Gojo has been trying to figure out reverse cursed technique, something Shoko knows how to do. Cursed energy is negative energy so by multiplying negative by negative one can reverse into positive energy. Shoko uses it to heal, but you can also create an opposite version of one’s technique. So gojos blue is the negative subtraction of space, pulling things together, and red is the addition of space, repelling things. Finally, when you bring negative and positive together, they cancel out whatever they come in contact with. And that’s hollow purple.

Gojo's red is a reverse technique (it's on the name) so to perform it he needs to use reverse cursed energy. That's what Choko, Yuta, sakuna, and the others use to heal. At the beggining of the episode geto and gojo talk about how they still can't get a grip on reverse cursed energy. Choko already can, but she sucks at giving them advice. That's why gojo flunked it at the end. btw, it's called "reverse" because it does exactly that. The original blue atracts, the reverse red repells (hard af). Same as cursed energy is used to cause damage, but if you reverse it, it heals. hope to be helpful.

So important note about Gojo's technique and Curse techniques in general. Each technique has its normal way of operating and then its reverse. Gojo's normal technique when ampilified is a pulling force, while the reverse technique is pushing. But reverse curse technique is super hard to pull off so he's struggling to do it. Which is why his red technique fails.

**Limitless Explanation for Anybody Who Rly Wants it** The power you see him use the most is known as blue. Like he said in the episode, his technique is like an infinite series of numbers (think asymptote graphs from calc 2 if you’ve taken that class). Like a diverging series, people may get close to the destination, but they never truly approach it. As for the “natural negative numbers” thing. That’s a bit of a bad way to put it. He basically takes an interval of that infinite space between him and his target and uses the negative properties of cursed energy to create an interval of “-1 space”. But if you’ve ever taken a chem class, you know that’s not possible, so the universe tries to course correct itself by pulling everything together. This is how blue works. Basically if you were to convert this scenario to its mathematical counterpart, there’s a curve that’s DESPERATELY trying to hit zero, but it can’t because there’s an asymptote (basically a math wall at a specific value) there. Gojo just kinda uses cursed energy to create a “natural negative number” at some point along the curve, and the graph tries to adjust itself to account for the hole. Red is just the inverse of that. Instead of attraction, it repels. It’s an application of reverse cursed technique. The only reason he can even see these intervals of space with such accuracy is because of the 6 eyes power. Remember in season 1 during the exchange event it literally allows him to see people down to their cursed energy.

here with a simplified gojo technique breakdown! think of red and blue as opposite poles of a magnet blue is “implosion” or the power of “attraction.” you could see him use it on riko, he’s not grabbing her, he’s using blue to anchor her to him. blue used “negative cursed energy” to power it up. red is essentially the power of “explosion” or the power of “repulsion.” this technique uses “positive cursed energy,” or “reverse cursed energy.” positive cursed energy is actually one of the most difficult things to accomplish, previously you only really see shoko, yuuta, and sukuna use it for healing. hollow purple is the combination of these techniques. it is both powers at the same time. think of it as “1 + -1.” when combined, it equals “nothing.” the acts of attraction and repulsion essentially cancel out and just erase whatever is in its path instantaneously.
