I took a road trip to Wakita 5 years ago, just to see the village up close and personal. I found it fascinating that its real history is very unlike that depicted in the movie: Wakita has never been hit by a twister once in over 100 years. There is something about an ancient Native-American spell cast over the land, shielding it from tornado hits. I saw the museum there but did not go in; it was March, so it wasn't open for the season yet.

I love this movie. It's so camp, but in the best possible way. Used to watch it on endless repeat for a random semi-autistic obsessive puzzle challenge I put myself into. "Can I do a complete jigsaw puzzle in the span of one movie?" (It happened to be Twister.) Uh... no. ...I know, watch it again!! ...and again... and again... No idea how many times it took, but by the end, Twister was my go-to puzzle watching movie. 😂 (I was bored as a child.)

The actual tornado that hit the grain silos in the bridge scene occurred on the 14 year anniversary (May 10, 2010) of the release of the movie Twister. It was just one of 42 tornadoes to occur that day. Other tornadoes touched down near Wakita, OK.

“You used to be able to match up the silos and tree line here but an actual tornado came through and took it all out.” As an Okie and Twister lover, I must say, that might be the best description of Oklahoma that I’ve ever heard. A film about chasing tornadoes captures footage of real world locations that will be destroyed by a real tornado within a quarter century of its filming.

The movie used some scenes from when the Tornado hit Edmonton in 1987, known as Black Friday July 31,1987. They used news footage from that event. My house had it's roof & siding tore off. My shed was blown away. Worst thing I have ever lived though. Scary!

The last sequence in the movie, the F5 tornado....that scene was filmed just 10 minutes aways from me in Eldora, IA. That now famous Victorian house, what we call the 'Twister House' is still there. It's been restored to a beautiful blue color. Look it up sometime.

In reference to the scene shot just outside of Ames Iowa where the f5 spared to ranch house, and you see the family coming out of the storm cellar after it passes. My sister in law was supposed to play the part of the ranchers wife, but was sick on the day of shooting and got her friend to fill in for her.

Loved that the film always instilled. Mother nature is the most powerful. And now more than ever we must take care of our precious earth. 🌏 Always the best film cast and story! *7:34 Got emotional where Bill stood 🕊Rest in peace. Amazing work on showing the locations!

I was working at the Guthrie airport when they filmed there. I would go down there during lunch and see what all they were building. I missed out being there the night that did the filming. They let the public watch from across the tracks towards downtown. They came to the airport and bought jet fuel. IIRC, they had a semi trailer with a jet engine or two to use to give them the wind that needed for the tornado scene.

I was also a one time storm chaser, as a member of Sky Warn. While Twister showed the life of a chaser in realistic ways...... the movie made it seem like every storm dropped a tornado. A real chaser can go a whole season if not more and never see a tornadic storm.

@@GoingtotheMovies LOL yeah it was...and they were ALWAYS huge tornadoes, which of course is not the case.
