This was a good guide! I'd add a few things that would help others as well: For "maximum effect" of red ginseng and ganoderma, you're gonna want to consume 10-12 of each per character. There are certain areas that you can camp at that will give good bonuses. For example, Wyvern cave is a place that appears in Mt. Lucian. Once you have a couple core shaping and you've discovered the place, you can go there and enter the map to find ginseng and red ginseng on the ground. You're going to want to take the stacks of red ginseng that are circa 40 units. If a stack is low, don't worry. It will randomize when you leave and return again to try to get it(unless you pick it up! Then it will be gone). Wicked Flux is another one of the gold core "preparation foods". The problem with this one though is that it damages your mental state after eating. For a newer player, you're going to want to just eat 1-2 of these. You can always learn manuals that will raise your mental state back up. Another useful bit of info is that you can take an item called a junk pill(failed alchemy pill), and it can also raise your max qi. You get some divine relic versions of these in alchemist peak when you enter the map and find the furnace rooms. However, eating one will burn your insides and bring your cultivator close to death. Having someone who has learned Panacea can easily solve this(Unless he's the one, you know, dying). These are the early things you can do to maximise your GC efforts! The first GC, as Icon said, doesn't matter too much. It's not a bad idea to just make a quick garbage GC that you use to burn their lifeforce in order to strengthen your next generation.

First, some things to amend. The elements only beget the element directly after them so fire begets earth not wood (wood begets fire, beget = feeds, which is good). Gold core qualities do indeed go from 9 to 1 "but" after reaching quality 1 the rating that your core gains continues to increase. ranking 9 to 1 ends at something like 150k rating if I remember correctly but it can keep increasing to grant better bonuses (I have several 300k rated rank 1 cores which have much greater base stats such as max qi from directly after the core was formed then my basic 150k rank 1 cores). Gaining access to other sects areas has nothing to do with your ability to send people on adventures or camping, it only allows you to enter the maps in those areas without getting attacked (for simply entering). Lastly your first golden cores rank is "EXTREMELY IMPORTANT" anything less the rank 3-1 (rank 1 = great, rank 2 = ok, rank 3 = usable)will greatly restrict your growth as a sect. It is paramount that you get your first golden core enough qi to cast all of the required miracles in order to have a high tiered second generation of golden cores (i.e. weather, derivative calculations, mountain shaping and later remodeling buffs etc.). Second, additions that were missed. Medicines such as bane pills, eternity pills, "PURPLE TIER" junk pills (with the correct text block never more then 1), wicked flux (questionable item! never more then 2). Rushing Primordial Spirit is a rather good idea as it have no special requirements and opens up many paths to grow your sect far faster. Specter Refinement and the hell gate to support its use are integral for future inner disciples forming golden cores. Specter Refinement gives a chance to increase the "tier" not quality of an item by 1 every time it is used up to tier 12 which is the cap for all items (being done in a very ominous room seems to boost the chances). The reason this is important has to do with the fact that in many cases tier affects the properties of an item, example: earth flux upgraded to tier 12 when eaten grants double the base effect, but when looking at an item like wicked flux which would get the same increase, you would also get double the negative effect. This means that increasing the tier of wicked flux is a waste in general but this can very from item to item based on merits (bane pills may also have a negative effect of reducing lifespan by 60 years which is doubled at tier 12, but this can easily be countered by things like life pills, eternity pills or manuals for next to nothing). Lastly the all important hell gate! To put it simply it's a gimmicky trap for all those random sacrifi....... I mean guests. It's a party room that has a sect gate, very ominous room feng shui and is either freezing cold or scorching hot to quickly remove your unwanted guests, which as a side benefit (totally not the focus of the room I swear..... ;) creates the key component for the Specter Refinement miracle (anguish soul gems). As always thanks for all your work and keep it up and yes there is still more then what I just added. Tip: when you get the fox pet switch to it for better bonuses and abilities into the mid game (spirit soil creation). Beware the coming dragon!

So one thing I been wondering, is if you can use specter refinement to upgrade any junk pill to the right level, or does it have to be the one the starts off purple?

@@Lilitha11 I personally have not tried specter refinement to see if it converts a junk pill to the correct type (I do refine my junk pills to tier 12 before using them). There are two type of junk pill one that has the full text block and another type that has a much shorter text block. Generally the purple tier 9 pill is the correct type and the blue tier 6 pill isn't. I have found that some of the junk pills sold by visiting merchants had the complete text block on both types but that might have been a bug. You can also setup a pill failing room for crap alchemists to generate more junk pills.

@@TheHasazin hey, can i ask a question real quick about spectre refinement. I can't seem to refine something past tier 9. Tho i just tried it on one item and that's a sword (im planning to use it to make artifact) but the sword stuck on tier 9 and when i try to use spectre refinement the success chance is insignificant. How much the bad fengshui gonna raise the chance? And this is stupid, but any tips on creating bad feng shui?

@@heartmint7364 So to increase you chances you need a Very Ominous room, which you seem to know at least a little about. Luckly it isn't very hard, Qi cushions next to a wall made of a conflicting element will often get you there easily (the black arrows on the feng shui wheel show which elements conflict) and you can always add some decorations of that same conflicting element if the wall isn't doing it alone (space the cushions at least 2 tiles from each other or just in the corners). Make sure the room is large enough to hold a stockpile so you can keep your items there while refining them and use item stands to force items into the room. Finally have multiple doors because this causes a feng shui leakage for more negative value. A bonus for artifact creation: getting your forges room to Very Auspicious while having the forge as a feed element of the items creator (example: fire feeds earth, so fire cultivator to an earth forge) will not only increase your success chance but will also increase you odd of getting higher tiered artifacts. A bonus bonus, while I won't tell you exactly how, you can increase the refining level beyond 12 but it's rather time consuming and tedious.

@@josephfitzgerald4387 If it's one of your first disciples to reach golden core I'd say don't make him GC until you have discovered at least Ganoderma, Red Ginseng and some Earth Flux (everything extra helps of course). But most importantly I'd rather let somebody else from my Inner's advance into GC and adventure a lot to feed such a good candidate only the best. Other alternative: Search for those items, try to hit at least GC 3 and reincarnate after some time and retry again. Or maybe you can think of something else - there are plenty of options =)

It's really easy to get a tier 1 GC once you have all the advanced laws transcribed for extra Qi boosting skills. You get these by attending random "manifesting mandate" events that pop up on the map, but you need an inner disciple with stats that match the advanced law to at least 100%. So, for example, if you get the manifesting mandate event for the "Jade Purity" law, you'll need to adventure there with an inner disciple with at least 4 per 1 con 1 cha 7 int and 6 lck to unlock it. It's a good idea to look up the spreadsheet with the required stats for the advanced laws and then reference this when recruiting new disciples. If your initial disciples have high stats you can usually use one of them to pick up some of the advanced laws but you might need to recruit one or two "burner" disciples with the right stats for the remaining laws.

Great guide, just to add on : Feng Shui - The 3 range idea mainly stems from furniture. Most basic items have a range of 1~2 but high tier items usually have a feng shui range of 3~5. For example your Ice/Fire Essence Bars have a Feng Shui range of 4 (equal to Qi Gathering range of Spirit Wood). There isn't a tabulated list yet as far as I know, but it can be useful to know to furthur upgrade the room by using range 5 Feng Shui items and experimenting with better Qi Gathering items at closer range but of the wrong element (e.g. Dragon Feces or Samsara Pill with 90 Qi Gathering).

My first attempt at GC got Tier 4, using a copy of your Fire Cultivator room, except made entirely out of spiritwood (walls, floor, roof, displays...), no medicine, and only the Fire Law's Qi boosting skill. Should be able to get a much better result if I remember these tips.

One that doesn't mess with your Sect. If you have a good amount of Outer people doing their job and everything is fine, then you can start searching for Disciples that are good to enter the Inner Circle and made them cultivators

So is spirit wood the only way to boost ki gathering in cultivation rooms early game?? Would love alternatives so my cultivatiors can practice more effectively .(I had bad feng shui in my earth cultivation room because i had the spirit wood to close to the cushion)

Well, it is the easiest material to acquire early on, yes. And honestly, it's not that horrible if you dont net in 5 Stars at Elemental in your room at the beginning of the game. It will be okay if you leave the 9 directly connected squares without spiritwood for pretty much every cultivator and fill the rest up with spirit wood. Surround the directly 9 attached squares with elemental decorations (out of materials your cultivators Law begets, i.e. Fire for Earth) and the rest with spiritwood and you will end up with something like 4+ on Qi and 3-4+ on Elemental which is totally okay to begin with. Later when your sect collects more magical stuff you can carve out those extra % with new items.

Earth cults are going to want fire qi gathering items. Fire essence bars are probably the earliest you get those, but there are higher tier items(like crimson fruit/blazing feather) that grant higher qi gathering. These will need some temperature management though.

Every Yaogai has to face tribulation at some point - after the specific time has passed they must be able to tank a certain amount of damage or turn into a monster. That's grossly simplified what happened to you ^^

Every time your Inner Disciples complete one task of "cultivating" (the task bar below their name on the top side of the screen), they gain 1 point of Inner Cauldron, yielding 1 point of Maximum Qi. Takes forever without proper preparations and is considered a late game strategy

You can increase the stats, but you won't get another chance to increase the rank of the Golden Core. You could rebirth the character and repeat the process (rebirth pill makes the person a normal outer disciple again)

trading with sects works a little differently than trading with merchants. sects wont tell you their prices outright so you have to guess prices. buying access will cost 200 spirit stones.
