The God of Gokarna or Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple is an important temple, situated near the village of Gokarna several metres northeast of Boudhanath in the kathmandu valley. The temple's santum lies an important lingam of the Hindu god shiva. Ravana was blessed to conquer the Trilokya by meditating in this temple. Similatly, as Gorkarna is an ancient and important pilgrimage. The Bengali king Dharmapala came here. Looking at the stone of Gokarneshwor Mahadev. It is a black natural stone and its period is prehistoric. In the village on the banks of the Bagmati River stands the Gokarna Mahadev Temple built by Licchavi king Mandev. In late August or early September people go to this temple to bathe and make offerings in honor of their fathers. On this day called Gokarna Aunsi or kushe Aunsi. This Gokarna is also known as Uttargaya. Devotees who come to Gokarna light lamps, offer tarpan, do Shraddha in the name of their fore fathers and also give some money, fruits and food help to the poor.
