help them. The whole offering "light romance" as "a break" for women who are tired of dealing with the sexism and other shit they've got going on, rather than offering them something that makes them feel confident in themselves, able to weed out the shit that's making stuff unneccesarily hard for them, and making them feel like lives where they don't have to constantly fend off sexism at every turn is possible. Ah, I mean I've never read *good* coffee shop AUs that didn't expore character depth.

Ok, this is going to be my official Silent Hill 2 playthrough. Julia and Jacob bring just the right kind of vibes and jokes to this game. I hope they play the whole game.
