Way to roll frankie! You landed on your feet bro, in Northern cali! Thanks for bringing your grouchy pragmatic optimism to California and showing us westerners how it's done without using gasoline!

Seems to me you should find more gold in you bucket than your sluice, basically making a fluid bed out of the bucket and the sluice is there to catch what the bucket misses.

Nice set up. I have had great success with a gravity dredge set up here in New Zealand. I used it just like a suction dredge. No digging or classifying. Just vacuumed up all the material. Was a 4" set up. You are putting in a lot of physical work for not much reward apart from being out in a beautiful spot out in nature. You have been beaten to the gold but you did well to get that ounce. Mind you, you have to be out there doing it to have a hope of getting anything. Good for you. John from New Zealand.:)

California prospecting is hoping that the guy before you was messy and lazy which doesn't seem to be the case most of the time LOL I had a treasure map for this spot showing where the cracks in the Bedrock were and how many ounces came out so I knew it was a shot in the dark just seeing if maybe they left something behind. It's nice to hear you're also using gravity dredge and having good luck. I got pancreatitis back in New York where I lived doctor told me if I didn't walk everyday I was going to die I found walking very boring so I drove out to California to start looking for gold back in 2012. Bought a little land, built a little shed living off grid 100% capturing Rainwater and enjoying my time running around these Hills. Good luck to you John, thanks for the nice comment.

If you put a screen over the top like a roof, dumping the big stuff each side of the bucket, ACROSS the current, you'd be building a dam across the creek, raising the head height, and pressure. Just dump it through.

Simplicity at its best, congratulations on your step saver. If there was a way to turn it into a vortex as the water entered the bucket, might help it float the light material out faster. Somebody else stated that you're probably leaving the gold at the bottom of the bucket, and I can see that totally happening. Who needs the sluice!

I wonder if you made the holes less around the sides, and a bit lower if the bottom dirt would move a bit faster through the hole. I have a fire hose and buckets with big holes on the bottom, I like this idea because many times one can find a place to put sluice, but not enough water flow. This is like a silent water pump. Great idea.

Yo If there’s gold where you got the ounce but no gold just down stream , then go up stream until it’s not producing , then go back to the best producing spot on the creek then work up the hill. Because that’s were it is coming from. I’m almost certain

How much is the hose? It pays itself off in the long run but its an upfront investment, isnt it? relative to whatever small cost is in a pump, a battery, recharging, etc. Also, i think if it was bigger the risk of disrupting the flow, creating high and low flows downstream is reduced. Something to watch.
@divergentthinking8324
@divergentthinking8324 3 ай бұрын
Not really sure on the price anymore,....no mechanical or mechanized mining in California where I'm at so the hose works legally, but as far as good gold spots go you got to take what it gives you being that you're using gravity. I mostly use 2 or 4 inch .good luck to ya though.

Not to criticize ! I say this to help you increase your finds. 1st. Find all the info you can. About hydrodynamics. Also. When your looking at an area. You have to remember. It's not what you see today. So much. But. What took place a million years ago. The reason. There was no gold around that Boulder it was resting on other big rock. Allowing the river to blow any gold out from under it. It's not a true low preasure area. Hydrodynamics. !
