Jim, dont be despondent about your plot and recent mistakes made. Every day is a school day, and we live and learn. Making omelettes without breaking egge, etc. You're doing the right thing making raised beds, and I'm sure this time next year you'll be thrilled with how your plot looks. Keep up the good work 👏

Put all the old wood in the bottom of your new beds. I've been in woods for rotten logs to put in bottom cos they are 18inch deep.

Charles Dowding is worth watching , no dig gets my vote especially with raised beds.

You should use the strawberry mesh to make a proper compost sifter. Gets out the big chunks to throw back and finish and leaves you with beautiful soil to plant in/ seed start.

💯% agree with comments to use old wood or logs in raised beds, on double cardboard, my Hügelkultur beds are so healthy 😊 personally I never burn, contributes to climate change, then it floods and the cycle continues 😢 Anything I can't reuse goes to recycling or last resort land fill 👌 Great to see your Chanel growing and the progress you have made since the start 💚🤗

When your patio bit floods you could clean it with a stiff brush get rid of all the slimy growth and then sweep the water onto the soil I'm in the north and the weather has been so bad this year the only things that enjoyed it were the slugs and snails! the allotment is looking great and the new one too you've done loads this year you should look back at the start of the year and pat yourself on the back! have a great weekend x

the permanent plot for Jerusalem Artichokes will be permanent whetheryou like it or not, once you plant them you can never get rid of them. 😃Excellent video.

Watch out for mice/voles nibbling shoots off sprouting garlic if you've got them in your tunnels. I discovered that after placing my modules trays full of garlic cloves and onion sets down on the ground in a polytunnel border. It was after I relocated them up on a table that I discovered that rats can jump up onto low tables and eat garlic cloves.

That poison free bait stops the rats being able to digest food mate, then they starve, same as baking soda and powered icing sugar, it does same thing, and way cheaper, it works with ants, mixed with flour it does same for catapillers👌

Hi Jim, I just looked up poison free rat bait, and apparently you use hem for infestation detection so you know you have\ them. The site suggests you then put them in live catch traps or put down traditional bait. Apparently it s irresistible to mice nd rats- so are peanuts, lol! We use live traps to capture mice and rats. The mouse traps work but the rats are too clever for the traps and manage to take the peanuts, (bait) without getting captured! I have just taken on a 2nd plor at my site and it is in an awful state. I intend to put membrane down for just a year, then lift it , put in raised beds, then re-lay it just between the beds, with woodchip. That's how we did our first plot and it has worked very well- virtually no weeding on the site, bar the odd bit of bindweed. Happy growing 🙂

We learn until our death bed. I would have pulled the carrots to thin them out that, way remainder is given more chance of getting bigger

As long as the wood is untreated it will rot down, place along the edge of your new raised beds, will reduce the chance of something digging under your boards, put fresh woodchip down the paths. Do you follow Steve Seaside Kitchen Garden, he has built his Allotment up all his neighbors flood every winter. I garden on extremely wet, clay soil the woodchip paths help to soak up the excess moisture.

Shame about the wet weather 😢. We can burn as of Monday but yes we striped all our burning items to avoid a wet smokey fire. The last thing we want are neighbors complaining. My plans are always more successful in my head than in reality 😂😂. 7:20 problem is it’s seems to have rained a lot. It shed looks fab. Rats will carry off bait for later too, when we used bait we always used a powered version. Yes you can eat green butternut squash there are even recipes out there. I’m the same I’m taking better stock of what I like or what works well, why waste your time. Anyway enough waffling, have an amazing weekend Jim and family, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦

That's rat bait 🤣 you're meant to use it along with a trap/bait device. You're essentially just feeding the rats atm

Have you just hung your strawberry baskets from the poly tunnel frame ? I was going to build an independent support because I assumed it might be too heavy for the 25mm frame when watering the baskets.
