The first she’s spent by herself in the 35 years she was married to Ted (Alex Jennings), before he left her. Determined to have a good day, Julia leaves her Devon home and heads to London to celebrate with her children - but one by one they let her down.
Leo (Archie Renaux), her youngest, simply because he forgets. Della (Jemima Rooper), her only daughter, marooned abroad and guilt-stricken, and her firstborn Patrick (Sebastian Armesto) who is struggling to maintain a hectic work and home life - all whilst fighting an attraction to a colleague.
Feeling adrift, Julia’s at a low ebb when she happens upon a young man in a museum, Benjamin (Ben Barnes). The pair get talking and before she’s quite sure what’s happening they’re beginning a whirlwind romance. All that’s left to do - introduce him to her children.
But they are suspicious of this younger man’s motives, and soon start plotting how to remove him.

This is rich with well-formed characters and spoiled upper-middle-class kids thinking their mother is stupid, and she's not. The end act is predictable, but the details of how it plays out are delicious. DON'T MISS IT!

Say whatever you say but I love this series a lot. It shows two royally effed up people coming together and trying to make their relationship work. So, unnecessary drama, now cheezy corny romantic scene, now that's a romance series that I like. It felt very real most of the time. Their love was very mature and understanding. Normally when I watch something I read between the lines and come up with my own interpretation, but with this show I just let it rest. Because I really believe that they love each other and no matter how shady things looked (both are broken people what do you expect?), there's always a hope. And that's what I liked about this show. I just wish there were more episodes because I really loved their chemistry.

Gold Digger did a great job of putting the Toy Boy on trial only with older woman as the Judge, while peeping into the lives of her kids and jealous ex husband leading the prosecution, his brother the prosecution witness and the mistress acting for his defence, leaving the audience to act as the jury.

Fantastic show peopled with flawed human beings, foolish choices and desire. Unfortunately shown by 7 in Australia with a ridiculous amount of advertising. Therefore it takes patience to follow the subtleties. The national broadcaster is so cash strapped it isn't showing these programs much any longer so we have to put up with the ads.
