Gravity is not a form of energy, it is a way that energy is transferred. And about your second question. We don’t know why mass has gravity. We simply know that all things with mass bend space time and thus have gravity. Thats like asking why an electron has a negative charge. It just does. Questions like that most likely will not have an answer in physics.

1. objects above a given surface have gravitation potential energy. gravitation and gravitation potential energy is different. gravitation potential energy is the potential energy this object has at that given height level. it can be converted from perhaps work done by a person to move the object above the surface. 2. when you see an object drop onto the surface, ie gravitation, gravitational potential energy converts into kinetic energy (object falling) and sound energy (sound from object landing on the surface).
