Your comments on building that self sufficiency by doing the work yourself is spot on, and a god send wheeling any vehicle far from civilisation. Great to see your old school have a go attitude, which seems maybe disappearing a little as vehicles are becoming less approachable.

Great vid, have done all the wiring and installs in my own vehicles. It is always a process, but it's fun, and that intimate knowledge of how it all works is invaluable. Oh, and no matter how many times you've done, the first power up is always nerve-wracking 😂

Yeah I'm just a little over careful when it comes to something like this. Did so much change to the wiring, I was worried I forgot a wire somewhere 😅. But it's been fantastic so far with no issues 🤠👍🍻

Thanks Adam. Ex mechanic and almost electrician. Do all my own auto electrical work. Have a 75AH lithium under the bonnet for aux for fridge and other things. I always over size cables. Not cheap but never have issues. No smoke is always good.

Great to see a small and simple lithium install. No need for 200+ amp hrs when you can charge them so fast.
@Oh_Sully239 ай бұрын
My first 4WD had a dual battery system under the bonnet and power to the rear for a fridge already installed when I purchased it. Recently upgraded and the "new" car (1995 model) was completely stock. Decided to do the 12V install myself for reasons you outline. If something goes wrong I'd like to be able to fix it, or at least isolate it to make it safe if not functional. I cheated a bit by using the Egon DC Hub which made all the wiring very easy for me, but still had to get a hydraulic crimper, soldering iron, heat gun etc and work out what size cables and fuses I needed, run everything, cut, crimp and heat shrink the cables which was all new to me.

I agree, with low voltage system, you can save lots of money by fitting it yourself! I do it all the time!

Yeah so far I'm loving it, I would have to pull out the solar every week to keep the lead acid from dropping too low once or twice a week, no problems now 😁

Hi guys,, Lov ya vids and fam ! I’m intrigued by your campers awning as have a 12foot pop top I’d like to do the same ! Is it curve cut at end walls to match curved rafters etc What’s your best video to see it all ,, I’ve watched nearly all over the years ! Ps I lm in Brisbane ,, maybe a video idea set up etc Cheers 🍻
@GoingOverland11 ай бұрын
So we have 2 different awnings, the big grey canvas awning comes from lifestyle and they are cut to suit the curved rafters. The 2 small awnings we use while on the move are something we did. The side awning is a custom tarp with sail track from ecotarps in WA and its just cut square and 3 years on works great, the rear is a 4wd awning wall with sail track that cost $40 and works great
@Jim-Bob.11 ай бұрын
Cheers for reply I’ve got the canvas cut and sewn now the fun job of curing 3 times and finding some decent rafters 😂 3 weeks at Inskip should test her out ,, straight after this cyclone !! Ah camping,, gotta Lov it !!

Hey mate great video. How did you wire up the shunt to the itech battery? With just the plugs and no visible terminals I’m curious as I jsut purchased one Thanks mate

I’ve been using the itech gear for years. I reckon you’ll never look back 😊

Yeah can't wait to give it a good test this Christmas running the fridge in the summer heat and how the solar system goes 🤠👍🍻
@zoezoe610 Жыл бұрын
Our van has a complete Itechworld setup which works well. Did you set the shunt to a 50ah battery and set to charge it to 100% ?
@Mosesk1988 Жыл бұрын
Defo keen to see how this small lithium goes! Looking to fit itechs 120x and 40amp charger to my camper. Also replace the slimline agm in back of ranger with this 55amp lithium and 25amp charger. Hmm How much solar have you got on the patrol? I have a 160w should be plenty to handle a fridge some lights etc.
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
We run a 160w panel on the camper that charges the patrol or a 100w on the roof rack if no trailer. I think it'll work great but we'll test it properly this Christmas while offgrid for a week. So far it's great, had the radio going for 6 hours the other day and battery fully charged in 20 minutes! 😁

Tip for shunts. It's just the new battery post. Pretend the post on the battery itself and the b+ on the shunt is not there.
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
Well said, that's exactly right. The instructions had me a little on edge because it said all negatives from accessories had to be wired through it, but all of mine are earthed through body. But a earth body wire is all that's needed, they could have made that a bit clearer 🤪

there are horror stories of lithium batteries catching fire in Aussie outback conditions. Is this a concern? Or these batteries safe in hot environments?

Isn't 32-8=24?? Good saving though!!

That's a bit much price wise it is cheaper with kings gear. I love itech world stuff but I just can't afford that. Love the set up you have though.
@GoingOverland Жыл бұрын
I don't think I'd trust a kings lithium, but really happy with our itech in the camper. Definitely a lot more up front, but when we are spending $250 on a replacement lead acid under the bonnet every 2 years, it was getting expensive too! See how it goes long term. Cheers for watching 👍 🤠🍻

🤣 500w is more than enough for us. Main thing I use it for is the soldering iron, charging the camera/laptop. $80 jaycar and lasted the big lap so I'm happy 😊

Sorry to inform you mate but it's now illegal to install Batteries in a passenger space without an enclosed vented box ....as per the new Australian standard ..AS/NZ 3001.2 I'm a boatbuilder and I install these systems and I'd hate for your kids to be in danger and insurance not pay out if you have problems..
