100% it’s proof that the legendary super sayian isn’t the ruthless monster vegeta thought. Deep down behind all that rage and pain, Goku is still in there, the same Goku who (to paraphrase Totally Not Mark) earnestly believed his brother and wanted to let him be free. One his grandpa raised to always assume and hope for the best in others despite everything. Even if it was a futile effort, Goku still wanted to see the best in even a monster like Freeza. The manga depicts the final “You FOOL” face so much more solemn as a result. When Goku gained control of the fight, he slowly went back to his pure hearted self. He was strong enough to show mercy, and strong enough to still hope for the best.

Two giants just beating the hell out of each other for what seems like 100 episodes. They are so closely matched but Goku is just too damn tough. Frieza never gets pushed to his limits and doesn't know adversity like this. Goku has been doing this his whole life. I mean how many times has he been hit in this battle? And he just keeps getting back up.

Goku did everything in his power to not destroy Frieza that's not in his nature even when an opponent evil to the core like Frieza. Goku does not want to kill he gave him one last chance to live, and you can see he was hurt by his decision when frieza chose to attack him.

As said many times, this English translation doesn’t do justice to Goku. Goku actually said “live in your humiliation and don’t show your face again”. And there are many more translation mistakes. I don’t like how they’ve americanised Dragon Ball Z and removed its real essence. The real Goku is not a tree hugging guy, for God sake. It’s irritating knowing that a lot of people are getting frauded from the real Dragon Ball by this fake translation, to the point where western audience don’t even understand what Dragon Ball is all about. There’s actually another English version which is the right translation.

Gohan and piccolo are the opposite in terms of intelligence compared to tien and chiaotzu. Tien and chiaotzu are meatheads and dumb while gohan and piccolo are intelligent.
