Another great video. A lot of people fail to understand lines are situational. The braid-only crowd thinks it is a do it all line. Using lures with trebles, the mono and fluoro have some stretch. It is shock strength, that helps keep the hooks in along with the softer tips .

All my stick baits are weighted for 8lb mono so they will suspend perfectly. The 6’6” medium is my go to rod. Just love fishing a stick bait when the water water is cold!

I would like to let you know this was awesome. I enjoyed it and learned a few things along the way. I went back and looked through your other videos and found the Ultimate Guide to Crankbaits, that was great as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I saved both Jerkbait and Crankbait Guides Series to my library. Please continue with these.

Hi Ike, love the videos I have a question that I think was not talked about in the series. When you are doing high speed retrieving and high cadence of jerks and twitches should you do an additional hookset after you get a bite ? I am asking because few weeks ago I was saltwater fishing with a suspending jerkbait and had an aggressive bait while doing fast retrieve and twitches and I had the fish on for more than minute but just as you said when the fish got near the boat it dived under and did a few aggressive sprints and got off, so I was wondering what could I have done better. P.S. I was using a rod with a soft tip with braided line, and fluorocarbon leader and my drag was not that heavy. I am 90% sure it was an amberjack (~ 4 - 6 punds)

Great info. I use Sufix siege mono 10lbs and 14lbs. Does the 10lbs get deeper than 14lbs. I used fluorocarbon before switched over to Sufix siege mono. I have more trust in the Sufix than fluorocarbon in snag. With Sufix I can break a hook of a treble and still get my bait back. I am a riverbank fisherman and fishing under the bridge with wood around the bridge pillar base is not a good place to cast a jerkbait or crankbaits in current

So why not use pure graphite jerkbait rod short medium rod with the softer tip but crisper rod? Most jerkbait rods are pure graphite instead of composite because modern graphite can be soft enough at like 30/70 or 40/60, so I'm really curious why you prefer composite on jerkbaits? That's interesting you choose composite. When I tried composite jerkbait rod, it was too soft which wore me out.

Another great video, Thanks for this four part series. I have definitely applied many of these types and have got more bass over the last few weeks than I have in the last 2 years I have been using jerk baits. I now need a glass or composite cranking rod to use with jerk baits and smaller crank baits. I learned the hard way earlier this week losing a large5-6 on bass at the boat during that last quick dart the fish took. My fast action rod was not forgiving enough and the fish pulled off the hook. A moderate tip would hav made a world of difference. I have realized this would have made a difference with my other treble hook lost fish as well ;-)

When is it best to go with a spinning rig vs a baitcasting one? Since I don't have a ton of rods for every application, are there prefered reels that have the capability to change out spools as needed?

I throw my jerkbait on a 6'10" medium moderate fast, 30 lb braid with a 20 lb fluoro leader. The leader is so think at 20 lb that it doesnt sink as fast, and it's mainly because where I fish I have a good chance to encounter pikes and these toothy bastard can go through 10 lb test fluoro so easily.

You may consider that the action of the bait might be badly affected using too strong of a line. When I fish for pike I use a tiny tip of Titan leader or steel leader. Just about 4 to 6 inches….

@@arnemueller2112 that was my biggest worry when I switched to that heavy line but honestly, after three years on that setup it's working just as well as with my previous lighter setup.

I’ve never seen or used a feathered treble on the belly of a jerkbait…usually, it’s on the tail….🤔
