To their credit, Ohio State shot out of its mind, especially from 3 in the 2nd half. Some of those were pretty well defended. When you look at every key stat, the only glaring difference in their favor is they hit 11 3’s and we only shot 9 hitting 3 of them. Especially at Mackey where they shoot 3’s at a crazy high percentage, assuming they are good looks for the right shooters I’d like to see that attempt number a little higher. It’s reasonable to assume some jet lag there too without sounding whiney and I think Brian’s reasoning was sound.

I love how Matt painter didn’t make any excuses on this game. You can’t win them all Ohio State got hot from 3 and hit contested shots. Move on and learn from this loss

The version of this on Apple Podcasts is about the Oregon game. Thanks for Purdue BBall discussion.

Seems like a lesson learned for B10 coaches for the balance of this year and beyond … if you’re coming home off a long west coast road trip, better be prepared to have your bench play more minutes and contribute more than “typical”

Agree with you 100 % I called that before the game. Coming back from the west coast is tough even if your not an athlete.

3rd game in 6 days. Friday's game vs UM will be Purdue's 10th B1G game of the season, while MSU won't even play their 8th game of the year until Sunday. Purdue is definitely getting put through the ringer schedule wise.

I agree, they lost their legs. As a Pacers fan, I've seen this same type of fatigue when they get back from a western road trip. So many shots missed close to the basket which tells me it was fatigue.

I commented on a Sleepers preview video about how not to count OSU out and how “crappy” teams seem to break bad trends and do very well against us and voilà…it happened lol.

I think that you are spot on, Brian. I predicted to a friend before the game that Purdue would struggle in this game, simply because of the travel, jet lag, loss of routine, legs ... whatever you want to call it. And it doesn't take Nostradamus to make that prediction. Like you mentioned, it has also happened to Illinois and Michigan, two of the better teams in the conference. It's not whining or making excuses when there appears to be a direct correlation between travel and a team's level of basketball that they play. Not a surprise there. Having said that, Ohio State's 3-point shooting was uncharacteristic of their typical performance. Sometimes, when you have nothing to lose, and you have no time to think about a shot before heaving up a 3-point prayer, it goes in. Do that a couple of times, and a team starts to believe that it is invincible. I believe that's what happened with Ohio State. They got their heads up and shot a high percentage. I thought Purdue did well to keep it as close as it was. Anyway, Go Boilers!

Braden Smith has games where he shoots like that all the time I’ve been saying it for weeks. 3-14 meanwhile Ohio State bangs in 9 of their last 13 threes. Purdue has a 16 point lead late in the first half and before they get the ball again they’re up 10. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. You gotta put the ball in the hole end of story.

That is exactly what I said " Jetlag". You couldn't have described it any better. They should have had at least seven days before there next game. They were moving much slower than Ohio State in the second half. Purdue was exhausted..

Excellent analysis. No surprise this ridiculous cross country schedule is a root cause of this loss, and for IL, MI, etc. Not an excuse, a cause and effect. Maybe we do like the NBA - load management for Braden Smith . He’s gonna get hurt or out of gas for the tournament.

What is Mackey 3s made by opponents record? Thank goodness it was on peacock so I didn’t have to watch. 20 to 2 run, this shouldn’t have been close. Izzo and Brad should be smiling, we still a four seed? If it is legs better find another answer by March!

You can’t win them all, but a home loss really hurts. We watched as they stole one at Oregon, and now they get one stolen. It happens. Purdue is a good team, but they are a young team. They needed someone to step up in the clutch, but the whole team went cold when OSU went hot. One small gripe: Gicarri Harris was 2-2 from three. He should have been given more shot opportunities to score there. Go to the hot hand. OSU did and Parrish burned Purdue badly, going 6/8 from three. Better get well soon. More big games coming.

At least I feel better about the Michigan game now. I’d really be shocked if Purdue dropped two in a row at home.

I just don't know about stuff catching up to Purdue. When I was 18-22 yrs old, I played sports and MAYBE, I'd be tired the next day, probably not. Def 3 days later I'd be 100%. To me, this was we won 7 games in a row, got a little ahead of ourselves, OSU started playing better defense, couple calls I didn't love and OSU starts hitting desperation 3s at the end of shot clocks or with a hand right in their face.

The west coast games came a week after Purdue played on the east coast with a stop at Mackey for a game in between. That's a lot of travel.

I have many Boilermaker friends. For over 2 years none of them would listen toi a single word I said about either IU or PU. Edey was king and shut up was their two headed mantra. This time last year the refs put 2 fouls on Ware bam bam and took him out of the game. They did that twice because the Big 10 front office wanted PU to get qa number 1 seed so band ghey insisted the stripped shirts cheat Ware. I tried to tell PU people, Ware is almost as good as Edey.
