@@GojuRyuKarateCentre Nice to see details like nukite pointing downwards, being talked about, as well as the snap back focusing on thumb base. The four direction palm strikes: OGKK / Jundokan does it slowly, IOGKF does it fast. The story behind that: when Anichi Miyagi asked Chojun Miyagi why he was taught to do it fast, but he saw that when others did it, they did it slowly....Chojun replied and said, he demonstrated it slowly to them because he was old by the time they learnt the kata (meaning Jundokan/OGKK lineage). I actually looked at Meibukan Shisochin because of this, and found that true enough, Yagi and Higa both early students of Chojun Miyagi, taught the fast version. Anyway, an interesting variation to the palm strike when done slowly, is to do a nukite slowly most of the way, and only converting into a palm strike at the end.....the fingers lead the strike, and when the fingers touch the target....the hand changes shape into a palm strike - hidden meanings that were lost when this part of the kata is done quickly.

It would be *amazing* if YT would stop eating all the super-long replies I write! Sigh. Thank you for this fascinating insight - I definitely learned something new! We often forget that karate is influenced as much by the health and abilities of those who teach it. Sometimes there's no obscure secret - Sensei was just old, or ill, and was doing the best he could with the body and health he had. And karate should never be reserved for the strong and powerful, because then it would lose its efficacy and global appeal. So it is always reassuring to read these snippets, and always such a delight to hear from you, good sir! Thank you for taking the time to watch, and for sharing your knowledge with us. How wonderful that we can do all this now!

Hello. You can use a lapel mic to record your audio - they're cheap to get and easy to use - they may not make the audio quality mega professional, but they'll still do the job well enough. You can use that mic to record into your phone and then use that audio. You'll have to do some googling on how exactly to do it, but it shouldn't be too difficult. I'd love to watch the whole video but the subtitles are out of sync hahah. I'll still be trying to learn as much as I can from this. So, thank you.

Hello! Right after this video, we did get a lapel mic - our regret is not getting it sooner! It has made such a change to our videos. It took a little bit of effort to learn but well worth it. Those subtitles got so broken, somewhere along the way - after many hours of trying to get them to sync, I gave up. But I will try again some day! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, and we hope you will enjoy our newer, better videos 😊

Funny though, I've seen some US Ranger or green beret training manual from Vietnam war times and this hand position with slight variations was shown as their main fighting stance and not a boxer stance that anybody would expect. I wonder if their have over-trained in Okinawa before going to combat. :)

Can't go wrong with a hand in someone's face, or to their throat! But definitely could be a link to the GIs who trained in Okinawa after the second World War ;)

In 1945, as World War II came to a close, Okinawa was placed under American rule, and until it was reverted to Japan on May 15, 1972. US Marine Corp did incorporate concepts from Goju and Isshin into it's combatives.
