The irony of Rick Astley, singing the lyrics hang the dj because the music they constantly play says nothing to me about my life. When Morrissey wrote it, he was talking of the likes of Rick and the crap that he was producing, I bet he's never seen an audience react to his songs like this
@fabulousfreddyisready3 жыл бұрын
Actually, he probably has...and a lot of the fans of his music probably hate the Smiths, so there you go... Either way, you have to give him credit, along with the band, he did a great job with a lot of respect for the music.

Look. Moz and Rick may or maybe not been lovers in the 80s. Rumour has it. Hence the continuing reflection

Your comment is invalid, considering Morrissey & Marr wrote Panic in 86 and Rick's first foray into pop didnt happen until 87, it couldn't have been about "the crap he was producing". It was, if the fabled anecdote is true, inspired after hearing BBC radio DJ Steve Wright playing a wham track directly after a news bulletin. While Astley was a 'popstar' in a stable that counted TV crossover artists like Kylie Minogue & Jason Donovan, alongside other bubblegum pop stars , he atleast had a great voice. Incidentally, Marr himself has said The Smiths were a pop band, borne from Morriseys & his own pop influences, their ambition to be 'a great pop band' ( but dont take my word for it, you can read about it in his biography "set the boy free") Morrissey n co never seemed to mind sharing the limelight of totp, smash hits, saturday morning tv, and just about anywhere they could get exposure, with pop stars of the time.
