What technology has come a long way? I'm not trying to be rude or anything I just haven't been under one in a very long time my dad actually ran his late model at this track a few times, and I'm pretty sure we were using 4 link, a winters quick change, a bert or brinn direct drive I can't remember and I don't remember he we ran dry sump or wet sump for sure from 05 to 08 in ours, I mean I think the last time I've even seen a leaf spring chassis it was like a 94 Rayburn or something along those lines, I'm just curious to what advancements have been made cause I'm actually thinking about going from karts to sportsman late models next season. And it's been so long since I've actually been in one or had one in a garage I don't know I maybe I could be competitive with an older chassis like a 04 masterbilt or 08 grt or something like that in a sportsman class.

@@dirttrackdevil1149 Primarily geometry and engineering have been the biggest advancements. And even aerodynamics now, especially in the upper late model classes.

@@zaq1xsw2 yeah I mean me personally I think the older sail panels looked way better like the ones in this race on the latemodels we used to take alot of time where they slanted straight down from the roof to the deck lid and we used to put a piece of plastic film in the hole in the sail panels but now they're bowed out and it's just a thin strip of metal and our nose didn't have those elephant ears with the groves to direct air flow we didn't have the lower valence under the noses either an the roofs were alot flatter now they're angled downward I do like the like 2000 to 2006 late model look better than the current but I can see how much aerodynamics actually plays a part in performance cause when you really think about it if you go to 411 and watch the sportsman or 602 late models they're running like 02 and 03 chassis and similar set up as these guys but with a 602 crate engine making 300 hp but they're putting down faster lap times than our steelhead did in 08 at 411 and we were running like a 360 sbc making like 450 to 500 hp but body was pretty much like these and the aerodynamics are so much more advanced now I guess I didn't realize how much of a difference it really made until you mentioned it hopefully im not gonna be an in the way guy next season if I get in a sportsman late model I'm sure I'll do fine in the straight but it's the turns I'm worried about I'm used to karts and I run 65 maybe 70 in the straight but karts stay so planted compared to a car and you literally stay hammer down in a kart I barely even brake and there's no counter steer whatsoever you can be bouncing off the Rev limited in kart and put it exactly where you need it and from my recollection late models can get a little squirrelly in the turns lol wish me luck
