Probably why she had them blur her face. But there's no use beating yourself up over something you don't know. The expert shows up and solves the problem in a minute, but how many people would know the 4wd can fail to engage like that when stuck. You don't know what you don't know, meaning there's some things you're so clueless about you don't even know to investigate.

"It's not a National Park . . . ". I LOVE traveling in Utah. It's SO friggin beautiful they've already used up their State's allotment of National Parks, National Monuments, Historical Sites as well as their State counterparts. I've seen Regional and Municipal Parks that are possessed of such stunning beauty and unique landscape that they should be State or National landmarks!

I’m glad you threw in that educational bit! I’ve been told that desert tortoises (who store and internally recycle their urine to stay hydrated) will urinate just as a fear response. So it may be ANY amount of handling or even proximity that could trigger it and kill them. Probably much less of a big deal after all that rain but my inclination would be to spot them from afar and enjoy from a distance just to eliminate any possibility of accidentally spooking one into losing all that stored water. Super cool they were out, though. I’ve never spotted one in the wild in the Nevada so this was a pretty solid series of finds. Looks like Utah is the spot!
@kenc2257

I don't think that voiding their bladder will immediately kill them. The road they were on had several puddles--even if the desert tortoise was moved out of the road (for safety), it could probably find enough water to rehydrate, if needed.

It is important to not only learn how to engage the 4-wheel drive and low range or lockers, but use them every month or so to lube and loosen them up. (Make sure you are on gravel or a loose surface, not on pavement). Otherwise they get bound up and may not work when you do need them.

I've got a story for this one! So my buddy was driving us out camping in his Expedition and put the truck in 4L (wasn't really necessary, but besides the point). When we drove out in the morning, he found he wasn't able to get back into 2H once we hit the graded road. He called his dad (truck's owner) who said that transfer case had gone bad before and must've died again, and that we'd have to limp the truck home. After 20 minutes of driving 45 on the highway, I finally pulled out the owner's manual and read the section on drive selection. "Did you try putting it in neutral when switching?" "No" Sometimes the solution makes you feel silly, and sometimes we all need a reminder to RTFM.

A lot of people don't know how to turn off traction control on the new ones either. If you just press the button it just turns on the ECS. You have to press and hold the button until it blinks at you. Takes like 8 seconds
@volvo09
@volvo09 Жыл бұрын
@@patrickjones8255 traction control is the worst! I was approaching my old job one day and a co worker was stuck in the street (there was a few inches of snow) and said he is waiting on a tow because his transmission died. I had a feeling it was traction control (the car had old all season tires) and showed him how to turn it off and the car rocked out. Traction control sucks, and it's annoying that it isn't simple to turn off in every car.

3:54 Matt's description of how the transfer case gears are unable to engage is great. People who have driven manual transmission vehicles with heavy duty transmissions like that of the T-19 in my F-250 know how difficult it is to get into reverse unless the vehicle is moved slightly in a forward gear. My '03 Rubicon air lockers sometimes need the Jeep moving slightly to get the lockers to engage. Too bad there is not a learning video where Matt describes how to engage and disengage 4x4 with manual transmissions of various kinds and what to do if something goes wrong. Another issue would be lockers and when to use them and how to use them without damage to axle U-joints. In this case the person with the Tacoma had too little experience with their vehicle. I did a Jeepers Jamboree on the Rubicon trail and learned a lot from the carnage generated by inexperienced drivers.

wrong, tortoises are omnivores/detritivores, they’re extremely opportunistic eaters but protein and calcium are an extremely important part of their diet. in captivity with some species you have to supplement protein with things like mice, worms, roaches, or products like Mazuri pellets. galapagos tortoises for example produce more non-viable eggs and iirc less eggs in general when they are lacking protein in their diet

Seems like she didn’t know she wasn’t in 4. Always amazes me how people will drive out alone in the middle of nowhere with such a limited understanding of their vehicle and its capabilities.

Not really, that wasn't a very 4WD location, we all have to start somewhere, might not have been her car.

I’ve not had that issue on my 4x4 Tundra but I learned something today and hope I remember it if that ever happens to me.

Poor Peanut. During the weather report and intro of all the players, Peanut is steady moving around in camera view to get his shot and intro, but no, completely over looked.

I like graffiti as an art form but it’s a shame the had to spray paint the rocks and stuff at that old mill, leave history alone there’s plenty of other crap to tag. 😑 🤷‍♂️

I agree with the other comments that your ability to handle the level of silliness of people and do it genuinely with no hint of acting or fakery is why you are such a good example for men to emulate...

I love Matt says "let me show you something on this", and instead of listening the customer comes over and just starts blabbing about how they got stuck instead of listening lol.

I feel for that lady with the Toyota, that would be frustrating to find out you just didn’t have it in four wheel drive.

It's good to know not to pick up the desert tortoise because of the harm you can cause them!You learn something new every day! I would have tried to pick them up to get them out of harms way! I always try and do what's right, but in reality, it could be wrong! So thank you for the lesson learned! Til next time, take care, and we'll see you on the next...
