Born in the forties and we were not allowed to take any prospecting gear, I put ripples in my hard hat which was a round top with a metal band around it. Light pretty much and when I came to culverts on those old logging roads, quickly jump out of the log truck and scrape some sandy material into it and shake it around to see if any color. Did this for about three or more years and really it did not do great but hey, it was fun and something. I did find color each year as the water came down from winter melts. Not a get rich idea for sure but still fun plus it never got me caught doing anything wrong.... lunch time was a great time as no one travels around and safer to have some fun out of a hard job driving off highway logging trucks that beat you to death

This was a hilarious video nd very nice. I love the small metal pan best. As a kid we used the small aluminum pie tins to try for gold. We didn't find much but it was fun with a kid sized handful of dirt in each pan.

I love the banjo on the shorelines. I fill it with a handful of material and paddle water into it with my other hand like a sluice. Works great for conentrating like 10 buckets of material into one bucket i can bring home to finish up later on when i have more time.

You should talk about how the different color pans allow different people to see the gold better since everyone’s eyes process color differently. Great video!

What's up Pauly, Golden Polack here... My gold pan that I have always used religiously is called "the professional" and I'm pretty certain that you couldn't have destroyed it with the tests you tried. It really is a great pan, strong and sturdy like the super sluice and the riffles are exactly what you'd look for in a gold pan. Give it a try, I think you'd like it. Get out there and Mine your business 💪.

Pauly, I have 2 banjo pans I run a recirculate clean up system with them. For the creeks they are awesome to use. The way you do it is you shovel the material into the pan. Then you fill up the base with water you then stratify the material the. You rock it forward and let it run down the riffles. Once the material is cleared out you dip the pan in a full bucket of water to rinse and repeat. It becomes freaking awesome once you get the hang of it. Hardest part is convincing authorities that it is not a sluice lol

Thanks Pauly for the deep and fun pan test! I never tried paning or anything candyrelated at all until now but want to try it out soon when spring is back in southern germany. One question: why don’t you take out the bigger stones out of the material? Is it because there might be still some candy stuck to it? Thanks for all the fun content, to me it’s a big motivation to bring my ass into nature more often again.

I prefer a round pan. Plastic or metal. A light few hits with a sand blaster will roughen the pan up in a heartbeat too. I did buy a Gold Claw pocket pan a number of years ago. (Way over priced IMHO). I used it a bit, but for me, it was hard to get the hang of. One nice thing about the metal pan is if it's clean and never had Mercury in it, you can cook your lunch in it if need be. I found some straps for holding sheets on a bed, and they will snap on the rim of a pan, making a chin strap to keep your head dry. I also have a killer mod for the Keene sluices (or any other similar) that really makes life massively easier to carry and use.

I blasted a banjo pan on a rock one day and it shattered in piece, i buy another one then goldclaw production pan work well but back breaking 2.5 gallons of material its a lot! But indestructible pan, steel one good but new it flush gold easily, needed a fire seasoning and acid trip to be look old and effective a little more, i can say goldclaw worth more to be known, banjo are really good but need stronger plastic because overtime rock will dent and scratch the banjo badly, for now just using minelab 10" is working great and his particular blue colors show fine gold very well. If just somebody will press metal pan with big sharp riffle its gonna be the best pan ever

i have a really good sluice setup in my garage, when i clean out the sluice i use a mini gold claw to check the khans for gold, the 2 work great together, i trust the sluice to capture even the smallest pieces of gold, simple because it does catch even the smallest gold, i also know the mini gold claw will do its part.

I've owned and liked the Turbopan. It worked well for panning ...........BUT... Just as you demonstrated, it is VERY apt to break. Not just by 'dropping a rock' on it, but I cracked mine in half by over-loading it. Picked it up with similar amounts of soil as per what you'd do with a 'Super Sluice' and subsequently I lost all my pay dirt to the river when it split in my hands. Never tried the Banjo, though I thought it a gimmick.

For a field pan i recommend the pan made by the GPAA. It's nearly unbreakable. The only 1 I've ever broken was upside-down and a 500 lb barrel of water fell one it. Only split edge to bottom

I'm an engineering tech and the KISS concept is best served by the batea pan. The only thing to consider is the size of the pan and I have to think that over the millennia of its use, it has evolved to fit the needs of the job. If all I'm concerned with is production, it's the hands-down winner.

Not gonna lie, before seeing the rest of this video... I've used the hex pan quite a bit and I love it... you can process a lot of material with them in a very short time, and they're not gonna have huge rocks being dropped on them to break the bottom into peices...

I actually have the black pan. I bought it as a set with a matching black plastic 1/4" classifier. Got them at Big 5 here in California. Paid maybe $8 - $10 for both. Bought with the hopes of someday using them to go gold panning and so far I never have gotten to go anywhere I can use them. I even rubbed the pan with dirt and gravel to season it but it has never touched gold bearing material...yet.
