As someone who’s spent 1000s of hours watching Mark, Brian (True Geordie) and Laurence, this was a brilliant podcast to hear. I think Laurence chose the right person to sit down and talk about it with. Soz, he's always seemed fake to me and no difference here. It's probably why he got hammered so much as well - people perceived, rightly or wrongly, that he thinks very hard about what he says and does, so had a hard time believing he didn't just calculate that moving quickly on was (in his mind) the best chance of keeping everything from blowing up. Not that I think a throwaway wayward comment deserved a cancellation, it's not as if Brian was ever held up as some role model or paragon of normality. If a Blue Peter presenter can do lines off a turtle and still find work, a bit of Christian forgiveness towards TG wouldn't go amiss

Really good hearing Laurence's perspective. There's no question him leaving has been a huge reason for the decline of the kick off. He's always come across as a well balanced and rational person, who clearly played a significant role both on the show and off camera. He and Brian complimented each other so well, which is why they'll hopefully end up working together again eventually. Clearly also the show has suffered because of the loss of the other three, given their chemistry and entertainment value. That said, while I like the dynamic of Rory, Buvey and Mckola, there's no question they turned their back on Geordie. To create a show that's so similar to the kick off was a turncoat move, given the platform he helped provide for them.
