Great summary. I am glad to see many of the things you mention also mentioned by the sensei of my dojo. Lecker! I wonder if that comes from German. We have the word, but it refers to food and means that something is delicious and tastes really good. So similar meaning, just in a different context. Edit: Googled and it comes from Dutch lekker. Edit: All the best for you grading.
@GojuRyuKarateCentreКүн бұрын
So Afrikaans is a hybrid of Dutch, French and English (once referred to, pejoratively as 'kitchen Dutch)'. When we watch German shows, we can pick up the occasional shared word. Thank you for the kind words!

Hi sensei ! I wish you the best. I myself just got my Godan a few months ago, and my Renshi ! Hopefully everything will be fine from your side during your Rokudan target workout. Let's keep going ;) I personally use small dumbbells of 7.5kgs for my Sanchin-like warm-up exercises, and I'm wondering if it's too heavy or not. How much do weigh your dumbbells ? I admit that I only practice Sanchin warm-ups with weights, and regular workout for improving my toughness and resistance. I'll give a try to your Seienchin-like exercises too.
@GojuRyuKarateCentreКүн бұрын
Congratulations! A rank and title most deserved! I use between 5kg - 7.5kg for the Sanchin exercises. You can use weights as heavy as you like as long as you can keep form and not risk injury. For some people, that's 3kgs, for some its 10kg. Even once the grading has passed, these morning workouts have been an excellent motivator! They might not be as regular, but its a good habit to keep :)

I wanted to leave idea a lot of American Masters of Karate are teaching Zoom classes with combined seminars, and testing at the Dojo in person. It’s big deal over hear now I think it might work out most are charging 100$ dollars a month , 80 dollars for privates also most master that do this like teaching husband and wife or spouse and kids . Just food for thought cause you guys are becoming a big thing .
@GojuRyuKarateCentreКүн бұрын
Wow! We are actually starting online classes in August, at just $20 a month for one lesson a week on a Saturday. We may charge more for privates if there's a need - maybe this comment is the sign we need that we can make a go of it! We've been putting it off for a long time, but we've been getting email queries, and it makes sense to open up this chance for our dojo to grow :)

Goju Ryu truly has so much built in - when taught properly, it is a complete system! So funny when the MMA bros completely miss the point about what we do, and that most of it was borrowed/stolen/cribbed from the Okinawan styles. Thank you for this truly lovely comment!

@GojuRyuKarateCentre I tried my hand at Bjj for 7 years after training in Goju Ryu. Both are super fun. Goju ryu actually gave me my two favorite subs, and the clinch work really helped me with the takedown entries as well as defense. Thanks!
