It's corruption. I can't believe how brazen it is. Do they think fans are so stupid that we don't realise that with video replays they have no excuse for getting the obvious decisions correct, and that we won't deduce that they must be getting backhanders if they fail in this most simple task? It couldn't be more obvious that there is blatant corruption happening.

VAR is basically like legal match fixing. They've created a way to match fix technically legally. It's as if their trying to control the league in terms of keeping it close at all parts of the table, fighting for the title or europe or relegation battles to keep it exciting right until the last game so in turn more people watch more games. Viewing figures = money. I don't know but there's definitely something dodgy going on.

Can’t stand either of them. Both say anything to protect their jobs. It’s so clear that the PGMOL/Premier League have mentioned something to media - Sky in particular - to not highlight appalling refereeing. Probably under the guise of anti bullying or something. His authenticity goes out the window when it comes to City unfortunately..the conspiracy theories aren't consistent from the Liverpool fans anymore, they charge City but suddenly are bribed by them, Everton actually found guilty twice, suddenly they want to rig a game for them. People will genuinely listen more if everyone don't make it all about some top 6 rivalry with City obsession when all top 6 spend the most and get the most decisions

52:45 To bolster Marks point even further, it's not like the relegation battle is close due to the quality of Luton, it's only really close because of point deductions. It probably wouldn't have even been that entertaining throughout the season if Forest and Everton weren't deducted points.

the coventry disallowed goal is not so cut and dry Mark.. the lines are clearly drawn wrong, when you zoom in you can clearly see the ''Defender line'' goes over Wanbisaka's foot, aka it's not actually at the tip of his foot and it's hard to see where his foot ends because of the lines, furthermore the image is not stopped when the ball leaves the passing players foot, it's stopped slightly before first contact, so he might or might not actually be offside, but one things is sure the image used is not evidence for either.

Stuart Attwell awarded Reading the infamous ghost goal against, Watford. Who are Watfords rivals? Luton Town. And suddenly when Luton Town are in a relegation battle, 3 clear and obvious errors are blatantly ignored against their biggest relegation rivals. And I’m supposed to believe that it’s simply a coincidence and an accident? That’s twice (as far as I know) that Stuart has made a decision that benefits Luton or is at the very least against their rivals, and while that may not seem like a lot, for someone that is a Luton fan, it shows clear and obvious bias.

There is so much money involved in the premier league that it's naive to think there isn't corruption in some form in the premier league. At the end of the day the premier league is a brand and is now all about the show rather than fairness and consistency.

If you need to understand what's wrong, just look at the raw facts. Three terrible decisions go against Forest. Forest complain. Carragher and Neville, speaking for SKY and the punditry as a whole immediately the identify the problem as being that Forest complained. This must be stamped out they said, and they weren't talking about the nonsense way VAR is being appiled, they were talking about the clubs trying to defend themselves. I'm also reminded of last year when Andy Robertson got into trouble for (checks notes) being assaulted by the linesman...

We as fans have a fundamental misunderstand of what VAR is intended to do. As fans we think it should drive consistency and accuracy but that is clearly not the case. It is solely there to protect the referees. I’ve read/listen many of the articles by experts that explain all the var decisions (mainly because they are laughably amusing) and in them they all clearly give away what is happening. The driving force of VAR is “clear and obvious error.” This is solely there to give PGMOL and VAR enough wiggle room to back the on field decision even if incorrect. Until the that provision is removed, nothing will change. And here’s a novel idea, have the referees explain their decisions post match. At least it will give accountability.

His authenticity goes out the window when it comes to City unfortunately..the conspiracy theories aren't consistent from the Liverpool fans anymore, they charge City but suddenly are bribed by them, Everton actually found guilty twice, suddenly they want to rig a game for them. The same Liverpool robbed Forest earlier this year but they're suddenly supporting them. People will genuinely listen more if everyone don't make it all about some top 6 rivalry with City obsession when all top 6 spend the most and get the most decisions

Sorry about the lengthy comment but the topic justifies that, I hope! I think Graeme Souness summed it up perfectly on Talksport yesterday....VAR is embarrassing referees. It is embarrassing referees because of the confusing and arbitrary application of the protocols and procedures, which are being implemented inconsistently. VAR, currently, is the genie partially out of the bottle because referees are being unnecessarily restricted by the arbitrary and confusing protocols and procedures. We have essentially two simultaneous alternative realities.. ....one is the instant video replays shown to millions of viewers, the other is the slow-motion reviews and deliberations of the VAR officials in the room, frequently coming up with a different version of reality. That process is distorting and perverting the reality perceived by millions, which has frequently brought the process into disrepute. Apart from that problem, there is also a lack of transparency, the arbitrary and contradictory implementation of the protocols and procedures, and, in some cases, incompetence by the officials. VAR is not the problem, it is the poor, arbitrary and inconsistent implementation that is the problem. Let the VAR genie totally out of the bottle and uninhibited, as in rugby union, and review, refine and simplify the procedures and protocols. For example, the VAR officials should only decide on factual matters, like offsides. They should not decide on subjective issues. All errors leading to potentially game changing events should be flagged, not just clear and obvious errors, and all interventions should require the referee to go to the screen to make the final decision. Subjective issues should not be decided by the VAR officials. The problem is not with the VAR system, but with its inconsistent and arbitrary implementation, so I don't buy the conspiracy theories and lack of integrity. The whole process requires a drastic overhaul, and procedures and protocols need to be simplified, particularly the instructions regarding handball, which are confusing and inconsistent, exemplified by the two different, bizarre and unacceptable decisions in the FA cup semi-finals last weekend! The handball guidance could be simplified to: - a) Arms away from the body, irrespective of a natural position or not, and irrespective of the distance the ball has travelled = a penalty. i) EXCEPT - When the ball makes contact with a part of the body and then strikes the arm. ii) EXCEPT - When a players falls to the ground and placing their hands in order to break their fall and protect themselves from injury. Understandably, the issue and interpretation of natural position has caused the greatest confusion and controversy. Probably professional footballers are best placed to determine that issue, but there is probably no reliable consensus, even amongst the professionals, so that element needs to be totally abandoned as far as the handball rules are concerned.

VAR is not the problem any more than referring is a problem. The problem is the quality of the officiating and the people who adjudicate the events. If not for VAR we would not see these errors and they will get swept under the carpet, if anything, VAR is evidencing how poor our officials are. How many errors can you guys remember from the World Cup or the Champions League?

Completely agree with the refs egos - why are on-field refs saying 'no no no' with absolute certainty? They should be humble enough to say - 'I don't there's contact' or 'I he gets the ball'. In rugby, refs are so much better! Can you imagine Michael Oliver saying to VAR: 'Can you just check he gets the ball'? I certainly can't...

In the United States, our leagues say that Replay has to prove something beyond a reasonable doubt. So if a goal is scored on the field they need the replay to be so obviously offsides that it will be called offsides. If the offsides looks iffy in replay, they can’t take off a goal because they still have a reasonable doubt. In this instance, Manchester United would have lost their game in the FA Cup the other day

VAR has to go. Almost nobody likes it, It spoils the flow of the game. The match grinds to a halt up to 5 minutes or more. It ruins celebrations. Very often it gets it wrong. And there appears to be some bias in the decisions made sometimes, like in the Forest/Everton game. I think VAR is ruining football.
