Honestly you just gave me hope in the internet. Yes, people who write comments are actual human beings many are much older and more experienced then you might think. Thank you so much I was sincerely sad in my heart at the lack of credit and combative nature in the comments of most videos you are my hero. I apologize for the religiosity but I must thank the Lord for answering a prayer I didn’t realize I was making thank you for being a blessing in my day.

This is such a beautiful comment for us to receive - we are truly a lucky channel to have attracted such great karate minds to our work, and that they take the time to comment _every single time_ is so humbling and special. One of the best parts of starting this channel has been this small community we have found, and are so grateful for. We hope you will stick around and share your knowledge with us! Thank you for taking the time to comment - much appreciated :)

Dear Sir, Congratulation on the comprehensive presentation of Seipai Kata, one of my favourite ones from Goju Ryu Katas. I enjoyed yourunderstanding of the variations and the repeated advice, emphasizing adherence local preferences. Having spent more than three decades in training, teaching and coaching, I would also show the whole Kata at the beginning of your presentation, too, so as to provide your viewers a picture of the whole, which is then broken down into meaningful parts. Many thanks and best regards, Pavol Bajusz, 66, retired instructor of Goju-ryu Karate.

This is some fantastic work good sir. The mention of the different variations from the onset is what got me hooked. I have a unique lineage in GoJu, (Miyagi, Toguchi, Kawakami, Reese, My Father) and have struggled finding other practitioners performing the Kata as I have been shown. Your videos and explanations are greatly appreciated. OSU!

Ah, what a lovely, lovely comment, Thomas! And your unique lineage is truly special - different isn't bad, and we are trying to teach our students that the variations of the kata are not a bad thing: instead it shows the flexibility and adaptability of Goju Ryu to the practitioner and the times. Thank you for this generous comment, and apologies for the late reply - we're working though the comment backlog >.

Excellent kata Sensei! This kata has been kind lost at our dojo through transitions; one of my sensei never knew it, the other no longer practices, while Sensei Vern at our dojo just can’t remember it. He shared this video with myself and another instructor at the school. We are just gonna break it down by move by move and see what we can put together. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Che Sensei for your clear and concise highlighting of the the key points in Sepai kata. Seipai contains a variety of unusual movements and techniques and has strong Chinese influence. Of the Koryu katas, Seipai ( also Kururunfa) is unique in that it does not feature 3 repetitions of the opening moves. Also the first move involves a shift to the back unlike other katas. One requires good co-ordination between hips and hands when performing this kata. It includes body twisting techniques and rapid, whipping techniques combined with pulling techniques requiring Muchimi ('heavy sticky hands').
@GojuRyuKarateCentre3 жыл бұрын
I'm just going to point to this comment when people ask why Seipai is so hard to learn - it really does demand so much from the practitioner, but it truly offers abundant reward once one can get a grip on all the complexities of this exquisite, venerable kata. Thank you for always taking the time to comment, and to share your knowledge with us, Sensei! - Zoe

Great content as always. You covered all the major points in this kata for Goju-Ryu. For reference: IOGKF opening for this kata requires the LEFT hand to do a small circle, similar to how we do it in Mawashi-Uke/Toraguchi (except the palm rests on the centre-line) - it's like a break-free from a wrist-grab followed by a counter grab. At 4:14 the pivot strike, the IOGKF version requires front foot and back foot to be on the same line (not at shoulder-width) - this were some of the detailed grading requirements back when I did this many years ago (the others you have covered very completely).

Ché also says: It's been so long that he completely forgot about that break-away variant: it is buried in his past from when he did train with Sensei Higaonna in the early 80s. Maybe we'll work it into the bunkai video, when we get around to it 😉
@matthews10823 жыл бұрын
@@GojuRyuKarateCentre No doubt Che knew about it, because his knowledge of Goju-Ryu is very comprehensive, but it's just impossible to cover every little detail in a short video - I often got reminded of Goju-kai and Shitoryu variations (learnt from when I was a child and forgotten) when I watched Che's videos.

Hello! We actually did a video on Naifunchin aaaaages ago (during lockdown, probably time to do an updated one) - it is such a great kata, and one that I wish was part of the formal Goju Ryu syllabus. It isn't part of OGKK's, because it isn't considered one of the 'true' kata, but apparently Chojun Miyagi thought it was super important. Thank you for the kind words - we really appreciate it :D

Very good. There are many variations but all that you show contain the same or similar valid combinations of techniques. I have also seen and learnt other versions which just are not correct. You can always tell when there are different groupings that often don’t make sense. Check out Peter Urban kata let me know. Interesting to see Yamaguchi who came to the Meibukan to continue learning ended up varying so far away but kept the essential groupings.
@GojuRyuKarateCentre3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick, Thank you for commenting! We definitely do follow some of the Meibukan channels and instructors, and even mention Peter Urban in our video on books. The Yamaguchi signature is very distinct - it is always super clear to see if someone comes from the Meibukan line! We appreciate the time you took to watch and comment :)

We are filming Sanseru follow-along this week, and working our way up to Seisan follow-along. Thank you so much for watching and commenting - we really appreciate it! :)
